Funny that they seem to have gone back to real action and not this yellow fever turn-based goofy ****.
I genuinely hate Ishiban and his Like a Dragon series. Absolute liquid dogshit.
My best friend loved the series and introduced me to it, I started with 0 and played Kiwami 1 and 2. I still need to finish the rest since I have the remasters and 6. I played a bit Pirate in Hawai but honestly, even despite loving Majima, the gameplay is too boring. Enemies are super brain dead easy real quick and hardly a challenge. The only thing that can be annoying is some pirate crew missions where it's only difficult because they swarm you with pirate *******.
I know why RGG studio tried turn-based, because japtards prefer turn-based games. But really, turn-base in RGG???? The whole point of the series is being an action game. They thought giving us a niggajap with an afro, goofy story and cringe characters would help. But nope, never spent a penny on Ishiban's shite.

I did like Ichiban, but he did get overly annoying in Infinite Wealth. I am done with the turn-based stuff too despite liking it initially (big JRPG fan). I'd be fine with Ichiban as the solo protagonist with the classic action brawling gameplay for his next game (if he even gets another one...).7Trickster wrote: β April 25th, 2026, 00:25Funny that they seem to have gone back to real action and not this yellow fever turn-based goofy ****.

Pirate Yakuza meanwhile, is the worst game in the series. I recommend just dropping it if you're still playing it. It's horrible. And since you still have a treasure trove to go through (3, 4, 5, 6, Gaiden, and the Judgment games), you've still got plenty of vastly superior games ahead of you, so there's no need to force yourself through the weakest entry.

Majima is my favorite so even if they made a goofy setting I had to try it. I did dropped it after failing a pirate mission over and over due to just being swarmed right at the start. It left me such a bad taste in my mouth and I'm not one to give up. But I did here, it was just bad.Bhaalspawn Jr wrote: β April 25th, 2026, 01:15I did like Ichiban, but he did get overly annoying in Infinite Wealth. Stranger than Heaven looks interesting, seems they went with a Peaky Blinders kind of vibe. I'll definitely not buy day 1 but I'll see how it goes. Judging how they rushed and ****** Kiwami 3 for a quick buck. Hell even Pirate in Hawai still have CTD bugs in cutscenes.
I'll be playing Stranger than Heaven on day 1 probably, and I'll post a mini review here after I finish it. I hope it's a 'return to form' for RGG. They've been blowing it recently.7Trickster wrote: β April 25th, 2026, 07:51Majima is my favorite so even if they made a goofy setting I had to try it. I've never really given thought to a full ranking and I marathonned them all so it kinda all blends together. 0 is the best though and 4/5/LJ follow it for me (not in that order)Bhaalspawn Jr wrote: β April 26th, 2026, 15:52Just thought I'd share my ranking list for the series:

i'm about 80% through the first PSP game (Kurohyo) and it's really good you should definitely play it, I think you'll put it in your top half of the rankings. I need to finish it soon

Nice. I kind of just disregarded the PSP titles, but I'll look into them now. I imagine there are fan translations for them? I was looking into a fan translation for Kenzan. That game might be a hidden gem if it came out hot off Yakuza 2. Heck, I even want to check out the original Yakuza 1 + 2 now.methoxetamine wrote: β April 26th, 2026, 16:03I've never really given thought to a full ranking and I marathonned them all so it kinda all blends together. 0 is the best though and 4/5/LJ follow it for me (not in that order)Bhaalspawn Jr wrote: β April 26th, 2026, 15:52Just thought I'd share my ranking list for the series:

Yeah both of the Kurohyo's have fan translations. The story is such a nice change of pace after playing the later entries since it's actually dark and seriousBhaalspawn Jr wrote: β April 26th, 2026, 16:23Nice. Cool. I really hope that's been RGG's approach for Stranger than Heaven. The series has always been called 'goofy and weird' by normies, but the earlier games were pretty darn serious in tone. It's also got one of the best written villains in the series.
And everything just comes full circle. It's such a great send-off.

PSA:
For anyone interested in starting this series, start with the original Yakuza 0:
https://www.gog.com/en/game/yakuza_0
Avoid the Director's Cut version as it makes questionable changes that lessen the impact of events in the game. Steam and console stores delisted the original version, but GOG still has it. You could also pick up a physical copy on console (I first played it on PS4).

The original, sure you could, but Kiwami was developed as both a remake of the og and a sequel to 0. I recommend going with 0 then Kiwami then Kiwami 2. It's a fantastic trilogy, and Kiwami 2 ties up some loose ends from 0.

I'm actually not going to watch this. They'll probably reveal too much and I prefer to go into these games (or any game for that matter) blind.
We'll probably finally get the release date though.

Stranger Than Heaven releases this winter!
I'm avoiding the presentation because I don't want to be spoiled (like film trailers, you can just figure out the plot and characters pretty easily), but I have read about the new combat system and it sounds promising.

Osaka 1948 should be very interesting. Allied occupation. Food shortages. Governor McArthur. Comfort women. Etc. Makes you wonder how the occupiers treated the yakuza. Were they trying to stamp them out, or working with them like how the British worked with the triads?
