Also, I don't know who we have to thank for the badge this month but whoever he is - you did a kick *** job.

I still have a few chapters to go, but I can say that I've appreciated jumping back into an older Source engine game. It's been a nice combination of nostalgia and a reminder of how jank it was/dated it is.
I was able to beat this a few mins ago, during lunch. Had to resort to the phone captures for the ending cutscene given the video skipped when you so much as breathed.
As far as my spoilery/relevant choices go, I purged Xan, saved Leanna, and put the Skull back on the altar. Which, looking into it, is one of 4 endings. I saw someone refer to this one as the "simp" ending. Ha.
I thought magic did pretty well. I never really felt like the game was actively punishing me too much for not being mDPS. Like most have brought up, I wish the exploration and secret finding would be a bit more... even with its loot. Finding nicer pieces just out in the open felt like a trap.
And while I, admittedly, did get confused somewhat briefly on Chapter 8, I did appreciate the straightforwardness of the map design (thanks, Source engine). It was a nice change of pace from the open world games I've been trying to get into lately.
My non-spoiler thoughts mimic what I said in the post above. It was a nice nostalgia trip to jump back into the Source engine. I played a ton of HL2 and its mods 25+ years ago. So, I'm glad this was nominated and I was able to focus enough to get it done. Granted, this is prob one of the shorter games I've seen in my brief time here.
As this is my first completion, I'll forgo any nomination and just be happy that I'm now just a regular loser and no longer a badgeless loser.

@Rienen you should nominate something. Even if it doesn't win, it is a way to share a game you like with people who might really enjoy it.
Didn't we come up with a specific name for the badgeless losers at some point?

Seems like we haven't had Gothic 2 yet. I nominate it.
Unless I'm not aware of something, Parasite Eve is a Playstation 1 game. Is that allowed now? Great game, btw, but if we open the gate for consoles and emulators it's gonna be G ******* G for cRPG consistency.

"cRPG" just means RPG that is played on a computer rather than tabletopEyestabber wrote: ↑ June 17th, 2026, 19:53Unless I'm not aware of something, Parasite Eve is a Playstation 1 game. There must be a BioWare game we haven't played yet.
Jade Empire
I was going to nominate Nox, but since it is already nominated, I'd like to nominate Terranigma if it's not out of scope. I consider it to be an underrated gem, but it's not a pure RPG and it's an SNES game from 1996. FWIW, I think it feels ahead of its time and yet simultaneously nostalgic.
If that's inappropriate for JAG, I'll nominate Jade Empire instead. I've never beaten it and I've been meaning to give it a fair shot again.

Console games tend to get fewer votes but they have been nominated before.

I demand we put the nominator's name next to the game so it can win based on appeal to admin

Terranigma was released too early. The cutoff is Fallout's release in 1997. I'll put you down for Jade Empire.enisey wrote: ↑ June 17th, 2026, 20:12I was going to nominate Nox, but since it is already nominated, I'd like to nominate Terranigma if it's not out of scope. I nominate Vampire the Masquerade Redemption.

Hm, then I'll have to think about it.

I guess put me down for "The Temple of Elemental Evil". Just to be different. Wish there were some modern versions of AD&D style games that aren't Icewind Dale or Baldur's Gate. Like "Eye of the Beholder" "Ruins of Myth Drannor" but those epic search the ruins style game aren't many peoples cup of tea, but I will try **** it.Tangerine wrote: ↑ June 17th, 2026, 18:45Current nominations:

► For Stack of Turtles
I was very tempted to nominate (or would be nominating) Nox. Last time I played ages ago it wasn't quite as good as I remembered, but it's still a decent game and actually has great multiplayer.
Nox's magic system is very interesting. It's a combination verbal/somatic system, each magic word is also a gesture and the more complex spells have more words/hand signs. The casting is automatic. You push the spell button and start casting, but if you get hit you get disrupted. There's also magical items that can cast spells as well. Nox also had a fog of war system that was unique at the time, but you can something very similar in Project Zomboid.
One of my favorite deathmatch memories comes from playing magician. I came running around the corner just as another magician did and we both started casting Force of Nature. While you're casting you have to sit still and the spell takes awhile to charge. So even after the spell is cast there's two magicians sitting there, waiting while these green spheres of death form in front of them, each one hoping that theirs will be the first to fly. Longest thirty seconds in a deathmatch ever, but I beat him to it, barely.
For having so little to work with and little expectations, Westwood did a fantastic job.

Anthem
Is there a private server or something?
I heard one guy had started one and was trying to get the full game back online but I don't know if anything ever came of it. I was just making a joke though as I don't anyone who even played Anthem.J1M wrote: ↑ June 18th, 2026, 01:03Is there a private server or something?
I played a beta test or free weekend of some kind. The world and town sucked. Walk speed there was very slow. The equipment was a lot of tiny upgrades. The flying was good. The gunplay was average. The environments looked nice.Kolgrim wrote: ↑ June 18th, 2026, 01:21I heard one guy had started one and was trying to get the full game back online but I don't know if anything ever came of it. A crappier version of Warframe.
