This is like smearing your game visuals with a billion ReShade effects but even worse somehow.

Riiiight, why bother with pesky little details like lighting, specularity, reflectiveness, and so on, if you can just ask AI to make it look photorealistic for you :D

Soon it will be ps2 graphics at 30fps without DLSS, and with DLSS you will get AI graphics at 60fps (with 20fps lows).

I guess pros: for games like starfield an AI slop look is an upgrade.

I doubt that AI there runs locally. So they will probably want people to subscribe to their PC renting for this or a subscription just for that filter. Might work if it was an anime filter on the Starfield npcs... some idiots will buy that then.

I don't believe that what they are showing is being generated in real-time at 144 fps.

Introduces some interesting modding opportunities if you can inject a different LLM or whatever into the pipeline.

This is why Bluepoint was shuttered. Sony got the info from nvidia, and realized that they no longer need a dedicated studio to add extensive greeble and art-style-ruining chinese details into their games.

I think some of the DLSS 5 scenes were really great, but others not so much. The first clip they showed of the RE9 character "Grace" (in the rain) altered too much of her face. I wonder if this is due to the low resolution of the "before" image. Maybe the AI had less to work with, and therefore used whatever 5 billion instagram photos it learned from to fill in the gaps. However, the second clip of her, which was in a different setting, looked really good. The Starfield scenes were good, but the Hogwarts seem to clash with the original art direction. Part of it is how many of the faces seem like paintings, rather than people. Maybe that's where the "uncanny valley" unease sets in and why it received so much "reeee" in response. Keep in mind, too, this is only the first iteration (remember DLSS '1'), and they have a long way to for optimizing it fully. All in all, I'm impressed, and since I do have access to a Blackwell GPU, I will be using DLSS 5 this fall.

And the new cards will be minimum $3000, if you can find one not being sold a year ahead of manufacture directly to the datacenter...

It is without a doubt the exact same as those indian twitter posts where they "improve" female characters using AI by giving them pornstar makeup and giant tits and *** except this time it's applied to the entire game.

The Hogwarts examples are so impressively bad that it's amazing. It's obviously using some kind of slightly non realistic style(and maybe even overly diffuse materials), and dlss5 just nukes the entire style/lighting. Did they even review the video??
