Guild Wars 3

Post by Val the Moofia Boss »

GW2 streamers are receiving packages from Arena Net, and a reveal might happen at the 5th at the Summers Game Fest.

We have footage of what the game might play like.

The posters on r/GuildWars3 have been tracking Arena Net job applications for the new MMO onto a spreadsheet, and they have also been following Anet people on Linkedin. They found someone who they believe was hired for the Combat Designer role. His portfolio which has two action combat demo games on it. So maybe GW3 will be some sort of actiony game along these lines. He might not be the only guy handling the combat, so who knows.

It seems quite fast paced, reminds me of Warframe.

Somewhat slower, though I'd wonder how something like swinging a heavy two handed warhammer as Untamed would feel, or if enemies would be fast enough to move away before you could swing it.

Different demo about Orc combat. He does feel more threatening than your average mob. Imagine if that was a Charr or a Kodan!

Obviously these are just barebones demos so no idea how abilities would fit into this, or how playing a ranged character would feel.

I quite liked the jumping puzzles, especially the dark room tomb raider segments in the base game where it is pitch black and you have to throw a torch trying to feel for platforms to jump to over the spikes of death. That was more engaging than whacking respawning monsters for a little bit of exp and whatever coppers and trash items for the umpteenth time.

The real issue with GW2 is how ****** the game was and still is. Weapons being pigeon-holed into specific sets of skills instead of having a lot of them in case some were **** like in GW1.

This was made supposedly because Anet could balance the game better and yet scumbag Mesmers, Guardians and Rangers have been OP in every mode for years. Mesmer being the worst especially in PvP/WvW with how ******** OP it was and still is in many ways.

That and the story sucked **** compared to GW1, GW2 tried a serious note then became a meme then gay *** **** with non-binary asian cantha engineers.

I went through the whole Guild Wars 2 story again a few years ago and thoroughly reviewed every expansion and season on RPGcodex. I thought that the story was overall good up through the first episode of Icebrood Saga. You get a relatively fast paced globe trotting adventure romp that takes you to a new high fantasy zone once every 1 to 2 hours and culminates in a setpiece meta event fight. Seasons 1 and 2 are low points for sure since they don't introduce new maps and instead has you stand around while characters talk talk talk for 16 hours. Your story experience also varies depending on which of the 10 main characters you pick. I played male Charr, voiced by Ron Yuan and Lex Lang, and they both sound awesome. I was initially put off by Lex Lang when the male Charr PC's voice was recast at the start of season 3, but by PoF he fills into the role and I started to like him too. HoT through season 4 was a solid, good high fantasy RPG experience. The story got a satisfactory climax with the soft conclusion that was season 4. Icebrood Saga despite being aborted was overall okay, and then you just have 5 hours left in EoD so you mind as well just finish. EoD was a very disappointing ending. I haven't played past that.

GW1's story I found to be unengaging. I dropped the game due to a combination of factors such as the frustrating missions and the lackluster aesthetics.

Forgot the worst of them all, necromancers! On a serious note we have to see but people i have talked with (disgruntled pvpers/wvw) say that Anet will flop with this next one. Most of the old geezers are not in the game and what's left is a bunch of pozzed ******* with no talent.

Don't get me wrong, it does a lot of things right. The gameplay is still fun (I used to be warrior until revenant came out in HoT). I would say that they can release some of the worst balance patches I've seen in gaming, ruining specs and classes while keeping OP ones untouched for years. And with delays between balance patches being many months, that stings. WoW is **** but they got this right in case something is very off.

I'd say Core, HoT and PoF were good adventures. I did like SoTO too. From there, the living stories became quite ****** and worse overtime, until you got libtard content in EoD. They toned it down but it's still bad with cringe characters like Kasmeer and her lesbian cumdumpster.

Storywise I'm sorry but they mainly copy/pasted a lot of ****, recently the Titans which got retconned to fit their new narrative, recycled Cantha with EoD in an attempt to bring back people who asked for it since years.

PoF was just Nightfall again, hunting and killing a human deity. At least I'll grant we did not have a Kormir moment, that ***** thief...

Taimi got cringe overtime and let's not talk about Braam... Logan got shelved and branded queen feet licking simp. Gwen and Lieutenant Thackeray from GW1 would be sad.

Overall GW1 had way more grit than GW2, I'm sorry but when you compare the charr and how they pussified them overtime... That's just sad, you as a fellow charr player should see that. The missions where harder, they are frustrating because in some instances they required teamwork (GW1 is an online Co-op game and much less facerolly than GW2), but with a decent set of heroes you can faceroll them nowadays. And GW1 wasn't woke trash.

Also, bonus : For GW3, I hope they done massively down the VFX vomit, it's horrible in open world bosses, and the female barbies too.

They began preproduction around 2022 and were slowly ramping up the hiring, and then within the last couple years they opened a lot of temporary contractor positions to make models and such, which indicates that they made the foundations of the game and are now filling it out with assets and content. NCsoft has clamped down on Arena Net twice and then a couple years ago cited Anet as their major hope for the future, so I presume that they would be keeping a close eye on the project and would not have greenlit this ramp up in spending unless they thought that they had something here.

As discussed in the Next MMO thread, there is a hole in the MMO market as the current big MMOs are a decade+ old and are not attracting zoomers and alphas. There is also a big hole in high production value Western artbook fantasy games. If you don't like the Asian aesthetic then there has been nothing for you since WoW and Kingdoms of Amalur. Whoever gets to market first and can attract zoomers and alphas will win big as seen with Genshin and co, which are built on the bones of MMO design and has grabbed several dozen million people who like that look. What is interesting is that the Riot MMO had been in development for twice as long as this project, but the Riot MMO project has gone nowhere with Greg Street abandoning Riot Games which seems to be a vote of no confidence, and there is nothing on the horizon for it. While GW3 is moving forward so it seems they have a plan and the will to execute it.

I always find it odd that when posters fixate on the two minutes of woke stuff in EoD. Marjory talking about that Lion's Arch guy's "husband", Yao "your friendly agender engineer", and the beat the bigot step. Less than a minute of screentime in a 5 hour long story. That's pretty meager. The actual major problem was the amount of cursing that made it impossible to play with your window open to cool off your room when the neighbors' kids are outside.

recycled Cantha with EoD in an attempt to bring back people who asked for it since years.
Cantha in EoD, recycled? Did we play the same game? Aside from Echovald Wilds, GW2 Cantha looks nothing like GW1 Factions maps. Factions Kaineng and New Kaineng are as different as MTG Kamigawa vs Neon Dynasty Kamigawa. Factions Shing Jea looks like it is from a different setting than GW2 Shing Jea. Dragon's End hardly looks like GW1 Jade Sea either. GW2 Elona also does not look very much like Factions Elona either. The plot is also different, as in Nightfall you were apart of an army blitzing through an enemy empire on the mainland, whereas in PoF it's just you and three guys running through to get Aurene back.

Taimi was overall not a character I liked but I never felt especially negative towards her outside of that one season 2 episode where she ran off and got us into a lot of trouble. Fortunately Gorrick was introduced in season 4 who took over a lot of her role and is more likeable. Brahm I never got the hate for as a character (Eir inexplicably having a black son aside). The only part I remember disliking was when he mouthed off at the Commander half way through season 3, otherwise he was fine and reconciles quickly.

Have you checked the video ? Or whenever you have some time, it's way more than 2 mins, whole events and questlines are pretty much this. You can't build a fantasy world and get immersed in it if you have clown stuff injected in it.

You know the saying, **** in the salad. You can eat around it but you'll still eat **** πŸ˜‚

I think they can do a proper MMO, nothing holds my interest anymore and I'm just playing PoE2 and Marvel Rivals lately. But they really have to do good work and without ****** politics. The latter being extremely hard for the standard american, apparently. As EU peasant it annoys me to no end how many good IPs got ruined.

Yes, it was posted the RPGcodex thread several times and I remember it impeding conversation. I saw all of them first hand in the game and it did not take as long as a 3 minute youtube thread.

I'm torn. I'd like to see a new feature rich MMO, but the chaotic part of me wants this to be a mobile only, Clash of Clans-like spinoff game just to see the fallout.

Guild Wars 3

Plasticky armor design

Meh looking environments

Terrible art direction

Bear race but no charr or tengu

This had better not be GW3

Oh no

Guild Wars died with Eye of the North.
GW2 is such utter decline I'd be ashamed even talking about it.
Who the **** cares about a successor to that?

We’ve built a combat system designed to feel incredible no matter how you play, whether you use a controller or a mouse and keyboard.
ughhhh worse and worse, five buttons to play like gw2 , they really are going fully into the casual way
editing because i don't want to spam posts with new info i find
"Taking place over a thousand years before the events of the original game, Guild Wars 3 is set in the Tyrian region of Orr, a vast wilderness frontier imbued with the world's magic. Nature entities with strong connections to the land called Vael spirits embody the vitality of this lush, verdant landscape. Various guilds are engaged in conflict over how to protect or exploit the bounty beyond civilization's borders. These multitudinous spirits will vary in size and influence within the ecosystems around them, with the most notable of these being the Seeker. As seen in the trailer, every player's Seeker will serve as a connection to the spirits of Orr and a mount that will carry them on their journeys through the game's open world."

What happened to their great artists? What happened to Kekai Kotaki? Daniel Dociu? Ruan Jia? Carlyn Lim? Levi Hopkins? Why can't they contract all of the other good artists today?

Why did they trade that for generic Fortnite slop?

I need the Four Horsemen to come reap modern Anet for their crimes.

Taking place over a thousand years before the events of the original game, Guild Wars 3 is set in the Tyrian region of Orr
I do not understand what was the point of ending the GW2 story with Aurene going into hibernation for a future threat and promising to meet the Commander again and the plot hook of there being other worlds out there like the ones that the humans originally came from, only for us to instead drop that and go back into the past on Tyria.
