Biggest achivent of unreal 5 was dei programming edits in their engine code. Quality of games made on this engine was as good as this edits.

I'm terrified of unreal 6 achievements in finding another low.

Unreal 6 is a good way to try and recover the brand from all of the Unreal 5 games.
I've played indie games using UE5 that look fine and run great. I think the performance issues are just a correlation with AAA slop; they use UE5 because it's a standard that allows them to replace devs with less engine-specific training, and AAA studios answer to non-gamer executives that view optimization as an expense to minimize. But yeah, the brand damage is (un)real.J1M wrote: ↑ May 24th, 2026, 19:12Unreal 6 is a good way to try and recover the brand from all of the Unreal 5 games.
If I was Epic I would introduce a certification process for Unreal 6 games, if you don't put some effort into optimizations then you have to display the Unreal 5 logo.enisey wrote: ↑ May 24th, 2026, 19:25I've played indie games using UE5 that look fine and run great. 100% AI integration. If you don't know how to then just GROK it.
Wuthering Waves on Unreal Engine 5 runs flawlessly on both PC and phones. I am convinced this is a skill issue among Western devs.

I genuinely thought this was a joke
But to my utter disappointment it turns out UE6 is actually a thing
Wheres the difference between this and UE5 btw? looks the same to me

I feel like UE5 has barely got any good games as well.
This is like the whole console thing where each console release has like 1 or 2 major games that are somewhat good and then everything else is trash

Yes, it is a skill issue. But the engine should have some guardrails for studios that won't invest in doing things well.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ May 24th, 2026, 21:23Wuthering Waves on Unreal Engine 5 runs flawlessly on both PC and phones. what happened to the PS1/N64/Saturn/PS2/Dreamcast/Gamecube eras ? they had a lot of game and most of them wuz pretty gud at least. Your only criteria was if you liked those style of games.DecadeRiptide wrote: ↑ May 25th, 2026, 01:30I feel like UE5 has barely got any good games as well.

There is still a lot of great game content being produced every year. It's just that much of it is not in the form of ye old one time box purchases. The Famicom boomer economics that sustained that no longer exists.Killagain665 wrote: ↑ May 25th, 2026, 02:13what happened to the PS1/N64/Saturn/PS2/Dreamcast/Gamecube eras ? they had a lot of game and most of them wuz pretty gud at least. N64 was terrible. It did not have a lot of good games. There was Super Mario 64, Mario Tennis, Ocarina of Time, Pokemon Stadium 2, and... I am really struggling to think of anything else good here. Lego Racers, Clayfighter 63, and Jet Force Gemini were okay, not great.

If you go back and play a lot of the N64 games you thought were good, you'll find they were choppy, ugly, had weird controller mappings, and bad input handling. I'd put Super Mario 64 in the not that good list. Doom 64 is surprisingly good once you adjust the controller mapping, though.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ May 25th, 2026, 02:30There is still a lot of great game content being produced every year. OoT / SM64 had surprisingly good controls (both in terms of mechanical controls and how the game played) despite this, however.Tangerine wrote: ↑ May 25th, 2026, 02:56If you go back and play a lot of the N64 games you thought were good, you'll find they were choppy, ugly, had weird controller mappings, and bad input handling. truly it was the time frame 1985 (+/-) to 2005 were the sweet spot for games. since then there have been quite a few good games and some epic ones even but if you can list off that whole list would not even be just the solid 7~9 out of ten group from either the PS1 or Super NES. Probably comparable to just the good side of the PS2 library. NOTE: this excludes pc only games. PC has always been kinda king or it's own thing when it came to gaming until the PS3/XBOX 360 era and everything started having ports more consistently.
I will add Goldeneye 007 , Ogre Battle 64 (Tactical RPG Come on man) , Majora's Mask (Zelda) , Perfect Dark , and of course StarFox. Won't go through more cause they may be great games but aren't top tier like what you were stretching for. But no matter what system really, we each will have "those games" we remember better than others. The N64 had terrible controllers.

Pretty weird to see people ******** on N64 games that redefined genres because they aren't as refined as games that came later.
PS: I never owned an N64.

The library was just dogshit compared to its own predecessors, and it's competitor of that generation. Goldeneye was fun as **** and I played countless hours of it, but the game is ******* awful. There are no RPGs to be found at all, while its competitor console could mog it alone even if you singled out certain devs. ie; a PS1 with Squaresofts lineup alone ******* obliterates the entirety of the N64. Capcom, too. meant Konami*. Capcom would have an argument for some people though depending on their genres of choice thoughJ1M wrote: ↑ May 25th, 2026, 04:36Mario 64Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ May 25th, 2026, 02:30There is still a lot of great game content being produced every year. No hate, I had one and I had fun playing it. but I also had a NES, SNES, PS1, and a PC, so I both knew what Nintendo was capable of and what the competition offered. People rave about it too much because it was the main system they had or the one they are most nostalgic for
Also if you're someone like me who doesn't like Zelda or Smash for example, that cuts out a big draw automatically due to its already limited library

Loved playing my N64 until a burglar stole it when I was a kid. As a big boy with access to emulators, it's easily the most ignorable console of its generation. What am I going to do, play Pokemon Stadium?
