Going Medieval is leaving early access March 12. I played it very early on. It has some interesting concepts, but it basically boiled down into a medieval-specific Rimworld with a z-axis. The population was smaller than Rimworld at the time; I don't know what's viable now. Performance wasn't great so here's hoping they've improved that.
We have a Steam curator now. You should be following it. https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44994899-RPGHQ/
Rimworld (and similar games)

It salts my balls to no end how much of a pain in the *** it is to get mods from the steam workshop if you have a non-steam version of the game.
Always ruins my new save hype when I inevitably realize that half the mods I want to use don't have a github link and aren't mirrored anywhere else.

That's usually what "z-axis" means

Not necessarily. Sometimes it just means non-level surfaces are restricted or totally unusable for building anything and the best map ends up being completely flat.
In Going Medieval you can go up/down something like 30 tiles. You can build up and down, or into mountains. There's pretty good water physics, too. From what I remember, you're pretty much required to do some digging at least for refrigeration of food early on. You can build towers and archers have some max effective height ranges.Norfleet wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2026, 00:03Not necessarily. I don't know if there are specifically dwarves (or elves, or anything like that).
I think that just means they did it badly, though.Norfleet wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2026, 00:03Not necessarily. Sometimes it just means non-level surfaces are restricted or totally unusable for building anything and the best map ends up being completely flat.

Going Medieval is out of Early Access, too. Play it if you want; I don't care.
There's a game called "Ascent of Ashes" from some big Rimworld modders (Combat Extended mod for RimWorld—one of the biggest and most well-known overhaul mods in the RimWorld community) that are attempting to address this very thing, but they're having money problems and it looks like they may fail.anvi wrote: ↑ July 24th, 2025, 15:29I want to like games like this! But they just don't do enough. I draw some squares, I put in some chairs and tables and a bed. Now I have a little village. Some little guys attack and we win and gradually grow. Now I have 10+ citizens with their own homes and a store room and everything is working great. But now what? I need something else to do....
I was excited at the idea of going to other regions and then maybe the game could be some kind of strategy game or 4X or something. If I could build up my little village and then found other villages across the world. And then tech improves and soon we have well armed troops that I can send to war against other big tribes or something. That could be cool like in a grand 4x type game. But nothing really happens. I basically fill the small starter region with buildings and that's kind of the end. I could repeat it in another region but it would accomplish nothing.
If it was completely crap then I could just ignore it. But these games are close to being interesting so it's a big harsh tease. I would really like a cross between this game and Factorio. Like if you are not stuck in a small region but instead you can just keep growing your village and it grows into a city, that would be great. And if there were more meaningful attacks and combat, I might care more about defending it. And then if there were rare resources far away it would encourage me to expand my tribe and send them to capture further away lands, that would be great.

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

This one looks kind of neat. I don't think I've seen one of these with a modern military setting before.

Here's a new one that has a demo. The videos remind me a bit of KeeperRL.
