Avowed, a TOW-like game from Obsidian

Okay, finished it (100%-ing it).
This game is less like Skyrim and much more like Veilguard, though with the saturation on everything dialed way down. If you play Avowed in 3rd person, it's nearly indistinguishable from it. But it's mostly boring where Veilguard was infuriating and insulting.
It's still pozzed with a huge majority of warriors/soldiers being women, no matter the society they belong to, as well as ****** and asian elves and dwarves. But there's no creepy pooner companion who talks like a modern day redditor.
Still, having to listen to the ******* ****** "Mother Nature" voice in your head nagging you the entire game about how it dindu nuffin and all the thousands of people it has killed with a bioweapon was actually the "evil colonizers'" fault was pretty ******* annoying.
All in all, I do not recommend this game to anyone. Which, ******* duh, is stating the obvious.
In fact, I don't recommend playing any Pillar of Eternity games. This entire setting is **** and subjecting oneself to it is a total waste of brainpower.
I really hope the ***** at Microsoft will finally destroy Obsidian too, so that we don't have to hear about this nonsense anymore.

"Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."
My problem with Obsidian games, especially with Pillars of Eternity (PoE), Tyranny, and The Outer Worlds, is that they contain elements I find neat and compelling that are often undermined by with woke stuff. They are not like Ubisoy or Soyny that i can just ignore them for that reason. For POE setting, fixing Vailian Republic with real Mediterrenean folk and introducing decent companions would serve me well enough. I think Avowed had much better combat and exploration (with verticality) than any vanilla Elder Scrolls game. (they obviously had some inspiration from Dragon Dogma/Dark Messiah.)

Something that I personally liked about Tyranny is that your women companions are both a sneaky dex-based rogue and a spellcaster, while the only female warrior in your party is a literal monster.roldet wrote: ↑ November 21st, 2025, 01:12My problem with Obsidian games, especially with Pillars of Eternity (PoE), Tyranny, and The Outer Worlds, is that they contain elements I find neat and compelling that are often undermined by with woke stuff. There are indeed massive buff wahmahs but at least you weren't around them at all times. And just like you said, the setting itself has potential if you remove the woke **** and are left with a relatively rare bronze age fantasy setting with a neat spell-crafting system.

All of Obsidian's games from that era were using Unity, much easier to mod than UE4/5.roldet wrote: ↑ November 21st, 2025, 01:12My problem with Obsidian games, especially with Pillars of Eternity (PoE), Tyranny, and The Outer Worlds, is that they contain elements I find neat and compelling that are often undermined by with woke stuff. Hot take: Avowed is a **** game, BUT if it had Cipher abilities, I would buy it. Even pay the AAA launch title for it. Which other game would allow me to use psionic powers, taking control over enemies, mind-controlling them, and casting disintegrate and mind blade in FPP?

Big Anniversary patch is out, lots of stuff like NG+ and new races and new weapons and other stuff. Not that I play the game, but I am particularly pleased to see they added custom difficulty options so you can tune several aspects of the game to your preferences. Not a lot of games do this, but I really like it.

Lost cause even if they allowed me to slaughter every annoying npc, it just looks too ugly to bother.

Hopefully, a PlayStation 5 release will help Avowed sell 400,000 copies on that platform. Currently, the game might not have even reached 300,000 copies, which is honestly quite ironic. You finally have the chance to make Pillars of Eternity 3, but instead, you rush to push out Avowed 2. That said, if someone genuinely enjoys Avowed, I am not going to complain—especially since it's on Game Pass.
More furbys or more multicolored *******? You know it's one of the two.
I looked at the playercount and there's not much of a bump, though it might be too early to tell. I'm obviously coping and sneeding since everyone is definitely playing on gamepass, the way Pete intended. Also, is their forum completely dead? This is I think the biggest patch the game has received so far and its garnered a whopping two replies.
I'd be curious what the actual sales numbers were as well. A month or so ago, Tainted Grail surpassed a million sales which I think puts to rest that particular slapfight.lucky-SVLLa wrote: ↑ February 18th, 2026, 18:38Hopefully, a PlayStation 5 release will help Avowed sell 400,000 copies on that platform. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Yeah those two and Dwarves. Pillars already had these races so it's not like they're just filling up their weirdstuff quota, just finally fleshing out their unfinished game with the stuff it was supposed to havestormvermin wrote: ↑ February 18th, 2026, 19:18More furbys or more multicolored *******? It reminds me that after Microsoft's acquisition of Obsidian, they could have hired Pete Hines after Microsoft-gaming getting rid of him for being too pro-PlayStation. Of course, this would have been on the condition that Pete Hines gave up his pro-PlayStation stance, at least until Microsoft Gaming itself adopted a more pro-PlayStation policy. Pete Hines could have used Outer Worlds 2 to counter Starfield. He was the person who hyped and promoted FO4, so he could obviously also hype and take advantages of Outer Worlds 2. My god, when you realize that Pete Hines seems to outperform the heirs of modern Bethesda and nuObsidian so clearly, it’s really comedic.
But there is a reason for this. Modern Bethesda and nuObsidian weren’t appealing to true immersion-fanatics, exploration-fanatics, CRPG-fans, sandbox-enjoyers, or larping-cultist anyway. Yes, Obsidian’s mainstream appeal largely comes from the mainstream thinking they might still be able to make New Vegas 2—though someone is blocking them. I doubt nuObsidian will make a Fallout game within the next five years—the year is already 2026. They just bribe parts of the mainstream media to pretend they still have those abilities, or at least part of the abilities they had in the past. Yet even compared to the FO4 and Outer Worlds era, they seem like hollow shells who’ve lost part of their soul—and the standards during FO4 and Outer Worlds were already pretty embarrassing.

That said, if nu-Obsidian were willing to make Pillars of Eternity 3, I would still hold a tiny bit of hope. Yeah, I'm too lenient, too easily optimistic.
Well, the mainstream fanbase thinks nu-Obsidian might still be able to make Fallout: New Vegas 2, or that The Outer Worlds is just Fallout in space

You're not getting any cerebral or dialog thick AAA games anymore because Twitch audiences will turn off their favorite streamer out of boredom if they try to play something like New Vegas.
Anyways, the original Outer Worlds only shines next to Starfield and Avowed or weaker RPGs. It's full of interesting ideas kneecapped by mediocre execution, and its post-launch handling only makes it worse: right after Microsoft's cash infusion, Fergus Urquhart had Obsidian abandon the idea of completing original game to rush Avowed, Outer Worlds 2 and even Grounded, with its DLCs ending up mostly phoned in.

TOW is a better game if you completely ignore all the computer logs, it needs less text, not more. The original Fallout had the right amount.sheet wrote: ↑ February 23rd, 2026, 17:30You're not getting any cerebral or dialog thick AAA games anymore because Twitch audiences will turn off their favorite streamer out of boredom if they try to play something like New Vegas.
The TOW DLCs took much longer than they should have. And, as with all the programmed NPC leftoids, they completely failed to understand the difference between what capitalism is, and what the perversion of it corporatism is.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ February 23rd, 2026, 17:56every outer worlds terminal is just "heh, capitalism bad right guys??"
I have sometimes managed to explain it to a libtard this way (not actually fully accurate, but it gets the point across).
• Imagine capitalism is the same base point as socialism, and other methodologies all build off of it.
• Now corporatism is essentially to capitalism as Stalinism is to socialism.
• You don't have capitalism for the most part, you have the descendant perversion called corporatism.
• And it's become perhaps even more malignant than Stalinism, it's develeped into full-blown soviet oligarchism.
• Get it now?

The writing team refused to actually follow what they were being told, Avellone wrote about this, so the tone is all over the place. Whoever was doing the terminals had a wildly different idea of what the story was about compared to the people doing the overarching story.Rand wrote: ↑ February 24th, 2026, 16:20And, as with all the programmed NPC leftoids, they completely failed to understand the difference between what capitalism is, and what the perversion of it corporatism is.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ February 23rd, 2026, 17:56every outer worlds terminal is just "heh, capitalism bad right guys??"

In the end it all goes back to a different version of slavery in both systems, just that leftists are so bad with money that they will eventually need military support to keep the slaves in line. While corporatism uses debt and the illusion of choice to shackle you. Thats why opting out of society and the wage cage is made pretty much impossible, for the people who can see through all ********. Only the people which are already rich dont have to.Rand wrote: ↑ February 24th, 2026, 16:20And, as with all the programmed NPC leftoids, they completely failed to understand the difference between what capitalism is, and what the perversion of it corporatism is.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ February 23rd, 2026, 17:56every outer worlds terminal is just "heh, capitalism bad right guys??"
