Rogue Trader Portrait Replacer 1.0 — Rogue Trader

Post by Nessa »

Rogue Trader Portrait Replacer
What is this?

It's both a portrait replacer and a tutorial on how to do it without the use of ToyBox.

The way up till now has been using ToyBox. Which is not ideal because:
  • You have to stop your game, open the **** ToyBox thingy and replace a portrait.
  • ToyBox does not work automatically on all instances of the portrait so you frequently run into vanilla awfulness. This requires you to stop the game and switch, or live with hideous vanilla.
Downloads
  • Rogue Trader Portrait Replacer (Main File) - This is the one with my rapidly and mostly joke AI portrait replacers. (That everyone seem to love complaining about. Little *&#$#-ers.
  • RT- Extracted Portraits - This is just the vanilla extracted portraits from the game that you can use to do your own.
Requirements
  • UABEA
  • Rogue Trader
  • Windows (potentially WINE for Linux/Mac)
  • Ability to read.
Replacing Rogue Trader Portraits

3 ways:
  • ToyBox, with extreme negatives already listed.
  • Override textures via mod -- I have not researched this one but I know it's possible. If anyone knows of some good resources, please post a comment!
  • Replace the textures yourself in the bundle file. <- This is what we're doing here.

How to Use
  1. Download UABEA.
  2. Download the mod!
  3. Follow the instructions below.

I meant what I said in the questions that absolutely nobody will read: if you've got a choice you prefer for a certain character post it here! I may switch for future updates.

I think Argenta is already perfect the way she is, I wouldn't change her portrait.

I think the two best vanilla portraits are probably Cassia and Argenta. But... not good enough for me.

So do you. Yet here you are.

I thought, surely I wouldn't get complaints and instead get "I prefer this portrait" posts right? RIGHT? Nope. Thanks for reaffirming my misanthropic outlook.

While I'm here....

From the part nobody reads:
I'm a gay ***** and think X portrait is (insert idiotic expletive here)!

That's the beauty of this setup. All you need to do is replace any portrait in the "1 - Edited Portraits" folder with whatever you like. Just be sure to keep the same funky name. The numbers on the end tell UABEA which portrait to replace so you don't have to hand pick 100+ portraits by hand. So now you can be a gay ***** with portraits you prefer.

I... paraphrased. A little.

You really didn't get the hint. If you don't have a suggestion for an alternative portrait (which is the main point of this **** mod/tutorial) kindly:
Go-Musk-Yourself.gif
...

Yeah you'd be touchy too if you spent 2 hours writing up the tutorial in archaic format and all you get is some pissant whining about AI. And yes, I just looked pissant up.

Also you're straight up blind. Vanilla is disgusting to the point of capital punishment. Go join your woke Owlcat friends in Cyprus.

They're all the same, even the men. This is the one that I use, so it doesn't ruin my immersion. There are missing companions, but it's something at least.

Would love a decent Solomorne one, of a white man of course, but couldn't generate anything decent yet.

That's what I think about comments here too. The point of the **** thing is the tutorial anyway.

As there is no code, I suppose that's accurate. However I did figure how to do it with code but I don't like you so I'm not sharing it today. (Don't worry, my worst hate is reserved for @loregamer and @Tipfy . :smug:   )

You have tutorial above showing you how to attain this objective.

UGH I'll be nice one final time. Steps 1 to 3. You can export the existing game files from there. Then replace and/or edit as you prefer, then follow the rest of the tutorial as stated.

@Finarfin You know what... screw it. I'll upload the unedited files assuming this jury rigged net can handle it. You can then just download that and have access to all vanilla. Then follow the tutorial from there after you've changed what you want.

I'm also zonking the AI stuff because I'm sick of all the whiny *** ******* around here. (If you only knew what it means for me to cuss without self censoring... )

Rogue Traders portraits are supposed to look like
paintings and for me personally that carries them a lot through out the 100+hrs campaign that it offers. That effect here is lost and most of the portraits look the same too. Tone wise some
of them don’t fit the Warhammer aesthetic too.

I think I might have some portraits lying around on my HDD back home. Will post them later.

The better ones are the painting AIs that nobody complained about. But yes in essence I agree, they should be more painting like just... not the disgusting filth we got in vanilla.

But yes, post replacements! That's the original point of this post. The AI-slop was just what I used in my game as an example.

Actually, I’m certain I don’t have companion specific portraits but if some extra portraits can help the mod just say the word.

Somehow I missed this. Go ahead and post whatever you find. Maybe it will help someone else compiling their own portrait setup.

So turns out @loregamer was messing around with AI and created something absolutely perfect for some of the complainers around here. I'd like to share his AI masterpiece here. (If you have any sense for the love of all that is holy, don't look.)

I can definitely see a series like this for the next update. :bounce: Of course I'm kidding you sick degenerates.

Uploaded some down below. Tumblr actually has a lot of Rogue Trader art that's not that bad, but not at the same level as the portraits used in the original game.
Let me know if any of the links are dogshit.

Well wouldn't you know it, they renamed about 3/4 of all the portraits!

I've uploaded the extracted portraits to be used for a replacing guide. (Under optional files.) I'll eventually get around to updating the main mod, but they've got some ugly *** Rusty level :smug: crap in the latest update that all need makeovers!
