Unusual choice! Why this over the other two Witchers? While I can say I enjoyed Witcher 2's combat the most out of the 3, its writing was the least memorable.

My first interaction with this franchise was the second game and it stuck with me as most memorable of the trilogy and its really the only game i have finished from start to end from the threeValter wrote: ↑ March 25th, 2026, 18:31Unusual choice! I hold TW2 in high regard too, but after recently watching a streamer go through it, it doesn't seem to have aged that well. While the story and the decisions you make are top-shelf material, they are ultimately undermined by the amount of jank and the fact that around 90% of your choices are invalidated in the sequel. That’s the closest CDPR got to the books—and probably the closest we will ever get in video game form.
I find it interesting that I didn’t remember how bad the battle was at the Dwarf Fortress (if you side with Iorveth) until I saw it play out again, but I vividly remember how I felt when I accepted a quest and let the quest-givers take my swords. Such a foolish move. Never let them take your weapons unless they’re some kind of king or queen. It’s an awesome lesson for the player—and one that’s actually faithful to the books. Maybe the mix of jank, meaningful choices, and an enticing story is what makes me feel like TW2 has a soul. A fond gaming experience for me too.

I really enjoyed the second one. It took me about 25 hours to finish, which I find to be a perfect length.mynameismortis wrote: ↑ March 25th, 2026, 18:47My first interaction with this franchise was the second game and it stuck with me as most memorable of the trilogy and its really the only game i have finished from start to end from the threeValter wrote: ↑ March 25th, 2026, 18:31Unusual choice! 1. M&B Warband
2. Dragon Age Origins
3. Witcher 1
4. Expeditions Conquistador
5. Wurm Online

1. Monster Hunter Tri
2. Tactics Ogre: LUCT
3. Morrowind
4. Dark Souls 1
5. Contact DS
Sorted by how much I actually want to play them. Contact probably has the worst gameplay I've ever experienced alongside the most memorable art and music.

What a strange looking game
demonic shrigma game
Hello.
Probably something like SMT Nocturne, Fallout New Vegas, Tales of Maj'Eyal, Enchant Farm, Bloodborne, Earthbound.
Haven't finished Ruina: Fairy Tale of the Forgotten Ruins but its probably going to be there.
I hate having to decide what to name as my favorite. Proper post later.
Are you asking me to swap out one of your top 5 for Crimson Desert?
1) Everquest
It may be an MMO but it's more RPG than many RPGs
2) KOTC2
3) Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
It is like a more modern EQ, improved in many ways, worse in many ways. Overall I love it but it had a tragic go of it.
4) KOTC1
5) FFT
Doing only 5 is brutal. If there was a 6th it would be BG2, but I liked TOEE and IWD 1/2 just as much. Also I loved Blackguards, they would make top 10 at least. I would put System Shock 1/2 and Deus Ex around 3rd place but I don't consider them RPGs, more like FPS with some RPG. Same with Space Rangers 2. Eye of the Beholder 2 was my first love but in hindsight it has a lot of issues. I still love it. Same with Lands of Lore. I loved the start of Wizardy 8 more than most games, but I don't like it after Arnika Road. The road itself was ok but beyond that I just got fed up of it. I only mention it because I loved the start so much.
There was a little indie RPG called Aarklash Legacy I really liked. But not top 5. Probably top 10. I liked one of the expansions of NWN1. Can't remember which. (The one that lets you have a full party). But it's not top 5 for me. I liked DoS1 (not the enhanced version). But not enough for top 5.
There's about 100 other RPGs I don't like but would have loved them if I could have tweaked their design a bit. p.s. I have still not played a lot of the games people mentioned. I should really play Wasteland 1 and Tactics Ogre asap.

1. Dragon Age Origins - unquestionably my favourite game of all time
2. Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines
3. Fallout New Vegas
4. Morrowind
5. Crusader Kings 2 - a bit out of the box, but I've had so much fun roleplaying characters according to their traits and stats that I can't think of CK2 as not an RPG.

@logincrash CK2 is a tough one but I've added it. I just hope it doesn't become a precedent for people bitching trying to add strategy games in the future. If you can think of a replacement it would be appreciated but no worries if you don't want to.

You can put Alpha Protocol instead of CK2.Jordy wrote: ↑ April 11th, 2026, 18:09Updated

Thank you for the effort you put into this whole thing.

Just to add, we have votes from 88 (two fat ladies) people so far.

Real Lusitanian
- Dragons Dogma
- Baldur's Gate
- Fallout 3
- Kingdoms of Amalur
Anyway. The rest of the games on the list sucked so hard I had to come up with one of my own.
- Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel
1 - Dragon Age Origins
2 - Divinity Original Sin 2
3 - Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous
4 - Age of Decadence
5 - Dragon's Dogma
2 - Divinity Original Sin 2
3 - Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous
4 - Age of Decadence
5 - Dragon's Dogma
These kind of lists are fun, and I definitely enjoy reading through them and groaning in disagreement. Though, man, it's hard to pick a top 5. There's this 'recency bias' I have when it comes to games in the last 5-10 years. I can't even remember half the **** I played back in the 2000s, nor could I form an objective opinion without nostalgia. As far as single-player RPGs, there are games I have dozens of hours in, and games I have hundreds of hours in - and then finally, there are games I have thousands of hours in... to overlook the difference would be disingenuous and basically me trying to be cool by picking some 20 year old game I haven't played in 15 years.

3. Kingdom Come: Deliverance

I'm familiar with most of those, but never heard of Age of Decadence. What do you like about it?roldet wrote: ↑ Today, 17:351 - Dragon Age Origins
