The devs are positioning this as a Wartales/Battle Brothers-like game. It superficially looks very similar to Wartales, but the devs say the systems are different.
What they say you can do from in this overview video sounds impressively simulationist. But I was really disappointed by their previous game (Fort Triumph), so I'm skeptical.
