The Fallout show's second season only peaking the game at a third of what S1 did is telling though.
Since tv sucks now it's great how most shows have diminishing returns. Witcher and The Last of Us were all the rage for one season, then trickled down to nothing. One hopes that this will be Fallout's fate with season 3 now that they're done with the New Vegas ragebait.

most people who liked skyrim would hate it if they replayed it now, they liked it because they were 9
Most people who liked Skyrim have never stopped playing it for more than like 6-9 months before jumping back in.
People who like Skyrim would turn to shriek and turn to dust if they tried to play vanilla for more than 5 seconds.
Most of my Skyrim runs were vanilla (with the bugfix megamod), with only a handful of runs being modded with realism and survival mods. It's a perfectly enjoyable game on its own merits, and it's also kind of a breath of fresh air to just go through the raw Skyrim world as it is after swimming through that vast sea of mods. :xmas-turtle:

Skyrim is honestly such an ugly game. Even in 2011 the models were uncanny. I think Enderal's 'father', which I recall someone mentioned looks like an ape sums it up nicely.

Everyone looks like a deformed freak with an ape index of 10:1
I don't know how anybody played anything but the mainquest.

Probably. Bethesda games you used to ignore the mainquest and explore the world and find great loot or rob peoples houses.

I know how to play bethesda games, but I couldn't play skyrim that way. I joined the bard's collage and mages guild and never did their quests. When the thieves guild man told me to go to the sewer, I went in their lair, looked around, and quit. I got as far as Auriel's Bow for Dawnguard, because I was ****** the Ideal Masters didn't resemble the Chim-el Adabal anymore. I beat Dragonborn, kicking and screaming, because I hated how it was just memberberries and a nobody villain. I was still mad at the itemization, Skyruler Temple was boring, how Alduin was handled, no snow-whales, and the legendary heroes were nobodies. I don't know how anybody played Skyrim like they did Morrowind, because the best thuums were in the main quest.

I played Skyrim in a near constant state of rage, actually it was quite metal as ****, looking back. White Barbarian yelling at Dragons is a good premise.

I actually don't understand this whole 'I never played the main quest', they are generally better than the rest of the content.

The writing has been weak since, and even during Morrowind. The swan song was, imo, Shivering Isles.

Everything since has been mediocre slop.

While skyrim gets lof of things wrong. The music is great and it has plenty of dungeons to explore. But story and writing can be skipped ofc. Rest of the gameplay you have to fix with mods these days.

here a few examples (I dont use all currently):
MorrowLoot Ultimate
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecial ... mods/60888
Requiem - The Roleplaying Overhaul
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecial ... /mods/3058
Zim's Immersive Artifacts
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecial ... /mods/9138
Worlds Dawn - Enchanted loot and RPG attributes in Skyrim
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/73094
Dynamic Dungeon Loot (DDL)
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecial ... mods/10308

Certainly helps if you enjoy the progression loot system of these games. Plenty of artifacts which are really good then. Even the seven mile boots in Morrowloot make a come back. (sadly tho magic resist doesnt remove the blindness here tho :( )

Diablo 2 always sucked, was widely mocked by actual RPG fans at the time for good reason

So were the star wars prequels and even those look good nowadays... (not that I ever hated them except jarjar maybe)

And not all was bad in skyrim. Some of the armor designs certainly improved from Oblivion. Glass/mithril/Ebony looked really ugly in Oblivion and at least glass/ebony improved a little. Elvish maybe too but arguable.

only ******** on games but not giving alternatives aswell and I am one of the first to praise morrowind over later TES games... but bethesda always went 1 step forward and 2 backwards for TES at least. In starfield only backwards.

already played 1 and 2 when they released they were decent but no games where you get hundreds of hours played really. They are more like zelda than big sandbox exploring games and most of those these days have survival crap.
