I posted about Wonderland Online: viewtopic.php?p=338630-various-video-ga ... ad#p338630
It appears to have some players. More so on Aries than Taurus, at least for chatting.
I've downloaded NosTale. It seems to have tons of players but no one will respond to me.

I briefly tried both RuneScapes and LOTRO, but I want game with as little text as possible. I just want to play, not read. I'm tired.
I'd play SWTOR if I wasn't locked out...
Guild Wars 2 is an option but I have a deep dislike for the game.
I'm also going to try Blade and Souls Neo.
I can't really find any other game to give a try. I'm looking for F2P for the time being.
I'd like some people to chat with.

Apparently a failed mobile MMORPG is about to launch on Steam:

No, I don't remember when I stopped playing. I have a huge disdain for the playable ****** races.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ January 30th, 2026, 19:49Did you beat the story? I agree that that the other three of the other races aren't great (ugly human model, broad shouldered ugly human, Disney fanfic Sylvari), and the Asura are just okay (they look like the frogs from The Last Remnant), but Charr are awesome. Look like a hunched over vicious inhuman beastman. Automatically run around on all fours. Great voice acting by Ron Yuan and Lex Lang.Maledict wrote: ↑ January 30th, 2026, 19:50No, I don't remember when I stopped playing. I'm gonna give the game another try as I can't get SWTOR to work due to an EA fuckup.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ January 30th, 2026, 19:54I agree that that the other three of the other races aren't great (ugly human model, broad shouldered ugly human, Disney fanfic Sylvari), and the Asura are just okay (they look like the frogs from The Last Remnant), but Charr are awesome. I would normally think the char are cool but furries ruined all beastmen for me and I hate them for it all the more. Total Zoophile Death.

I replayed GW2 a few years back and wrote a thorough review on each expansion and season on the Codex. The TLDR is that the base/vanilla game maps and gameplay aren't that interesting. Gameplay becomes more fun once you reach the first expansion HoT. The GW2 story varies in quality depending on your choice of starter race, and the first two seasons aren't that interesting, but once you reach HoT the story becomes a fast paced high fantasy adventure where every 1 to 2 hours you go to a new crazy location and new cool setpiece fights. Due to behind the scenes stuff, season 4 was written as a soft ending for the game since it seemed unlikely that there would be another expansion. Turns out that the game got renewed for further development, but by that point a lot of the talent had left, so the game began to decline in quality. The original storyline definitively concludes in End of Dragons, though it's a lackluster ending compared to season 4's ending. Now the game has been on a holding pattern with mini expacs, the last of which has released and there are no more announced to be coming down the pipeline. So we are just waiting for GW3 right now (being made in Unreal engine 5, will be crossplatform with action combat, is sci fi and probably takes place in the future, perhaps on other worlds).Maledict wrote: ↑ January 30th, 2026, 19:56I'm gonna give the game another try as I can't get SWTOR to work due to an EA fuckup.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ January 30th, 2026, 19:54I agree that that the other three of the other races aren't great (ugly human model, broad shouldered ugly human, Disney fanfic Sylvari), and the Asura are just okay (they look like the frogs from The Last Remnant), but Charr are awesome. @Val the Moofia Boss I'd be more interested in getting GW1 re-release if it went on a solid sale tbh.

I dunno if it would be practical or feasible to go THAT far, but certainly I have found that the quality of a community can be improved simply by outlawing certain patterns of naming, such as "random numbers in names" and "xXx_name_xXx" type ****, most of which can easily be squashed impartially with simple regexp tests at signup/chargen, so that you don't end up with selective enforcement and a heavy-handed name Gestapo later on.
A lot of that happened in the first place because usually players were not allowed to have the same name. If Kevin was taken, then you had to do Kev1n or Kevln or Kevïn and so on. This becomes severe the more characters are created on any given server and thus the more names taken.Norfleet wrote: ↑ January 31st, 2026, 07:56I dunno if it would be practical or feasible to go THAT far, but certainly I have found that the quality of a community can be improved simply by outlawing certain patterns of naming, such as "random numbers in names" and "xXx_name_xXx" type ****, most of which can easily be squashed impartially with simple regexp tests at signup/chargen, so that you don't end up with selective enforcement and a heavy-handed name Gestapo later on.
Yeah, one-Steve-rule is a solved problem, though. There's no actual reason characters cannot have the same names, since you can just attach an account handle to them. Thus you can all be Spartacus.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ January 31st, 2026, 08:07A lot of that happened in the first place because usually players were not allowed to have the same name. The only small exception is GW2 people sometimes accept party invites but they remove you quickly even though you do same content
What's the point of MMOs? This is all so depressing.

Still a real shame the ******* ***** ruined THJ. It was fun unlike the bot-infested shithole EQ is now.
It depends on the MMO. If you play FF11 Horizon, people are conditioned from the get go to be social because you literally cannot solo past level 10 after the first hour or 2. You have to form or create a levelling party to continue. And you need a party to do almost anything in that game. People also need party members and thus use /sea to search the server for online players within a certain level bracket/job and whisper them, so you get used to getting whispers and invites out of the blue.Maledict wrote: ↑ February 2nd, 2026, 00:27>open MMO

With post WoW MMOs, you can spend a hundred+ hours reaching level cap having never made a friend, because you never needed to. You could reach level cap solo, be it doing solo questing or running LFG dungeons where you will never see those people again after 15 minutes. So people are conditioned to keep to themselves and not party together.

During Stormblood, I was levelling an alt job via dungeon roulette when I landed into an instance where there were 3 other very vocal people talking during the run. When the run ended, they invited me to their FC and I said "why not?" and joined. I then got pretty involved for a year. We formed a static (8 man raid group) and raided every week during ShB. We also had fun events like doing treasure maps, or gathering at the FC house to play bingo. It was pretty fun. But as usual, these things are temporary, lasting only so long as people's schedules line up. After a year, people moved, got new jobs, etc, and it couldn't keep up. It was fun.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ February 2nd, 2026, 04:48I didn't speak to a single person in FF14 despite playing it for 400 hours or somesuch
