Who would've thought that just adding Polish people to the team could make such a difference? Not me!
In general you do need "juice" to make things feel good on the screen, I don't think anyone would argue against that. It's just too much juice is tasteless and gauche and many modern devs have no taste.

Yep I ******* hate it. Wouldn't play a game like that. Sure, some of the "game feel" in the demo is just basic feedback, but most of it is pure garbage for stimming autists.

The sfx/sound is a good addition, rest is something that should be done very situationally but is now just applied everywhere. It's ok to have a camera shake if a giant enemy is doing a stomp attack or something, but I don't want the camera shaking because my sword connected with the enemy

More like hit slop
Indie devs are all autistic, they are obsessed with this for the same reason why autists love sonic and anime: they are instinctively attracted to anything that's SHINY PRETTY.
Modern gaming is about choosing either derivative UE5 slop from mega corps, or derivative pseduo-retro slop from neurotic indie ********.

I feel like a lot of the devs are very one-dimensional people in their interests and end up playing the same games, having similar interests, and as a result similar obsessions (like hit stop fad).
Source: I've known a whole lot of people in the smaller parts of industry/trying to get in. A lot are really just obsessed with particular kinds of games, and a lot of them feel like copies of the same person. It's clearly autistic, and it's very echo-chambery. I ******* swear, there's a factory where they are all imprinted with love for **** like Celeste.
They need to get out more, get some hobbies outside of games/making games (I **** you not, some of them work on games at work, only to come home and work on personal projects....), and maybe play something different from whatever is currently popular in indie hipster circles.

What you are seeing is the end result of globalization and the internet, which has sundered everyone into their own microniches. People don't need to visit their local butcher for food. They don't even need to go down to the supermarket anymore. They can just order whatever they need to be delivered at their front door. People don't need to work around local jobs available anymore. Now they can up and move across the country for a job they are interested in. People don't need to do much of anything they don't want to. People don't need to go to Church or talk to their neighbors, or anything. And people don't need to all watch the same movies and shows like Star Wars or Michael Jackson and so on.mercerxiv wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2026, 04:34I feel like a lot of the devs are very one-dimensional people in their interests and end up playing the same games, having similar interests, and as a result similar obsessions (like hit stop fad).Tinky Winky wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2026, 04:06More like hit slop

People can just stay at home, and only do what specifically really interests them. If you are into K-Dramas, then with the power of the internet you can watch K-Dramas nonstop each day every day and never run out. Do you like Harry Potter fanfiction? You can read each day every day and never run out. Playing indie metroidvanias? You'll never run out. Etc.
I don't see what there is to complain about. Everyone on this forum is just as guilty of indulging only in their microniches that appeal specifically to them. This is a splinter site of a forum that started out as being primarily for people obsessed with CRPGs, and even had threads following individual game devs. The KotC2 thread was cheering a guy on who spent 10 years of life not working a "real job" but instead working on a low production value combat sim game, and dogpiled a poster who questioned whether or not that was a good life decision.
Yep, exactly. It's completely this. Autists need their stims so they look at this and genuinely think it looks good because it gives them "braingasms" or whatever they're calling it now.Tinky Winky wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2026, 04:06Indie devs are all autistic, they are obsessed with this for the same reason why autists love sonic and anime: they are instinctively attracted to anything that's SHINY PRETTY.

For one, you are projecting very hard here. If this is what modernity and globalization is to you, then it's your individual experience. Nobody has to build their own goon caves and confine themselves to them. It is by individual choice. If that's how you live, then it's on you. I guess this is how you become a wowposter in 2026.
Additionally, you are painting local people with a pretty wide brush. Not everyone here is what you claim them to be, and not everyone exists in an echo chamber you have imagined. Who cares if it's a splinter site of something else, and what it's a splinter of, RPGHQ has found its own feet to stand on, and its own life. Some people may well be what you are claiming, but it's delusional to assume that of everyone here. Actions of a few forum members are hardly a proof of any kind of rule of thumb here.
I can speak only for myself in this, but I don't limit myself to such a degree you describe. There is, in fact, all the more reason now to cultivate more interests that are further apart thanks to the ease of access and ease of discovery for great many things. If you are a shallow person with a one-dimensional array of interests, then that's on you. Don't try to push the blame on "society", "globalization", or any other convenient scapegoat. It's entirely you.

This has been the case for the entirety of man's existance. There's something to your original point. I don't think it means that niches or microniches are bad however. I think the problem is that niches and microniches have been forced into the role of ersatz community, by the destruction of the real thing. And in that sense, there is something to complain about. Real, healthy community is a people, in a place, in shared circumstances, working toward some shared purpose. So for instance I would argue that something like a Company Town would be far healthier for us than the globalized, atomized world the West lives in today. But we don't have that anymore, unless we work for techbro billionaires who have done something like this with community:Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2026, 04:43What you are seeing is the end result of globalization and the internet, which has sundered everyone into their own microniches. I have in mind the example of Elon Musk's SpaceX and Tesla towns. I don't think he intended to build a healthier version of community. He just needed a purpose-built group of people with high internal cohesion, low turnover and high loyalty. Now, how would you do that?!
So we do have something to complain about. Criticizing ourselves for spending our time and effort in microniches is akin to criticizing a one-armed cripple because he created a wooden simulacrum of his missing arm. Yes, of course it's inferior. Yes, of course it's not an actual arm. Yes, of course he's eventually going to be comfortable with it, perhaps even proud of it, or what he can do with it. Does that mean he shouldn't complain that he doesn't have the real thing? Or that he should be criticized for not growing a new, healthy arm himself? Would it be appropriate to accuse him of "indulging" in the only form of replacement arm he's likely to get?
If there is anything to criticize, it might be that somewhat-aligned elites aren't trying to figure out how to "give us a real arm".

You are putting out a lot of non sequiturs and unproven assumptions just to back up your gay lover. I.e. your insinuation that Vals projection that he is in majority being true. That's a bold assumption, and an unproven one. Show us some data to back up the original claim, or we can both throw out wild theories with buzz words like "globalization" without anything to back them up other than "trust me bro".
Go suck off your boyfriend and come back with actual arguments.

I'd be surprised if there is enough good HP fanfiction to last you a month, let alone a lifetime. Maybe if you accept merely "readable" fanfiction it could last a couple years. After that you'd have to start rereading, which isn't going to sustain a hobby on its own. Even gooners seek new types of pornography to maintain the novelty.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2026, 04:43What you are seeing is the end result of globalization and the internet, which has sundered everyone into their own microniches. The reality is that a lot of people just don't mind consuming slop so long as it is new, which is why Hollywood and AAA gaming (and HP fanfics) still exist at all.
You forget something important. Harry Potter is a children's book. Someone old enough to be allowed on the Internets that's somehow still obsessed with a children's book is a semiliterate baboon, and therefore, unlikely to be capable of reading very quickly. And will likely have a relatively short lifespan before dying of the diabeetus or something.anonusername wrote: ↑ March 4th, 2026, 23:23I'd be surprised if there is enough good HP fanfiction to last you a month, let alone a lifetime.
