The great calamity wiped Arrakis from most humans. The winds were so strong, and so sudden, they ripped humans from all, but the deepest caves. Earthquakes shattered Fremen catchbasins, destroying centuries of water conservation, throwing all this water back into atmosphere, birthing new storms, that striked even harder... Few remained, hidden inside fortified vaults or deepest ravines.
And when winds finally subsided, they got out of their holes and smelled the ashes.

Twenty years had passed.
BG Chapterhouse is still small, though farmers had restored dew plantations in few locations (they also rhyme as they twist grass into twine).
But the main development happens inside people's heads, not in their bodies.
BG restored the church of Shai-Hulud, and Chapterhouse became its holy city. The faith is still in its infancy. The prophet of the maker came, but he didn't restore the Shrine of the Worm, because people were too busy with survival. Instead he founded a new monastic school, that brought in new resources from far and wide.
BG had met Harkonnens and Ix, but relations are strained and trade is lacking.
From about the year 10220 and onwards raiders crashed on Chapterhouse like gushes of wind, attracted by stories of riches and restored civilization. Next 20 years went under constant siege, with raiders pillaging rural settlements, killing many defenders, stealing water and hope.
Wind brought the rumours of remnants of House Ecaz falling under one of these waves into utter barbarism.
Where did they come from? Some were the remnants of the larger factions, driven mad by hunger and loss. But many came from southern hemisphere, from beyond the great desert, where Fremen tribes lost all hope in future when they lost their catchbasins. Their hearts hardened, their sight dimmed, and brother wars swept across once vibrant confederation.

50 turns after Calamity the sisterhood is still scraping. Troops got proper infrastructure and many became battle-hardened after decades of fighting. They manage to keep barbarians at bay, but at a price of constant poverty, constant losses, constant vigilance.
Some rudimentary mining and few ornithopters were restored, yet there're not enough of them to speak of any real production.

All this fighting brought back the legends once told near the Stone of Prophecy, of the voice from the outer world, the one who would bring jihad.
First real mine was built and few metal we have allowed us to begin restoring the old husks into real spice harvesters.

We finally got whopping four spice harvesting provinces and restored some contacts with smugglers. We bring them spice, they bring us interplanetary goods they get who knows where. All seduction and information gathering attempts so far were in vain.
Water caches and proper industry are being restored. Reverend mothers foster fanaticism in their subjects, subtly, slowly, but surely, one harsher story at a time.
We met Fremen, the ones that still remember Liet. They're populous and strong but are pretty insular, interested in old BG stories and their own short lives rather than grand aspirations of old.

Harkonnens demanded a tribute from us! Spiked paintbush (resource that gives health to the city = the city needs 1 less food). We have 2 - these are the flowers peasants grow near the capitol, so it's not a loss... I agree to ensure peace, I'm not ready for war yet. But his aggression is noted.

Mahdi has returned! In industrial center of Asmara Rock workers and youngsters are uniting under the banners of jihad again! Dune Messiah and great burseg settled in Asmara and inspire people for great and dreadful deeds.
Theocracy was reinstated with BG sisters cementing their roles as priests and rulers of many affairs. A large monastery complex arose in the capitol, that brought in education and culture and all the amenities necessary for expanded role of the sisterhood. Some people grumble at the fact that sayyadinas become to overcome chiefs in power. But they're kept in check by the more urgent, visible and undeniable demands of Mahdi. He demands one, and only one, thing: Make Arrakis Great Again!

A hundred years since Calamity. Temples of the Mahdi rose in both of our capitols - priests bring solace to the Chapterhouse (together with old Shai-hulud priesthood, now on fringes, but still somewhat influential)... But to Asmara they bring hope and aspiration, and zealots congregate into crowds crying for war.
A third city was founded, and lookouts around it were established. Sisters hoped to expand their spice extraction, but the area is so infested with worms, that no work is realistic.
