if I want to learn about a game series I'll never play then I watch a yewtoob video essay on it, but I'm not watching a gay streamer play a game

What were you doing on Twitch anyway? Looking for a specific game to see how it looks and plays? That's most of what I use it for
Idle curiosity, mostly.
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

While there's nothing like playing the game yourself, I find raw gameplay to always be a more accurate preview of how the game really is rather than opinionated essays. And while there are silent playthroughs on YT, I like being able to ask questions about the game and get answers on the spot.

I have, and still do occasionally. I think it's an extension of my enjoying watching others playing arcade games when I was a child. I loved arcades but rarely had enough quarters for more than half an hour or so of playing, so I'd just watch others instead when I ran out. That's what Twitch is for me.

That said, I only watch one game (Teamfight Tactics), and only two streamers. The scene in general I find disgusting and annoying. Every other streamer I've watched is a ********, whiny, nakedly status-seeking *****.

It's probably not a wise or healthy use of my time.

I like watching YT vids of a playthrough of a niche game. Because voice quality of the streamer is so good, he could've read a phone book and still be pleasant to listen to. The game is also word-heavy.

Also, I watch vids of the games I'm kinda interested in, but not enough to actually play. Because I can skip the boring parts (and most games nowadays have plenty), while getting the interesting ones.
I've watched complete walkthroughs of DS1-3, because I'm totally not interested in gameplay, but I was interested in the plot, level design and style.
I also read or watched through many games in LParchive.

The PS2 Port No One Used is Incredible
The PlayStation 2's Armored Core games and a few others supported i-Link as a method for creating a network connection between consoles.
► These games:
Apparently there were even games that allowed for several systems to be linked. You needed a firewire hub when connecting more than two systems though.

Vexingly the later smaller versions of the PS2 didn't include the i-Link port and, as of the last time I checked, emulation support isn't yet available for the i-Link. So the only way to experience this multiplayer is on old and very specific hardware.

Still kind of neat that it exists at all though. Image

Happened to have a PS2 slim next to me and indeed it does not have that. Interesting that they'd cut a feature actually used by games

I know what you probably meant but I chose to take it as "Imagining watching video of someone else playing a game is too much work. I'd rather just watch video of someone else imagining watching video of someone else playing a game."

item description text as a way to tell a story is stupid

where is the info even coming from? does every item just have a piece of paper stapled to it?

They're not telling the story to your character but to you, the player. If your character suddenly acts on the info gained from the item descriptions, then it's broken.
That said, item descriptions are nice to have. I've read every single item description in my recent Dragon Age Origins playthrough and the lack of those item descriptions in Dragon Age 2 makes it that much more generic and soulless.
Where are the descriptions coming from??
King's Field has an in-universe explanation for why item/npc descriptions exist

It would be cool if item descriptions were based on lore skill.

There has never been a first person game with good melee combat.

Mount & Blade with its directional weapon swings and blocking, with it being intuitive and easy to play and not confusing or frustrating like KCD with its five directions, esoteric and difficult to execute combo inputs, skill tree and stat requirements, etc.

Actually it's 5 directions plus 2 stab directions (head and body)

I liked the melee combat system in War of the Roses (RIP) when I played back in the day.

My disdain for first-person melee combat is a combination of inconsistent depth perception/hit detection and the complete lack of skill I have for feinting and chambering.

Shame ACE boffed the second ZC, though I wish they'd try again. I think they tried to give people what they wanted, which was the chance to explore more of the world, but they didn't quite know how. The setting is worthy of an RPG if they just had some people who knew how to make one.
