It sounds like you should have played on a slightly harder difficulty. I recall many challenging fights. Even the Ogre at the end of the tutorial required tactics on harder difficulty.

It's easy to understand how killing a dragon from your nightmares would be a grueling affair and why you feel the way that you do right now.
In a strange way I think BioWare foresaw this. 10 out of 10 game.
