Morrowind -OpenMW

Post by Boontaker »

I have downloaded Morrowind and OpenMW. I'm beginning to download mods and set everything up, I just wanted to ask if anyone has done this recently and has any tips or warnings, or recommended mods to pickup.

OpenMW has its own list of verified mods and recommended mods for a fresh playthrough and I will be using those. Plus anything that gets recommended by RPGHQ,

What do you N'wahs think about Open-MW?

Is the Lua support any better? Last I saw most interesting mods used MWSE.

Problem with the MW Lua engine is that it's just a thin wrapper around Morrowind.exe internals. OpenMW won't (and likely can't) reproduce that. So there will never be "MW-style Lua support", modders need to tailor their Lua code for OpenMW.

No. If you want vitruvianguar's mods, you still need mwse.

This is the worst of all possible worlds.

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

Never play dunmer. There's nothing lower than a diaspora dunmer outlander. You aren't a native, so you might as well pick a non native race. I usually chose imperial or woodelf.

That's a moronic take from the devs. They need to tailor their project around decades of Morrowind modding, not the other way around. Vast majority of mods simply do not work on the platform, and the modders that made those mods have long since retired.

What this really boils down is the monkeys in charge of OpenMW refusing to implement compatibility for MWSE mods. They've been saying, for years now, that they plan to make "something better", and this "something better" is likely not going to make MWSE mods usable either. And yes, I'm aware they said they might do it once 1.0 is released, but they're full of **** and everyone knows it.

Basically, it's just more ********, pointless modding drama.

It speaks volumes that most modders choose to make their mods compatible with vanilla MW instead of bothering with this trainwreck.

You could volunteer and implement a shim library.

Big words but again, it's not possible unless OpenMW project wants to be shut down by lawsuit from Bethesda.
OpenMW is very backwards compatible were they can, even reintroducing stupid old bugs because someone somewhere relies on them.

Playthrough going well, zero crashes so far. A few graphic errors and I have had to use console commands to fix a few things (delete extra walls on forts, or objects blocking paths that a content mod added). I forgot how engaging it is to focus on character advancement, rather than just Do Quest - Get Power. Hunting down specific skill trainers, being careful to play in particular ways to have a character that is vastly more optomized vs the alternative. Morrowind seems much bigger than I remember it being, I TLDR'd most of the mods I installed so I don't know if its that or modern distant rendering and lack of FOG.

So far the few modded quests I have completed are seamless, the game not being fully VA really helps here. The in game journal is already over 100 pages, I bought my own journal just to have a quest log to track things. Mostly so I don't forget them after moving on to do something else. I have refrained from doing anything too degenerate (alchemy exploits), planning on starting on some enchanting once my combat skills are "finished".

I had to do some research on the combat system once I got frustrated with it, and just knowing how it worked solved my issues. I prefer MW system to skyrims for sure, although give it another 50 hours and who knows. The 1337gam3r in me laments the change to future elder scrolls systems, but I know why they did it. If I wasn't experienced enough with RPGs to know "Knowledge is Power" then i'm sure I would get fed up quickly. Still, **** normies for ruining RPGs for the rest of us.

What is the name for morrowinds advancement style? The Improve what you use style? Skill point allocation is ****** tier RPG mechanics.
