There was significantly more creativity & originality in the 90s & early 00s than during any part of the "indie boom" of the past 10+ years or wherever you want to place it at.

The number of games with original ideas & mechanics was much higher despite there being maybe 1% as many games released overall.
And thinking on it, that's not even counting games with original ideas & mechanics that became mainstream.

A significant amount of them seem to be concerned with "making games". Which is actually not good!
That might seem like a silly claim, but consider that they don't care about the contents of the game itself but the fact that it is a game. These games are trash games, gamejam garbage often padded out to sell on Steam. See also: viewtopic.php?t=4426-i-hate-small-games

These games are the video game equivalent of degenerate "short-form content": tiktok/youtube shorts, etc., Product to be consumed then move onto next nearly identical product without thinking too hard.

To me it seems like they are spinning things around and inserting fabricated politics where there never was any.

I think RE9 was the start of the end of the franchise. It's all downhill from here with RE.
