I was a console *** when I was younger, so Morrowind on xbox was my introduction to TES. It's still one of the most memorable games I've ever played. Because of my love of TES I still stupidly hold out hope that TES 6 will be great.

Oh trust me, I know. The Bethdrone is immunized against all dangers: one may call him a casual, a harbinger of the decline, a dumb-dumb, it all runs off him like water off a raincoat. But call him a Bethdrone and you will be astonished at how he recoils, how injured he is, how he suddenly shrinks back: "I've been found out."
This board is so based.

Nothing "wrong" with Fallout 3 (except all of the things, ofc) but also nothing good about it either.
Fallout 4, while objectively ****, at least tried some things with new stuff and more scope.
The real issue is, of course, who the **** voted for Starfield, and what ****** joined him?

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

"Based"? I cannot even begin to describe my disgust by the fact that oblivion is tied to morrowind, which is objectively the only good Bethesda RPG. How times change that oblivion, which was ridiculed on the codex back in the day, is remembered as some kind of a classic now (LOL), and it's not even a subculture thing - a friend of mine who introduced me to Morrowind was so waiting for Oblivion that he upgraded his PC for that I think, and when it came out he was disappointed, citing that the game didn't have the charm of Morrowind whatsoever, and he wasn't even a codexer. Terrible taste havers ITT
Oblivion is better than Morrowind in a bunch of ways. Not the worldbuilding, though, for sure.revenant wrote: β November 19th, 2023, 17:50"Based"? They're each best at something the other severely lacks.
Ideally, you get the best of both, but we got Fallout 3, which was just low-mid, and Skyrim, which only took modest amounts of the two.

Oblivion has exactly zero redeeming features. All bethesda games range from mediocre to utter ****. Arena and daggerfall are the ultimate bland experience, morrowind has great ambiance but little else. Despite all this oblibion still manages to be the ultimate face of decline. If you had to pick one game to symbolize all retardation that ruined games in the last decades there would be no better choice. It is the crap that started it all.
Also you ******* who like the cutscene theme park skyrim, kill urselves.

Most of Kirkbride's stuff was removed from Oblivion, therefore it is the better game between it and Morrowind.
Also, playing Morrowind->Oblivion->Skyrim back to back makes it painfully clear that Morrowind has the worst quests by far. They're nearly all boring fetch quests or static targets to kill.

Every quest where the player picks a thing up is a fetch quest. Morrowind's quests suck because the quests about killing things and picking things up aren't as fun without havok physics. That's the only difference.
Nah, there's a difference between grabbing Fargoth's ring from a barrel and stalking him at night without being detected to discover his secret stash.maidenhaver wrote: β November 19th, 2023, 20:05Every quest where the player picks a thing up is a fetch quest. Kinda dumb that Starfield has more votes than Fallout 3.
Fallout 3 is not a great game by any means but it's waaaaaaaaaay better than Wokefield.

Oblivion and Skyrim quests can be summed up in "go to the map marker - do the thing - go back". Morrowind have simpler goals, but it gives players a lot more freedom of figuring things out by themselves. The most elaborate Oblivion/Skyrim quest is still less involving than "go to these ruins and bring me the dwemer cube".Oyster Sauce wrote: β November 19th, 2023, 19:41Also, playing Morrowind->Oblivion->Skyrim back to back makes it painfully clear that Morrowind has the worst quests by far. And in Morrowind there generally exists more than one quest item in the world like books or dwemer airship plans, giving you more opportunities than the quest item that only spawns after you've triggered something in the questline even if you already know where it's located.wndrbr wrote: β November 20th, 2023, 01:05Oblivion and Skyrim quests can be summed up in "go to the map marker - do the thing - go back". Terrible example. You get the ring to demo magic items, and you can either give it to him or lie and keep it. There's no substantial difference between bgs quests in morrowind vs oblivion or skyrim, except morrowind's quests don't rely on map markers or cool physics.Oyster Sauce wrote: β November 19th, 2023, 20:58Nah, there's a difference between grabbing Fargoth's ring from a barrel and stalking him at night without being detected to discover his secret stash.maidenhaver wrote: β November 19th, 2023, 20:05Every quest where the player picks a thing up is a fetch quest. Do people actually just do the quests in these games and not just do some of the ones that work for their build and then just adventure around until you get bored/complete some objective?

People who like m*rrowind have mushrooms in their brains. There's nothing good about the game at all.
It is probably the most hipster game on the list tho, which explains the reason why so many pretend to like it.

There's nothing hipster about liking an Xbox platinum hit. Morrowind was never obscure unless you were a baby when it came out.

Pretending to hate Morrowind is hipster. There's nothing to hate about it you can't hate their other games for, unless you are so upset there are mushrooms, you can't stop thinking about them.

You can't actually name anything good about morrowind.
"muh exploration"
the island is the size of my back yard.
"muh directions, no quest markers!!!"
half the directions were flat out incorrect because they didn't bother doing any QA.
Read the directions given here and see how long it takes you to find the desired location.

"t-t-that's just one example"

No such thing exists in Bethesda games. If you can max out everything on any character, then there's nothing really to build, you just grind. This particular design philosophy just got worse with every new game they made, culminating with Skyrim, cause in previous TES titles at least you had a class to choose (which ultimately only changed the rate at which you increased skills, but there was room for optimization). You had birthsigns you chose at character creation that you had to stick with (instead of being able to change it willy nilly at a moment's notice).
There's plenty of things you can like about Bethesda games, but in terms of buildfaggotry they're some of the worst RPGs I've ever played (this applies to Morrowind as well).
I'm sure you totally naturally found this out in a game with hundreds of quests and didn't just scrounge 4chan/UESP for some example that in your eyes justifies Oblivion's constant waypoint handholding.
