near universal condemnation = "mixed"

The first level of skill makes it barely tolerable, not easy.
The second "master" level makes it only annoying AF to deal with 6 and 7 plate locks.
I have found ONE "easy" lock. 4 plates, few connections.
(The chest Cor Kalom keeps his holy recipe in, which should be the most heavily locked up thing he has. But, of course, the player needs to possibly access it for a quest, so they made it the easiest lock in the game.)

My son told me he wanted to play Gothic as well (he's 11) but wants to play the OG because it looks cooler, especially the Main character looks and sounds weird.

He is a good boy.

EDIT: just to say it again, the colony is very recognizable, they did a good job translating the environments for sure.

Gothic remake has gotten three patches for consoles.
None for PC as yet... :broken:

I'm going to have to agree that the lock picking minigame sucks donkey balls. Somehow even worse than the one in Kingdom Come. I might install a mod to skip it, but that seems like too much of a cheat
kcd's lockpicking is insanely easy
the one in this remake is a complete ball buster and not worth the time to learn how to do considering how little loot you get from individual chests

Your son has more common sense and taste at 11, than a team of grown *** devs.

Trailer looked like there was dodge rolling but there doesn't seem to be now that I'm playing the game. I like the combat. It's pretty good. I still would have preferred combat closer to Risen though.

Acrobatics is now Dodge Rolling, learn in new camp by Buster for 10 LP. Press alt-twice. It's not mandatory but makes combat vastly easier.

Yeah it does look like a bit too easy of a getaway trick, might just not use it if it's too unbalanced. I assume enemies can't roll around themselves?

Yeah no but you overstate it's significance.

Compared to OG gothic in which the attacks are semi random in the remake they have like 2/3 different attack animations that they play and apart from the Lurker (possibly shadow beast and troll as I had Acrobatics then) you can just walk away from the enemy and not get hit. Like literally just normal move when the attack starts.

Guess Gothic 2 will be spared from a remake then. Needs to make like 50million just to be profitable says brave AI.

Also I managed to open most chests now. But there seem to be a few locks which just arent possible even with max lockpicking perk. Where the plates only move to one direction. Also farming gardists for their crossbows which are worth like 200 ore is quite op. Just a shame XP is hard to farm early game unless you focus only on dmg skills and not crime.

Also werent the permanent stat boost potion at least +3 in the original? Remake they are only +1 thats so ******* weak with how rare these are.

Nerfing everything to make it harder is a Gothic tradition that started with Night of the Raven.

50 million is an overshoot. Breakeven is probably around 30 million.

Doing some napkin math: the team size varied from 20-50 people over the course of development. We'll take the average to be 40 over the course of production. The average American game dev is estimated, with all expenses included, to cost about $200k/yr. Spanish devs are generally estimated to be about half that, so $100k/yr. A year of development is 4 million, so 20 million over 5 years. Marketing costs are about a 50% additional cost for a game of this side, so 30 million total.

harder? then they should fix the AI against range cheese. This just makes investing into alchemy less rewarding. But the engine sucks for this kind of game so much, I got stuck so many times in some things. Sometimes there is a bug when you cant attack, weapon switching between bow/melee also takes too long. The whole animation system feels very sluggish most of the time and the movement is very imprecise aswell.
