What game are you playing?
There's only so much modders can do to fix a game as flawed as Empire TW. Your best bet is to play Napoleon if you're interested in the historical period, because CA at least attempted to fix some of the most glaring issues.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2023, 02:17The base game didn't really grab me like Rome and Medieval 2 did, plus it had a ton of technical fuckery that I'm hoping this mod'll fix.
True, but if you're careful, you can pick up a nice rifle in there.Roguey wrote: ↑ September 16th, 2023, 23:21It's also obvious that the water chip is not in the first vault that Shady Sands can mark on your map. Safely skippable.
Easier to spot with the new "highlight outline items" hotkey ability.

Alternate site: I vouch for this site 100%. Have tested files against those directly from GoG and they've always been byte-wise identical. Also, they don't scrub the digital signatures and they check out for every file I've tested.

Played Outer Wilds to completion. Worth every minute.Rigwort wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2023, 20:12Playing Castlevania and Outer Wilds. If you haven't played the latter, it is a good exploration game. There are some decisions they made I think were bad, but overall it's a nice experience.
What about the "Secrets of the Eye" DLC?
Worth going back for?

I'll probably play Death of the Outsider, but I won't be happy with it.
I already know it should have been Daud, and note some diverse side character of no importance doing it.

I think these games just aren't for me but I don't find the idea of every mob being difficult to be fun, the game starts to feel a bit like a chore
rather than relax while killing weaker enemies -> focus to kill (mini-)boss, it's just constant sweaty time game

This has become one of my favorite games to play when I want to take it easy. its similar to old heroes of might and magic games, and turns into a grand wizard power fantasy as you take over the map. The battle system is pretty good, it can be manipulated to extreme degrees depending on what your arcane archtype is. You can do things like swarm the entire continent with "stacks" (units) of undead, or enchant your units to become unstoppable killing machines. Once you learn the game you will need to increase the difficulty so the AI can keep up with you.
Beyond the various IRL esoteric sources it uses as basis for the weirder aspects of the plot, it wears its inspirations (Nihei, Evangelion, Silent Hill, Lovecraft and what inspired him) on its sleeve. Some might say that it's a bit too on the nose (and it is in places), but I can't really complain, both because I like all those things, and also because they are combined into a cohesive whole.
Gameplay wise, it's a homage to early Resident Evil games by way of Silent Hill. It plays like a RE game, but the story is clearly channeling Silent Hill.
Maybe it's the way I play these games, but I found myself with an overabundance of ammo and healing items by the end. My advice is not to be too stingy with either (especially the handgun and revolver), other than the thermite flares - but as it is with these kinds of games, optimizing a run and knowing where to expend resources only becomes apparent on subsequent playthroughs.
For a game made by only two people for the most part, it has a striking visual style and great effort put into the worldbuilding.
As mentioned, the narrative channels a lot of Silent Hill, many aspects of the story are vague, hinted at or left unexplained. The protagonist herself in an unreliable narrator and it's difficult to grasp what is real and what is a dream, or what elements of the backstory are real, and which have been warped by eldritch fuckery.
That being said, a good hallmark of a cosmic story is the ability to make the human element shine through all the weirdness and horror, because it makes you care for the characters and heighten the horror and dread you feel. Signalis does this, to devastating effect.
It's one thing to read about a bunch of nobodies finding a strange island and seeing a Cthulhu rise from the sea, it's another to have characters you have come to care about experience the same thing. I love Lovecraft and his stories, but the man always struggled making the audience form an emotional connection with his characters.
I can report than other than the lesbian romance, there's not any other pozz in the game. In fact the game is a scathing, unapologetic "**** you" to the GDR in particular and leftist collectivism in general. Either one, or both of the developers, lived through that period, have someone that lived through it and told them about it, or lost someone they loved to that regime. Some may argue that it's a criticism of authoritarian regimes in general, but the two developers specifically chose the GDR, despite Nazi Germany being such a low-hanging fruit to pick.
Even the sole male character is portrayed in a somewhat positive light, trying in his own way to make sense of what is happening and stop it.

The idea of fun in this game is clearly that you go at each mob 300 style and get satisfaction that you beat them in manly CQC combat. If you just want to farm swarms of clone armies and occasionally whack a gigantic health bar to zero you play Diablo.

I hate most ARPGs, so something that's more strategic might appeal to me. But,the first trailer I see says "deep soulslike combat" which is a warning flag. What do they mean by it? Is it a rolling dodge game? Because I really don't like those.
Okay, exactly what I thought it meant then. Thanks.

But it's got two problems:
1) At least 2/3 of the player base has a two-digit IQ, and the first digit is not often a "9".
2) Cheating. Blatant, disgusting cheating. The average player gets 25-35 kills per match, but there are guys getting 50% more to almost EIGHT TIMES that (just shy of 200) claiming they aren't cheating.
Furthermore these are often new accounts with less than the first prestige rank. which means they're almost certainly banned cheaters back on a new account.
Oh. And the devs are ********. In both meanings of the word. The only thing they do quickly is break already working systems.

Online competitive games are dead, it's terribly easy to get access to cheats. An eye opening video I saw was about wall hacking in Escape from tarkov, every single game had atleast someone doing it. Even non competition games like MMOs are ****** as bots/RMT sales just make "effort" meaningless in the game. Small group online games are really where it's at these days, as you can find a solid group of people to play with that can promise to play somewhat legit.Rand wrote: ↑ November 6th, 2023, 07:08I've been trying to play BattleBit for fun and stress relief.

Makes it hard to get excited about future MMOs as there will always be someone jewing it up
