You can find one for free in the cathedral though along with a set of tesla armor. Just make sure to wear the robe so nightkins don't attack you.

Yep and so does exploring The Glow. Plus it's the only way to obtain the powerfist for a low-int character so whatever.Zess_T wrote: ↑ May 9th, 2026, 04:13counterpoint, going to the cathedral early is gayTinky Winky wrote: ↑ May 9th, 2026, 03:53You can find one for free in the cathedral though along with a set of tesla armor. Some encounters are particularly well-designed. I liked the ghoul boss fight with all his underlings, it was like tower defense

Some ***** *** ************ in the Hub was selling an armor for 50k, the same armor being sold for 6k on a town closeby. Piece of ****, overpricing swindler.
But I do like when merchants have their own prices. Gotta keep your eyes open

But regardless, be you rich or poor, high prices for "good guns" that are 10x cheaper a mere 3 day walk away is nothing short of a ripoff. Better prices, better inventory (unless you want a Super Sledge). Why would you choose to attend this shop under these circumstances? I guess it would be a reasonable choice were you unaware of the alternative, but this very same merchant informs you of the Gun Runners, as well as the Brotherhood of Steel (not that I can check their prices, I ****** off the guard and now I'm forever barred from entrance, despite having SAVED one of their shiny metal asses!

Saving a 6 day walk through the badlands is a very reasonable reason to pay higher prices for most people in most settings.Valter wrote: ↑ May 10th, 2026, 06:32NoTweed wrote: ↑ May 10th, 2026, 01:56You don't say?!Valter wrote: ↑ May 10th, 2026, 01:15Some ***** *** ************ in the Hub was selling an armor for 50k, the same armor being sold for 6k on a town closeby. Especially if the first three days of that walk involves carrying cash and no gun.

Total Super Mutant Death
Surprisingly enjoyable game, if not a bit infuriating at times, particularly due to technical issues such as the poor player pathing which would get cancelled if the destination was too far, the incessant NPC doorblocking, and some buggy interactions that would hamper quests.
Not to mention the agonizing companion AI, though I recognize its implementation is barebones and you don't really need them, so it was still my call to carry their ******** asses around. But by God they have survived!
But I can understand how this was critically acclaimed with how fleshed out of a game it is. Decent character building and progression, limited world resources won't let you just grind it out, good weapon variety, plenty of secret interactions that take your decisions into account. It really felt great to explore the wastes.
The game also felt surprisingly snappy for its age. Click click boom it's done, it's loaded, it's saved, you just changed map, etc. And I don't think I crashed a single time. Using the GOG version, wonder if it's substantially improved since its original release
And the "click for everything" design choice for every interacftion is surprisingly fluid once you get used to it. Movement, attacking, skills, the whole deal. You might very well be able to play the entire thing with just mouse.
I really liked the player agency you're afforded in this game. "Hey bud, hey champ. Here's a monumental "find a needle in haystack" task, there's the closest town, get to it. Oh and we're all dead if you don't find it in 3 months so be smart and quick about it"
...okay then. Though this also led to the awkwardness of killing the Master before his Lieutenant, but c'est la vie.
The encounter design in particular was satisfying. Generally there was good balance to it, and positioning mattered a lot in handling the enemy efficiently. And I always appreciate friendly fire being enabled in games, as mad as I'd get at my own team for doing it, it feels good when a misplaced rocket kills a bunch of enemies.
I didn't like how little armor options there were, but I didn't do the Brotherhood at all so that might have been a factor, though I doubt a single Power Armor would have changed my mind. Also the Necropolis must have been the most boring place of them all. Slow and weak ghouls, and lots of them. Just a slog to get through.
Despite the barebones main story, the logs revealing the lore behind the mutants was pretty cool. Little good bit of worldbuilding.
All that said, though I appreciate this game's legacy, I don't see myself replaying it. A lot of the time I'd just be thinking "Man, I could just be playing ATOM instead."

Only metagaming I engaged in was remaking my character 5 minutes into the game once I realized he wasn't able to speak a single language.

I'd forgotten what a slog Necropolis is. Just like real life!
Nowhere near enough mexicans to be real life.
Still pisses me off that Reno got their faggy sign, but they couldn't be bothered to give Necropolis the Bakersfield one. It was actually a bridge that used to link two parts of a hotel when it used to be over on Union Avenue before Buck Owens bought and refurbished it.

There's a difference in approach to worldbuilding between Fo1 and Fo2. Fo1 intentionally tries to abandon the past and buries most of the reference to prewar world, while Fo2 keeps bringing it back. In Fo1 it wasn't clear why the war happened, meanwhile in Fo2 you can find a holodisk that neatly explains the Resource wars.
Even the inventory continues this theme - Fo1 only had like two or three real world guns (Gizmo's Mauser and Desert Eagle), and all of the other guns were made up to really sell the idea that this is a different world. Meanwhile Fo2 brings back a ton of real world guns like greasegun, fal, p90, tommyguns, g11, etc etc.

I wonder how many people have ever managed to find Loxley.
