Pretty sure I played Mario Kart while still in school in the 90s.

Weird I was just coming here to ask about something related. I just got an Emulator to play Mario Kart 8 Switch version. It is ok but not as good as I hoped. Are there any good Switch games you can't get on PC?

Xenoblade 2 and 3. Do not play the demaster of 1. If you are going to play 1 then either play it on Wii or New 3DS.anvi wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2026, 21:09Weird I was just coming here to ask about something related. Emulating the switch ports of the Atelier games are way better than playing the actual Steam PC ports.

13 Sentinels and Unicorn Overlord aren't Switch exclusive but they're not on PC. I haven't played them myself but have heard good things if you're into the genresanvi wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2026, 21:09Weird I was just coming here to ask about something related. Astral Chain, but I also haven't played it. Looks cool but IIRC there's no way to play 60fps on emulator so **** that (maybe I'm misremembering idk)

"I don't care what they tell you in College of Winterhold, Tiber Septim was a Redguard.”
If they post **** like that show them the games which released in like 2006 which still get remasters today. Only one I even tried there for 10hours was nightreign and that was not great.

Why? Because this is something I have been wondering because of my lack of enjoyment. I owned all the PS2 and PS3 Atelier games and loved them then started playing them on steam and just ...... they are ok, Ryza got booty I guess.
PC port is just overall terrible. stuttering without a controller, menu lag, resolution only goes up to 1080p, no borderless windowed, etc. You can just emulate the switch version at high rez and get none of the issues.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what makes the Switch version of Xenoblade 1 inferior to the older Wii and New 3DS versions?Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2026, 23:03Xenoblade 2 and 3. I'm not particularly knowledgeable so please take my posts with a grain of salt.
Is there a reason indies don't use old game engines to make legitimate "retro" titles? Is it something like id and Epic don't offer stuff like the Quake 2 or Unreal engines for license anymore? I'd imagine some indie would get a lot of mileage making a spiritual Deus Ex game
you guys hear about this Little Big Planet servers drama? I don't quite understand the whole situation honestly (was it emulated servers? hacked ps3's? no idea), but some well-known LBP youtuber I guess killed the servers because he's sick of *******

The original game had a painterly Vagrant Story/FF11/FF12 aesthetic, which differentiated the game and also lent it some grit which paired well with the first half of the story. The Switch rerelease replaced the models with rubber moeblob models. The new models are also less expressive.Steel-Knight wrote: ↑ May 6th, 2026, 12:23I hope you don't mind me asking, but what makes the Switch version of Xenoblade 1 inferior to the older Wii and New 3DS versions?Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2026, 23:03Xenoblade 2 and 3. The colors and details of the environments were lost. There are also issues with the rerelease, such as trees not swaying in the wind anymore.

Original soundtrack is also flatly better than most of the arranged tracks.
I think Switch has Xenoblade X, it's a WII U port if I remember but 1. it's not available on PC and 2. it's the best the WII U had.anvi wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2026, 21:09Weird I was just coming here to ask about something related. Really nice game, for what I remember back in 2015.
Smash is good if you have friends, 8 player support! PS: there's also mods if you don't like how someone looks...
I guess possible lack of modern support and insight, the opposite of why the current engines are used more from a development perspective.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ May 6th, 2026, 17:18Is there a reason indies don't use old game engines to make legitimate "retro" titles? It's a really cool idea but it's easier to get unity or something lol, for all I know of course. PS: also availability.

That aside, even my near 2 decade old childhood games have this drama, for **** sake with this people...

The primary reason is that the old tools are a bit more difficult to learn, and there's no knowledge base for the devs to use. There's a ton of tutorials for Unity or the modern versions of Unreal engine, no such thing for something that was programmer 20-30 years ago. Compatibility with the modern hardware and the support for multiple platforms is another issue.sheet wrote: ↑ May 6th, 2026, 14:48Is there a reason indies don't use old game engines to make legitimate "retro" titles? That's being said, there are a few examples of modern throwback games using old engines - Wrath aeon of ruin, Ion Fury, Hedon, etc. All of them, however, were built on modified source ports (darkplaces, eduke32, gzdoom) instead of the actual old engines. It helps that all three of these still have big modding communities that can be sourced for help. Even then, Wrath and Ion Fury took ages to develop due to the tools being suboptimal and due to the dev team being unable to easily hire new designers (no one wanted to waste time learning old **** that would be only useful for one project, and if you try to hire the modders who already knew the tools then you'll get a bunch of buffons suffering from the lack of work discipline).
And Genesis (Mega Drive for our Europoors) games, even Amiga games.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ May 6th, 2026, 17:18People still make Dreamcast and Gameboy gamessheet wrote: ↑ May 6th, 2026, 14:48Is there a reason indies don't use old game engines to make legitimate "retro" titles? I blame the devs not the consoles for this, there is no reason to improve graphical fidelity anymore we've already peaked, now it's just diminishing returns.
******* think that autoclickers and keybinds that frame-perfectly execute intricate combos in fighting games are not macros, and they also believe that macros are not cheating tools.
Is it possible to learn these moves?
