Ok Temple it is. Wow just wow. Well "Can kicking Sim" or "Bash 'R' repeatedly to fail" are in the lead. Here is rooting for "Can kicking Sim".

Serious question. Is your definition of RPG "bad controls"? Or maybe "****** AD&D adaptation"? If you objectively apply your definition to JAG history, how many games fail that test?

Dark Messiah has attributes, experience points, talent trees, damage types, consumables, magic items, spells, equipment tiers, dungeons, fighter/mage/rogue archetype, and secret rooms.

Image
I'm sorry but Far Cry 3 also has:
-EXP points
-talent trees
-equipment tiers and progression
-different damage types (bullet, fire, explosive)
-consumables
-dungeons
-different character archtypes (rambo, sniper and stealth knife killer)
-and most importantly, different characters builds according to your playstyle
-plus, it's also a confirmed racist game according to game journalists

Far Cry 3 for JAG at july 2026
Please post your definition. As I said, it was a serious question.
RPG is whatever you feels like, that's it. There's no point for debate when over 50% of games are labeling themselves as RPGs.

I enjoy point & click games, so I have no issue with this.
I hate them.

I also had trouble launching Dark Messiah the last time I tried playing it a few years ago.

Lower your resolution or texture settings so that it doesn't use above a certain amount of video ram.

For Dark Messiah, PCGamingWiki states Large Address Aware helps with stability.
Significantly improves stability on 64-bit systems with at least 3 GB RAM by allowing the application to use more than 2 GB RAM. Resolves the "Out of Memory" crashes. Use it on the mm.exe in the game directory.

:wizard: I was originally going to vote for ELEX, otherwise for The Temple of Elemental Evil. In any case, ELEX is the kind of game that is extremely flawed while also shining in cRPG elements—very bad and very good at the same time. I would really like to see an ELEX Remastered, of course, provided the developers don’t mess it up, but now if only Embracer Group can do it... under Embracer Group’s decision, Deus Ex Remastered has already been put back in the oven or frozen in the fridge.

Dark Messiah? It's an ARPG in the style of an Immersive Sim, with very limited RPG elements—an ARPG in the sense of Diablo, though Diablo is clearly more of an ARPG. But this isn't a bad game, just not on the level of Arx Fatalis or Dishonored.

:broken: If Arkane had made Arx Fatalis 2 back then, we would have gotten a true RPG. However, it seems that at the time only Ubisoft was willing to fund and publish Arkane's new game. Ubisoft didn't want Arx 2, so Arkane's new project became Dark Messiah. Oh, and it's said that Todd Vaughn from Zenimax's publishing division also wanted to sign Arx 2, but Ubisoft and Arkane's deal happened faster, so the truth is uncertain.

It seems Ubisoft wanted Dark Messiah to be more action-oriented and less RPG-focused, which directly influenced Arkane's subsequent direction. Compared to Ultima Underworld, Arx Fatalis had clearly started to diverge from the CRPG path, but it was still deeply rooted in immersive-sim RPG approach.

Dark Messiah is not a bad game, but it's barely even an RPG
Agreed, I'd place it in the "RPG elements" category
