Pixel Monk Kickstarter

Post by The_Mask »

I can't believe I am drawing attention to something made in California, but here it is:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tr ... y_category

Pray for the World, and Feed the Ducks
You play as an Orthodox Christian monastic who has gone to their favorite lakeside to pray and feed the ducks. With prayer **** in hand and pocket full of peas (bread is bad for their digestion), humbly quiet your heart while caring for the least of God's creatures.

Two Buttons, Big Feels
Pixel Monk is a two-button game: Pray for the World, and Feed the Ducks. That's it! But don't let that fool you: the game really cuts to your heart.

Our goal with Pixel Monk is to create a series of simple games that inspire peace and quietness of heart. It's a wholesome experience we're sure you will keep coming back to when the weight of the world is on your shoulders.

The Pixel Monk Genre: Interactive Ambience
Good games are ultimately about the experience you have while playing them. This first game in the Pixel Monk series establishes its own unique genre of what we're calling Interactive Ambience. Its powerful experience comes mainly from its sounds and the joy you have interacting them.

Below are the sounds and music available for the current iteration of the game, all of which you can toggle as you please:

Ambient Sound Effects:

Ducks
Flowing Water
Gentle Wind
Rain

Music:

Sonata #3 in Bm "Largo", Frédéric Chopin (abridged)
Gymnopédie #1, Eric Satie
Pavane pour une Infante Defunté, Maurice Ravel
Clair de Lune, Claude Debussy
Winter "Largo", Antonio Vivaldi

Actually, There's More
Pixel Monk has a number of ancillary features that are not made obvious from its simple, two-button interface. Our monastic friend can glow with inner peace, contemplate words of the Holy Scriptures and Holy Fathers, and inspire creation around them to praise God. But we'll leave these for you to discover!

Language Support
We are also pleased to announce that Pixel Monk will be available in English, Greek, Romanian, and Russian.

Our Goals for Pixel Monk
Development for Pixel Monk is essentially finished, but releasing on certain platforms does require some upfront and/or annual fees that you can help with. Even the small amount of funding from this campaign is a great help to indie studios like Trisagion Games.

Speaking of the future: we've mentioned several times that this game is the first in a series! So what's coming next?

Pixel Monk: Seasons
The next in the series will be titled Pixel Monk: Seasons, which features a much larger experience spanning four locations and four seasons, each with their own array of ambience and interactions to enjoy. It's all still pending, but some examples may include:

An evergreen forest with friendly bears
A springtime monastery orchard and wildflowers
An autumn forest with pilgrims around campfire
A monastic cabin cell in winter with tea and a snowstorm
Stretch Goals
There are a few features we would like to add to the base game of Pixel Monk, but we also see a great potential for this campaign to outright finance Pixel Monk: Seasons as well. Here are our goals for this campaign:

🎉 FUNDED! $500 - Add a day/night cycle to Pixel Monk with cricket and frog sounds. Also, fireflies!
🎉 FUNDED! $600 - Add seasonal background items, such as icons, Pascha eggs, that appear in real time. (E.g. Pascha eggs only appear in game during Pascha / Bright Week).
🎉 FUNDED! $800 - Begin production of Pixel Monk: Seasons! At this tier, all backers will be given free beta access to Seasons, regardless of your pledge amount.
🎉 FUNDED! $1500 - Fully fund Pixel Monk: Seasons! This will negate the need for a future Kickstarter. At this tier, everyone who's part of this campaign will receive a free download key for Pixel Monk: Seasons on the platform of their choice.
Extra Pixel Monk Goals:
🎉 FUNDED! $1600 - Music Expansion - Add 5 - 10 new music tracks to the base game
$1700 - Regional Duck - The in-game Ruddy Duck is (mainly) North American. This tier will change Ruddy Duck to a duck native to your game's language setting (English, Greek, Romanian, Russian).
$1800 - Secret Ducklings - For those players who think two ducklings are simply not enough, we'll add a secret setting in the game to duplicate ducklings.
$2000 - Secret Songs - We'll add 1 to 3 secret songs into the game. But how do you play them? Maybe try asking the ducks...

About Trisagion Games
Trisagion Games is an Orthodox Christian indie game development studio, owned and operated by me, Darrell (Marius) Conrad.

Our team size varies per project, with other contributing members as needs arise. We have recently partnered with Orthodox Design Company to bring your Rocko's Factory Repair, which successfully funded on Kickstarter thanks to people like you.

Prior to that, we released the game St. George to the Rescue! in partnership with Ancient Faith Kids. In more long-term development, we are also currently working on a heartwarming Welsh fairy tale titled Canis Major.

Our Past and Current Projects
Canis Major - A Welsh Fairy Tale about a Sheepdog in Heaven

St. George to the Rescue! - A Saintly Action Arcade Shooter

Rocko's Factory Repair - A Game based on the YouTube Series, Rocko's Music Factory

Trying to create a "Christian" game (applies to most other mediums as well) fundamentally misses the mark, because the time people would spend coonsoming that media, regardless of how sincere or well made it is, is time they wouldn't spend praying or going to church.

Like I get it, you go on the internet you see the **** and the ******** and the powers that be and the general state of the world and you realize "Goddamn, ****'s absolutely ******", and if that ain't the reason then maybe you get crippled by nihilism so you decide to give the world the middle finger and try to go back down a more traditional path. Problem is you can't go down that path with a modern framework like vidya. It just ends up being a modernist half-measure.

All that being said, I guess the half measure is still far better than what the AAA devkikes are up to, but that's quite possibly the lowest bar in the history of mankind.

It's just $3, and the project is already fully funded, with about 24h to go (for most people at the time they see this post).

I was just putting it out there, that this game exists as an option. Especially if you're Christian. Even more if you're Orthodox.

Even more if you're Orthodox.
That's exactly my point, if I want Orthodoxy I'll go to church. If I want to play a game I'll play a game. But mixing the two just doesn't work, even as a theme or source of inspiration or whatever the ****.

I ain't got no problems if other people wanna play it, I'm just saying that it's fundamentally a flawed concept.

From their e-mail on Kickstarter, if anyone wants to know when the game's gonna come out:
Hello everyone!

We've been working very hard to implement all of the stretch goals for Pixel Monk and release in time for Christmas, but that may not be the case for all platforms. Steam for example, has us hard-capped at a December 27th release date, and we may encounter similar roadblocks from the other platforms while the app is in review.

Last week was a rough one for development: between a serious family medical emergency and losing our Greek translator (thankfully both resolved), we lost almost a week's worth of time. But since then we have added Bulgarian to the game and a few other ancillary features we think you will be happy with!

All that to say, we are on target to finish development by the end of the week, whether or not the various platforms finish app review in time for Christmas. If you haven't already, feel free to jump on our Discord server for daily updates. Thank you for your continued support of Pixel Monk and Trisagion Games!

Sincerely,

Darrell
