Contrarian forums like the Codex, TheSietch, Kiwi Farms, etc, have a unfortunate problem where they hyperfixate on the woke part as if it was the entire experience, rather than evaluating the holistic whole experience. Technical execution of the art, music, sound design, UI, gameplay, etc. It's a similar problem to what happened in the 2010s where youtube essayist channels and CinemaSins caused a hyperfixation on plot holes and writing as the end-all-be-all to art and ignored all of the other aspects.

There is a lot to talk about GW2. The mount system. The platforming. The character design and customization. The elite spec fantasies. The music. The creative Elder Dragons. The spectacular meta event chains. The painterly UI animations. The WvW experience and how it had changed over the years. Being able to be in multiple guilds at once. The plotting and revolving door of writers. The overall good fantasy adventure experience. The voice acting. The monetization. Etc. But you came in and that's what you wanted to talk about.

It is not contrarian to hate games when they're woke. Contrarian would be something like hating everything no matter what. As Tangerine says:

Now you may enjoy eating yummy cartoonslop dragon-riding soup, turds and all. But I don't. I'll take a hair or some minute unknown flake of material. Maybe even a small fly! But not wads of obvious ****. And I'm not a contrarian for noticing that almost every ******* bowl of soup on the planet is filled with them.

I'd rather have a bunch of situational useful/powerful abilities than abilities you rotate through like playing a guitar :turtle:

How tf you people manage so much wowposting for a gay ****** dead game? I'm genuinely surprised someone can get attached to what basically is a rotting carcass of something that used to be pretty good once upon a time but got into sodomy, caught HIV, voted democrat, and then died to violently masturbating with sandpaper while jumping off the nearest bridge.

Seriously, how can anyone normal like this **** these days :D

First, Li Li has finally grown up, after she was introduced 14 years ago. That's neat.
Reading this got to me. It's like when I heard my nieces and nephews are now driving. Just a "****. Time flies, and I'm getting old." moment.

It is nice to see though. Other games and media tend to keep characters at the age they were introduced, so it is very refreshing to see her growing, both in age and character

This really. You have to be a ****** on some level, probably a bottom, to eat up this slop and then whine "but why people won't look at this distraction here". Sure, we can recognize some improvements/good things a game does. That said there is no amount of good that cancels out being a woke piece of trash.

I am getting the idea from what I'm seeing in this thread that Val is just a closet *** that is struggling with coming to terms with it and is instead posting massive copes that mostly boil down to redirection. If you are willing to look past the overwhelming faggotry in a game like that, then congratulations you are a well adjusted ****** that the leftards are actively trying to cultivate with their project. You are the useful idiot that they always dreamed of. And we are not talking about valid cases where you could argue that a "body type A/B" alone is not grounds for consigning a game to the sanitation pit.

Let me ******* go out on a limb here - Val also defended Veilguard, didn't he?

From reading some of his posts in the thread here it's also clear that he's got some form of autism, so not too surprising. Nobody normal would be posting this kind of ****, has to be some kind of mental patient.

Some of the best spells are ones that just make a dumbass effect appear on the ground. I remember respeccing into lightwell to mess with people who have never seen it before. Gandalfmaxing.

How much of these abilities were utility/defensive cooldowns? Also saw this chart while seeking what abilities were deleted from holy paladins

I'm with Oyster on that, compressed hotbars (aka GW2) with only the 100% necessary are one of the trends that tanked some of these MMOs. Even yalls beloved WoW has tried it with ability pruning and ended up eventually reversing course because it became apparent that it just made the game worse.

Niche and situational abilities is what adds personality to the classes, and room for skill expression, or even simply fun. Being able to put down stuff like the aforementioned lightwell was fun, and so was the useless Detect on rogues. And go away with the argument of it littering your hotbars - nobody is making you have them there if you think they are useless and you will never have a use for them.

What is more cringe than situational/fun spells is the minimalist hotbars with a cookie-cutter 5 weapon abilites, 1 heal, 3 utilities, and 1 ultimate. Formulaic, trite, and boring.

Huge hotbars are at odds with what WoW became: an action game in which you are pressing a button every minute to do damage, have to memorize a rotation, you are constantly having to dodge AoEs, have to interrupt M+ adds on two seconds notice or everyone dies, etc. That is a fundamentally different kind of game than WoW which might have played similarly to oldschool RPGs where ultra competitive tuning for timed M+ runs is not the end-all-be-all. Huge hotbars with niche spells don't even work in Retail WoW because the competitive nature of M+ where you can't allow people to mindcontrol the boss or do stuff like that. They have to go through the level as intended and get on the leaderboard as intended. Stuff like Guardian Druids entering a M+ run as Balance spec to help burst down the first trash pack, then running outside and switching to tank before carrying on with the run falls outside of the intended behavior and got removed.

Just saved the Sunwell.

It is bizzare that I - an undead death knight - was able to be transported by the Light, and then near the end of the quest be able to wield the Light as a weapon against the humongous sea abyssals. And I somehow was not vaporized along with the other Void creatures when the Sunwell powered up. The lore has always been that forsaken undead are severely injured by contact with The Light.

I don't like that the writers seem to be making Turalyon out to be an unreasonable battlefield commander. The player character and other people in this franchise have ALWAYS been splitting off from the main force of their own prerogative to go do important side things. But now all of the sudden, Turalyon is throwing a fit over Arator doing it with the PC? Turalyon didn't complain about this on Argus or in the Emerald Dream.

Random CGI cutscene during the questline. Arator looks like he's middle aged here, which is then hilariously followed up by the other cutscenes which make him look young.

Yeah, I mean the Cinematic was pretty cool but again it is very "hit or miss" with the faces. Liadrin looked off, Arator looks off.

Yeah Oyster's got a point. The fact that the forsaken can be Priests and use the light for restorative spells seems to imply they either don't get hurt by using it or endure it.

For fucks sake Arator

These people are CANNIBAL, HUMAN SACRIFICING SAVAGES who have been preying upon your people for ten thousand years!

Image

These savages have just crossed the border over the mountains, wiped out a village off of the face of the earth, and are stealing your stuff!

Literally FIVE MINUTES AGO you just watched from behind a corner their leader acting like a ruthless savage whipping out his knife to torture and execute captives

Image

But now you are stopping dad from burning out the bad? "Oh no we must all get along!" **** you **** you

I need BG3 "kill and remove any character from the story" freedom to be implemented in all games STAT!

YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO LOP THEIR HEADS OFF ARATOR NOT SAVE THEM!

Image

It's also frustrating that we are now getting GW2 End of Dragons "beat the bigot" ******** where you are railroaded into trying to stop the counterattack to drive the invaders out, and instead tell your people to lay down their arms because le invaders are misunderstood! This is civilizational suicide!
