i haven't played 1-3 either. It works out, tho, because 4 is retro-active fan-fiction basically. The whole game is about Drake's relationship with his older brother, a character who they made up for the 4th game, so it ends up being a fine entry point anyway as they introduce several portions where they show their "back story" of them growing up together (never introduced in the previous games because the brother character did not exist yet).wndrbr wrote: ↑ June 1st, 2026, 04:59@aweigh I didn't want to play it because it's the fourth installment in a series. I've actually come to prefer a lot of games with gamepad. My only issue with game pad is camera control, I wonder if steamcontroller with the little digital pad is better for itwndrbr wrote: ↑ June 1st, 2026, 05:06Yeah I tried and it worked alright, BUT I can't play with a gamepad. Funny how Sony cancelled TLOU live service game after spending five years worth of money on it. It'd probably be way more successful than all of the other multiplayer games Sony currently have in their pipeline by virtue of having grounded aesthetics and a violent postapoc setting. Something like this would've had easier time finding audience than another garish Concord-like with characters looking like bisexual clowns.

I also jumped back in somewhat recently, but without subbing. TOR is one of those annual games that I'll jump into for a week or two, get my fill, and then bounce. Despite having finished all class stories, I do get enjoyment out of replaying the 1st acts of most of them. It's after the A1 resolution, though, when class stories pivot to their next arc, that I tend to lose interest and bail.
I've also never played any post-60 content. Although I do have multiple level 70 boosts. Prob should give that a try one day.
Class stories range from great to OK(I did all of them), the expansions likewise. Some people seem to not like the KOTET/KOTFE expansions but I thought they were (mostly) excellent.
If it was an offline game with optional multiplayer it would easily be considered one of Bioware's best games, one of the best Star Wars games, a proper KOTOR game, a great RPG in its own right, etc.,
I miss running end game content

I recently got back into Ace Combat 5. Thankfully I still have my save card files, and totally legit games.

The game is still phenomenal, one of the most enjoyable FPSs of all time, and while I prefer the PS version, the Kex port is definitely worth playing.
Went back to Doom after that. Replayed No Rest For The Living, probably the best official release for Doom and Doom 2, not a single low-point in the entire set, and Sigil, which is a bit ******** on UV, but otherwise great as well. Currently slogging through Plutonia and looking forward to finally trying Sigil 2 for a change of pace.
Instead of Sigil 2 I replayed Doom 3, and I must say it didn't age well. id really went downhill after Quake.
Currently playing Pragmata, and while the story is kinda ****, I really enjoy the gameplay, and the hacking, while gimmicky at first, is really satisfying once you get the hang of it. Diana, the little girl, is quite adorable and adds to the enjoyment when/if you're in the right state of mind, if you're not, she's ultra annoying. :> First playthrough is a bit on the easy side, since the hard difficulty is locked until you complete standard.
Recommended for gameplayfags looking for something new.

I am playing Monster Hunt Wilds again.

Let me know how the title update monsters are, I played 50 hours at launch but haven't fired it up since I finished my gear (outside of minmaxing autism). I'm really looking forward to the expansion, but I probably won't get back to the game until it's much closer to release, especially with Endless Ragnarok coming so soon

Still playing Xenoblade X...
On and off really. It's kind of overstayed its welcome if I'm being honest.
There was a critical point in the story there where foids were leading battalions and squadrons and ****, and I just thought: "this a Blizzard game?" Seems every engineer developing the high-tech skells in the main city hub is a foid too. And they all insult the men constantly. I did not notice this any of this when I started playing.
Worst offender is the insufferable 'heroine', Elma. Despite all these hostile xenos races wanting the human race extinct, she continues to try and make peace over and over despite the xenos constantly killing humans. It's actually disgusting. She literally let this psycho alien ***** go free after it murdered a bunch of her comrades. Before letting it go, she says something along the lines of "we can all learn to coexist together in peace". Now, this is all sounding VERY familiar i.e. she's like a woke liberal foid wanting her precious diversity while never minding the cost of her own people's lives to get it.
Which got me thinking about the other games in the series... They all promoted diversity of races and species living together in the same space in peace and harmony... The themes of these games are all about coexistence and understanding. They make it appear as though different races can set aside their differences and work together for the greater good in an imaginary multi-racial utopia... It's funny how you don't notice any of this **** unless you've woken up.
Yeah, I'm done with this franchise. I'll finish this one, but Monolith Soft can get ****** going forward.
I'll still always have fond memories of Xenoblade 2 though.

This suicidal pacifism was in the first Xenoblade too with an identical setup. The first half of the game is about Shulk hunting a mass murdering monster, and then halfway through he finds out it is piloted by a human and suddenly 180s and is trying to save him instead of killing him (and even blocks Dunban's strike), even though Metal Face still willingly killed all of those people for fun. It is also a broader issue with Japanese pop culture entertainment, where the predominant narrative about war in anime/JRPGs/VNs/etc is that "oh no, if only we could just stop having bad feelings and all get along!" and usually does not want to admit that there can be just reasons for war (perhaps because it would remind people of WW2).Bhaalspawn Jr wrote: ↑ June 12th, 2026, 01:41She literally let this psycho alien ***** go free after it murdered a bunch of her comrades. As for the different species getting together like furballs and robot people, I would not read too much into it as a deliberate allegory for the multiracial globalism as pushed in Western media (though that is a thing in some Japanese works, see the latest Trails games).

It's a VIDEOgame. You go on an adventure and meeting many different characters with whacky designs, save them, and then all these people you met across the journey come back at the end and help you defeat the bad guy and you have saved everyone at the end and feel good. Suikoden did it with the dog people, the elves, the duck people, the beaver people, etc. Dragon Quest does it. Final Fantasy does it. Etc. No one was standing over Murayama's back when he was making Suikoden and so on. Chinese games have it where all of the different whacky factions you meet come help out at the end and you save them all, and those games have the grip of the CCP and their anti-degenerate policies on them. It's just a genre convention that is ingrained and is satisfying. This long predates Blackrock buying shares in companies like Nihon Falcom and incentivizing DEI mandates.Bhaalspawn Jr wrote: ↑ June 12th, 2026, 02:01It's def a WWII thing.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ June 12th, 2026, 01:51This suicidal pacifism was in the first Xenoblade too with an identical setup. lmk if you want any multiplayer buds, i've stopped playing since they finished adding title updates and event quests and whatnot, but am always down to help a newblood, did the same with @Mordred and played a bit with @Finarfin and @mercerxiv
also
The title update monsters, while not numerous, definitely added some much needed difficulty to the game, and are good fun imo. Lagiacrus and Seregios are pretty tough(and lightning croc boy is of course kino for a Tri enjoyer like myself), and Gogmazios, while gimmicky and not too difficult, is a flashy and enjoyable fight. They did the Final Fantasy crossover where you fight the big robot Omega Planetes, which is the equivalent to the Behemoth fight in World if you did that. Hardest fight in the game; requires proper teamwork and coordination, but is satisfying to beat. Also the arc-tempered versions of the Apex monsters are a good challenge, and Arkveld in particular is a very different and difficult fight, and is a solid 'final challenge send-off' to the game (kinda like Arch Tempered Nergigante in World)methoxetamine wrote: ↑ June 12th, 2026, 00:11
