What game are you playing?
Well it's that time again. That time where all the games I really want to play are coming out Tomorrow* (Much later in the future) and I still have plenty of time today to waste. So I turn to my old addiction, MMOs. This time it's SWTOR! Raji (SWTOR support staff) was helpful in getting my accounted reinstated so I can actually play, don't ask.
Also I know I need help
Did you know that Class/spec is no longer tied to character story? The only thing that matters is if your base story is that of a force sensitive person or not. So a Smuggler could play the entire smuggler story line as a Sniper instead of a gunslinger! I think that's neat.

I beat Sekiro this year and thought that game was Miyazakis fantasy. Instead this game was his inspiration. After defeating each boss you get super long cutscene to pre history of the character. It has everything Sekiro has: prosthetics? Check. Stolen body parts? Check. Running through mobs to get to the boss? Check (well this one applies to Dark Souls too). Did I mentioned it has the exact same copy of Gaping Dragon boss fight? I'm having a blast so far
You wouldn't tell from the completely unrelated name, but Blood Will Tell is based on the 60s manga, Dororo. It got an anime adaption a few years ago.Mr.Wonderful wrote: ↑ November 21st, 2023, 21:51I love to take lots of beer or wine on my free days and blindly launch some obscure PS2 game I don't know at night. CA are a British developer, staffed by Britons, so it's to be expected they're a failure in the eyes of God and men.
I didn't know they did this.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ November 22nd, 2023, 14:21Started playing Total War: Attila and did a defensive battle. My troops and the invaders were 50% women and the battlecries were noticeably female. I hope all video game developers die.

What utter stupidity.
Do they really think even the strongest women could compete for a second with a male warrior?
It would be like a man trying to fight a lion or something. You might win once, but you'll be ****** up hard.

i vaguely recall that at one point they patched the game to make lots of the generals female and then banned a mod that changed it backOyster Sauce wrote: ↑ November 22nd, 2023, 14:21Started playing Total War: Attila and did a defensive battle. I'm reluctant to start the free DLC or even bother with the paid one because I've read they're tuned exclusively for powerbuilders. I may try it out in the future for curiosity's sake, and cheat through it if necessary, but I'm done for the time being.
I played the 3DS version with the original character models. I was engaged by the first half of the story when it was about the protagonist and his grim revenge pursuit. Then I reached Prison Island and it became your usual JRPG shenagains about fighting for the fate of the universe and battling a god monster and such, so I started tuning out there. The game had fantastic aesthetics. Not just the world being set on the backs of humongous creatures, but the environments looked great. The huge vistas of Gaur Plain, the glowing trees of Satorl Marsh, the waterfalls of Makna Forest, the luminescent Erywn Sea, etc. I have found few other games with as visually captivating environments. The game also had a surprisingly great English dub. Soundtrack was decent. Besides the second half of the story, probably my biggest irritation was the crappy MMO combat, the mediocre sidequests, and the armor designs for the characters didn't look very appealing.Roguey wrote: ↑ November 30th, 2023, 16:52Finished Xenoblade Chronicles. Very bland and generic. I liked the Future Connected epilogue more than the base game on account of it being less bloated, and the addition of the ponspectors, who were funny and mechanically preferable to chain attacks.

Finished Annihilation Line. More of the same with a little less than half of the total playing time. Amused by how it gave me just enough experience to not quite reach the level where you can become unstoppable.Roguey wrote: ↑ September 10th, 2023, 23:27Finished Terminator Resistance. Fun shooter, though personally frustrating at times, and a far worthier sequel than any of the movies they made past the second. Also gave the Infiltrator mode one spin (on easy mode of course; I still almost died in one spot) and that was also pretty good. I'll wait for a sale to check out Annihilation Line.
The game is set in an alt-history revolutionary France. The protagonist is Napoleon's younger sister Pauline, but instead of her historical self she's a military officer with the mysterious power of a 'Maid', though what this means exactly isn't clear; it's implied that Joan of Arc was also one. I know very little about the time period but so far every time I've looked up something the game mentions it has turned out to be historical, so someone on the dev team must be a serious ouiaboo. I'm halfway tempted to find a book on the topic myself.
It pretty much plays like Fire Emblem except with no permadeath (though you receive less money at the end of a mission if you let units die) and a minor facing mechanic. Weapon durability also recharges between missions, but not consumables. Most missions have a Challenge, which is a side objective that gives a bonus reward if completed. Playing on General (Hard) mode, aiming to complete every Challenge, and ignoring the free battles has been enough to make the game pleasantly challenging. @Acrux I'm under the impression this is the sort of game you would like, provided you can stomach the awful translation.
I think everyone might be interested in this game.

There actually is a Joan of Arc game on PSP, but I haven't played it so I can't vouch for its quality.Acrux wrote: ↑ December 2nd, 2023, 23:55the title made me think of Joan of Arc, which I've thought would make a great game for a while.
I have gotten what I think is halfway through the DLC and I have to say that it's a roller coaster. There are many highs but they chose to implement one mechanic and I can't see why they did it that way. Again, I haven't finished it so I'll see how it pans out or if it is just a loss. The puzzles are less engaging as it is DLC-sized rather than full game-sized, but the "fluff" is good, really good. Again, it's one mechanic that brings it down, but everything else is about level with the rest of the game. Worth the price? Ehhh... maybe? It's just hard to gauge when so many good games are much cheaper. If you are going to get the DLC and haven't played the base game, I recommend beating the DLC before you finish the game. It definitely helps to tackle another problem if you get bored/can't figure out another, though that rarely happens.Rand wrote: ↑ October 29th, 2023, 02:32Played Outer Wilds to completion. Worth every minute.Rigwort wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2023, 20:12Playing Castlevania and Outer Wilds. If you haven't played the latter, it is a good exploration game. What about the "Secrets of the Eye" DLC?
Worth going back for?
As for base game itself, it's a great puzzle(?) adventure(?) detective(?) game that requires a bit of skill in manipulating a space craft but otherwise just focuses on testing your intuition and deduction. It's pretty easy, but that may just be due to how the logic is all consistent rather than using moon logic. It's lack of difficulty showed as I got the perfect ending and I'm not exactly an adventure game guy, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It's nice to play a game that doesn't feel like a homage or a "*-like" game, and is worth the price.
****, I wish the Japs (and Chinese) would get over drawing their female characters pigeon toed stance.Acrux wrote: ↑ December 2nd, 2023, 23:55Thanks, looks interesting - the title made me think of Joan of Arc, which I've thought would make a great game for a while.

No, it's ********.

Unit balance was interesting. There was one unit type I definitely felt to be generally somewhat stronger than the others, but counters and level design made sure I got decent use out of every type. Ironically, the unit type I found to be by far the weakest ended up also being the MVP in one of the really tough postgame DLC missions, so while I would still have tuned it differently, I have to congratulate the dev for making sure none of them ended up worthless. I constantly had to reevaluate as certain units started strong, then fell off as levels increased, and then made a comeback as various skills and equipment were unlocked.
Completed at ~62 hours.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

I despise MMOs but I think this game can be played as a half decent rpg/coop rpg avoiding most of the mmo element.

That's pretty much how I played it ages ago. The Sith Warrior story was amusing enough for bioware slop but they fumbled the bag hard with every expansion and now all they have is a skeleton crew releasing tiny bare bones story quests and marketing them as expansions. It's kind of funny you can tell the moment a character has the potential to die that they will never do anything relevant again because they don't have the budget to make content for characters not everyone will see.
