Mewgenics

For discussing tactical and strategy games. What's the difference between tactics and strategy anyways?

Mewgenics

Post by GhostCow »

I've been waiting forever for someone to make a thread on this so I guess I'm going to have to. Am I the only person on the forum playing this? It's a ton of fun and it has the best OST I've heard in a while. I like how your kitties get retired after each adventure and the main way to get stronger is breeding for better stats instead of leveling up.

I liked Isaac, but Mewgenics looked too different and out there, so i didn't bother playing it. What is it like?

The idea behind the gameplay seems like something I'd love, but the artstyle and poop humor stuff is so offputting to me I haven't given it a chance

It's hard to describe. It's honestly more like a SRPG than anything, but like I said, it's more about breeding and gaining stats than leveling up. The skills you get as you level are randomized based on your class and there a something like 8-10 classes to pick from. I haven't unlocked all of them yet. The breeding takes inbreeding into account and you will be punished if you do that. Some cats also have positive or negative mutations that can be passed through breeding.

The humor is funny to me, but not hilarious. I like it. It's the kind of stuff a middle school goth kid would come up with in the 90s. Edgy but not too edgy. Also fairly creative imo.

It just looked gross to me. Same with the Binding of Isaac. Too many gross-out art styles in games for me these days.

Will be surprised if this doesn't clean up all the soundtrack awards even if it came out at the start of the year.

Probably. Will it run on my potato and do I have to pay for it? What's it about, other than "that cat game I keep hearing about because the voice actors offended everybody"?

The art style is supposed to be reminiscent of old flash games on newgrounds. Your kitties can be pretty ugly

Yes... that's the biggest downside. But, the gameplay is really, really solid. If this had a fantasy coat of paint, with you being the "guild master" of an adventurer's guild it would be a slam dunk. The dialogue is reddit tier and the graphics are classic Edmund style.

But, the gameplay loop is really good, the classes are fun and because you can only use the cats in one adventure, it every run feels like a real adventure. I would have bought if it didn't had all the bad stuff, but if you enjoy the tactical grid based gameplay of games like FFT, Tactics Ogre or even Fire Emblem, then pirate it.

Enjoy the ride until you get bored or finish the game. It has a ton of content and I agree with GhostCow, the soundtrack is really good.

There are so many great songs in the OST, but this seems to be the most popular

This is a pretty terrible map, TBH. There's only one direction you're even able to go? Is this the tutorial map or something? Do the other maps at higher levels actually let you make choices?

Each map has one split somewhere in it where you can take a harder path for better rewards

That's it? You make no decisions at all? Because that's not a decision, that's just a fake choice. Only children play easymode.

This is more of a strategy game than an RPG. There aren't many choices to make. Everything is random. Even the events on the maps.

This does not sound like a very good game.

The funny thing is that I was just talking about the effects of randomness on games in the IRC, in an unrelated context about those gacha nose games.

I only remember this exists because of the black pussy.
Trailer was interesting.
The art style looks really nice, I like it.
Not my type of game though, reminds me of Binding of Issac or something.

You do get to choose what skills you want when you level up, but it's from a random selection. Or sometimes it's all +2 to a random stat

Looks like a game that will make you the girl with the most valid gock in the discord server.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

I was not in the market for a game like that to begin with (not a fan of the type), but I checked out their steam page when my friend told me he was playing it and I found the humor in the trailer to be a major turn-off.

Yeah, I played it, I felt like I had my fill of the gameplay loop before tackling the desert though.

I got tired of grinding near the end of act 2 to be honest. It's cheap enough that I don't feel ripped off though
