Play the game the way it was intended to look
This game or all games?
All games. Learn to separate hardware limitations from intended design choices. The former can be fixed -- higher resolution rendering on emulators for 3d content tends to look great for example -- the latter cannot.

I rarely use any graphics mods that change the style anymore.

I'm becoming something of a movie snob but for games I guess, but developers intended their games to look a certain way and that's a part of the intended experience.

Do you have any mod recommendations? @ThulsaDoomer
I am not he, but I may have a few.
The mod author behind AFFresh made two more mods that you might like:
Wilhelm of the Aedra
AFFiliates-Guild of Mages
The former adds a questline following a character named Wilhelm Bear-Star, the latter adds some more GoM quests. Simple mods that don't add much bloat.
Devilish Thu'um
Adds basic Thu'um to Morrowind, sadly only for NPCs at the moment. One of the mod developers might work on it but it is not a priority.
N'Garde
Combat overhaul, inspired by later entries. Main feature is parrying but it's fairly mechanically deep. Similar to Chim 2090, which it states it is incompatible with. Someone I know (from who I found these mods from) recommends using Real Weapon Range as well as the patch for OAAB and Tamriel Data.

Lastly not a mod but a tool, TES3ZER0EDIT, because simply adding mods is half the work.
Now that I think about it, I just want to download a full modlist maybe using umo that has graphical upgrades, Tamriel Rebuilt and the other expansion mods, and bug fixes. I haven't the energy to setup a full modlist right now. I'll check out the umo modlists and see if they have these
That's pretty much all you really need honestly. If like me you don't care much for graphics you can save quite a bit of space for extra content mods.
Not sure why you would, 614 is beyond overkill and it would be more efficient to build from scratch.

it's literally soul vs souless. not even mentioning the -500 fps you get from jamming all those texture overhauls
Like Oblivion Remastered except without the Unreal Engine vibe coded **** ********.

I wonder how the Nords react to your race in Skyrim: Home of the Nords. I'm planning on playing a Dunmer

I played as a Nord and didn't notice much racial reactivity beyond the standard vanilla bonuses and interactions. The Reachmen may be more hostile but I can't say if it's for the Nords only.

******* OpenMW doesn't work on Intel HD integrated PIECE OF ******* **** ****** *** LAPTOPS ANYMORE so naturally while **** is finally getting good because of the (recently added?) Lua coding ****** crap, I can't participate. You shouldn't need a ******* god machine just to play ******* Morrowind. I'm so sick of this gay, ******-******-****** psychological ****-fest known as modern gaming. I don't want to spend a ******* grand just to play some **** I've been playing since I was a teenager.

And before any of you fuckers say anything, MGE/regular-*** single-core/whatever the **** Morrowind is doable, yes, but it's obvious what direction Morrowind modding is going in. YOU GUESSED IT. A ****** direction. Which means OpenMW is going to be the ******* drag queen par excellence from now on.

really? I thought openMw could run on phones and microwaves.

u say "anymore", can't u just roll back to an older version of openMw? the new lua mods are mostly just flavor of the month ******** anyway

Does the game have decent Mage combat (without mods)? I played the whole series and hated them all for mage combat but I remember Morrowind being the best because I at least needed to craft some uber spells. Although I also remember them being overpowered like paralize for 10+ seconds.

i guess but I'm starting to think lua was a mistake. isn't this the big morrowind mod month? and all we've gotten is a bunch of openMW lua spam by script kiddies who vibe code some dumb ****. no actual content, no quests, no dungeons, just scripts that track how many times your PC farted and scripts that add ai voices to the game or whatever.

not to mention that all these lua mods are compatibility minefields since they just force themselves on to everything in the game. they also probably just break every time openMW updates

:disgust:

also idk if vanilla engine has gotten a single thing all month, that thing's dead af lmao

i'm always about upgrading the vanilla art and avoiding changing the look too much. upgraded lighting is key, but that necessitates new textures.

That Foxunder guy added a Daggerfall-esque disappearing daedric artifacts to his broken artifacts mod when I asked if it was possible. He's cool, generally made mods that do things I've wanted in Morrowind, or that openMW lacked. The N'Garde modder made a version of his mod that simply adds dodging animations to NPCs, when you miss a hit roll. I liked vanilla combat, just thought it could do with better feedback and animations, or a Glancing Blows and Crits type of overhaul. There's nothing wrong with Morrowind's modding scene, from where I'm standing, except modlists from the openMW modlist site are annoying to customize. I'm looking forward to going home in July so I can play the game proper.

Just installed this earlier this morning. I tried N'Garde but hated how unarmed npcs in just robes could parry with their arms. Loved the dodge animations though

I ended up downloading the Path of the Incarnate wabbajack modlist and then deleting probably 85% or more of the mods and adding what I wanted on top. It sets you up with a Mod Organizer 2 instance which makes things a lot easier to manage

The "Audiobooks of Morrowind" mods are excellent. It's nice to open a book, close it, and then run around to your next location listening to the book.

Just get a mod that stops natural xp gain. Then you level up only via training, and think of gold as xp. It's a very elegant way of handling it since you get gold for all sorts of activities.
