kcd is a cutscene game.H-H-Holmes wrote: ↑ October 18th, 2023, 19:21Finished elden ring. KCD is next, I guess. Tried it before but was put off early on by the combat. That was on the PS4. I'm confident I will find the game much more approachable and enjoyable on a PC.

It looks a whole heck of a lot better, and not only that but it includes a bevvy of extra content like the N64 version and that extra campaign I mentioned. Not to mention the improved enemy A.I, restoration of some cut animations for enemies, and even a hit marker which does add some much needed visual feedback for combat. It's pretty funny just how lacking the original version is by comparison. And it's a good thing they finally tied the storylines together, because literally every "Quake" game after the first one has barely anything to do with one another. The original Quake II was just generic, edgy Sci-Fi with bland graphics and even blander gameplay, Quake III was a multiplayer arena game that sort of mixed the two aesthetics, and Quake 4 was unremarkable save for that one brutal scene everyone remembers where your main character becomes a Strogg soldier.agentorange wrote: ↑ August 16th, 2023, 05:04That remaster is chomo ****. It's so gay how they have to tie the story of Quake 2 into Quake 1 like that because it all has to be a SHARED UNIVERSE OF LORE. Just leave stuff alone, it's a separate game that happened to share the title. This is a remaster of Quake 2 for dumbasses who hated Quake 2. The new graphics and lighting all look like ****. Also they forcibly updated the game on steam so now my copy of Quake 2 on there, that used to be around 400mb, is now 5.2gb, and the system requirements now say it requires Windows 10 lmao. And of course the inevitable issue with all these remasters and remakes which is that it becomes increasingly difficult to find an original copy of the game or any information regarding the original because all search results will now point to the remake/remaster. Seriously if you buy this **** you are a ****** who supports the pozzification of classic games.
It's a franchise that sorely lacked any percievable identity, but now that they made this change it feels like there is a legitimate story here. Don't equate the "shared universe" concept to capeshit, because it really is necessary for any long-term franchise. But if you're really that ****** about it, GOG allows you to download and preserve the original version. You don't have to stick with it if you don't want to. And on top of that, source ports will probably support all the remaster's content too, so it can be played natively on Linux.

KCD has a pretty rail-roaded tutorial that spans for like 5 hours, but after that it becomes very open. It still suffers from an identity crisis (at times the game struggles to decide whether it wants to be a cinematic action game like RDR, or an immersive RPG where you can take your own approach), but I would not call it a "cutscene game". Just power through the introduction, it ends once you arrive at Neuhof stables with a quest to find out who killed the horses.H-H-Holmes wrote: ↑ October 18th, 2023, 19:25That doesn't sound propitious.Emphyrio wrote: ↑ October 18th, 2023, 19:22kcd is a cutscene game.H-H-Holmes wrote: ↑ October 18th, 2023, 19:21Finished elden ring. I have been playing Pillars of Eternity. Finished the first one and WM not too long ago, currently starting a PoE2 playthrough.
Trying a druid subclass, Ancient. So far it's been fun, I set up the scripting so I immediately summon the sporelings and then quickly buff them so they have even more health and also regeneration. Then just cast one or two buffs on myself/party (there's a nice one that gives the same +5 constitution and regeneration to myself and others), and shapeshift to bear so I can have decent arm and start tearing people apart. Works great as long as I don't get taken down in a hail of arrows/bullets at the start of combat (only happens in ship to ship combat, and I'm very happy to see the game did away with all that **** with the new "board" button that immediately skips ahead to the fight). In ship combat I basically run and hide behind the steps, with eder and others providing cover, and do this same strategy.
Anyone have thoughts on ideal party? How do I learn to love monks so I can bring the drunken sidekick and make Xoti into something other than a priestess? Right now I'm rolling around with Paladin/Fighter Pallegina, Rogue/Fighter Eder, priestess Xoti, and... the last one gets rotated depending on quest. I have the blue midget barbarian because I'm dealing with the pirate related quests. But I'm inclined to kick him soon for the other druid so I can do the poverty district neketaka questline, and then I'll kick that guy so I can find bring my fellow white that wends sidekick (I'm white that wends origin because Rymrgand content is great).
Also, having played PoE 1 to completion I am appreciating a lot of PoE2 content that I didn't previously understand. Anyone who wants to chat about the original PoE should join me tomorrow, will be hosting a discussion. Hopefully we can present everything good about the original and save everyone the bother of playing it. I'm a big fan of PoE2, but the original has too many weakness for that much content/that many hours of gameplay.
Finished Sigma 1 and 2 on both normal and hard
Finished NGB and NG2 on normal
Taking a small break from those games for a bit and playing Tomb Raider Anniversary, it's pretty decent.
Gonna write a bit more probably about NG once I finish at least Sigma 1 on Master Ninja, having the time of my life with those games.
Why do you have more playthroughts in Sigma 1 over NGB, the Rachel sections are awful and NGB has better hard mode.junior wrote: ↑ October 20th, 2023, 11:42Been playing 3d Ninja Gaiden games for past couple of weeks

I put up with playing on an emulator just get a better perspective and imo at least for normal casual playthrough sigma isn't that much inferior.
Rachel sections aren't that bad, her stages are short enough to not bother me at all, she also has a different fun playstyle, they it in sigma 2 though by giving her ability to wall run.
On the other hand keeping each chick chapter to only one was probably a good decision, eh, for every decent change devs made in sigma they also made a bad one sadly.
I don’t know but I don’t care and I don’t know cuz I don’t care
And I don’t know what’s out there or what comes next or why I’m scared

Fair enough, but the differences between NGB and Sigma become more noticeable on higher difficulties. On hard mode in NGB, you start off with the nunchucks which makes them actually useful since you normally get the basic ones after the airship segment while in Sigma you're always stuck with just the katana on higher difficulties. I also don't know if they fixed this in the PC version but on PS3 there were sometimes loading screens in the middle of combat which was infuriating when the Xbox version doesn't have that problem.junior wrote: ↑ October 20th, 2023, 19:56Playing on an emulator and it loves to crash and corrupt my savefilesMaggot wrote: ↑ October 20th, 2023, 19:24Why do you have more playthroughts in Sigma 1 over NGB, the Rachel sections are awful and NGB has better hard mode.junior wrote: ↑ October 20th, 2023, 11:42Been playing 3d Ninja Gaiden games for past couple of weeks

that sounds like it would make the early game harder in sigma(above normal)Maggot wrote: ↑ October 20th, 2023, 21:32Read more ...

afaik the PC version of Sigma 1 has combined vita and ps3Maggot wrote: ↑ October 20th, 2023, 21:32I also don't know if they fixed this in the PC version but on PS3 there were sometimes loading screens in the middle of combat which was infuriating when the Xbox version doesn't have that problem.
there are certain spots where you get ~5sec loading screen in the middle of the level, it mostly happens in Tairon
doesn't happen in the middle of the combat out of nowhere though
the only example where it's the case that i can think of is when you return to the city after military takes over you go around the corner into a loading screen and might end up in the middle of few enemies if you dont know about it beforehand
overall i dont think loading screens are that bothersome because i didn't even notice that sigma has them and black doesn't
if there are some legit complains i'd have about sigma is that they really change to look of the game to more grey and dull, you can turn off the bloom but it makes the game look super flat
the other change that is kinda baffling to me is the backflip(give u less iframes) while in black all rolls are consistant
downward jumping attack is extremey OP(it's even more OP for rachel because it has a massive hitbox) in sigma while in black its just a normal helm splitter
another massive oversight(or dumb change) is how you can't hit awakaned almas bug legs in sigma like you can in black making you 100% reliant on rng of her not blocking your flying swallow

This is cool but I forgot most of the story now. I think PoE 1 had better combat than Deadfire though.

Genshin and Honkai are the two games I have been booting up day after day.
The last spot really depends on my mood.
This week I decided to pick my drawing tablet again.
I will probably come back to Guild Wars 2 once new weapon options for each class drop.
Once I get bored with GW2, and satisfy my BG3 cravings, I will pick up Alice: Madness Returns again after 8 years.
Sometimes my boyfriend and I play Dawn of War, Stellaris, or V Rising together.

I tried Genshin when it came out, but the Adventure Rank grind to reach the next drip of cutscenes (with mediocre English voice acting) was too much. I found the combat to be tedious. You only have one character on the field instead of your whole party and mobs were HP sponges, and there were lots of mobs wherever you go so much of my playtime was spent in pointless, drawn out battles. I liked the lighting and the cloud effects in skybox, but otherwise I would rather player a real JRPG. Or Granblue Fantasy. At least in the game there wasn't a grind to go through the story, the game was very generous so I got 400+ characters without having to grind or pay a center and was able to build full teams of favorite characters, and I enjoyed the character building and combat.Slavic Sorcerer wrote: ↑ October 25th, 2023, 11:29>Wake up

I heard Genshin added player housing. How is that? Also, how is the co-op gameplay? Seems like the game would be more fun with multiple characters fighting than just one.
From what I've heard about Secrets of the Osbcure, the weapon mastery feature sounds lackluster. Apparently you don't have to complete a challenge or a questline or do anything; you just talk to an NPC and you can now magically equip any weapon.Slavic Sorcerer wrote: ↑ October 25th, 2023, 11:29I will probably come back to Guild Wars 2 once new weapon options for each class drop.

I was hooked, and eventually left alone cause they got bored as well.
What really hooked me in was Hydro element.
I'm a sucker for water magic - to the point I will spend hours playing a mediocre game or a chinesse 12 years old MMO just because it allows me to use water spells.
And I ain't talking about "water magic" but composed of ice-themed spells
Like, actual water
Genshin gave me what I've been looking for for years
Combat and elemental reactions improved after introducing Dendro, the final element. Unfortunately some were powercrept by it
Housing is okay. It's one way to earn friendship with characters you've pulled much faster, along with other benefits.
Gladly you can just throw random **** in there and still have benefits. You don't have to roll out Home Makeover
Kinda yes, but also no. You have to complete the introduction to the story.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2023, 02:24From what I've heard about Secrets of the Osbcure, the weapon mastery feature sounds lackluster. It has a good hook into it, I like eldritch themes. but GW2 storywriters never impressed me enough to throw everything out the window and rush their story
TBH I'm glad it was so early. Secrets of the Obscure was out at the same time as Baldur's Gate 3, and I just wanted to mix and match weapons on my characters for 30 minutes, and go back to BG3
I would rip my hair out if I had to complete the whole story for it
You can equip elite spec's weapon without said elite spec.
For example you can have a Mirage and use a shield like Chronomancer would in one hand, and dagger in the other like Virtuosso.
In this scenario, your core mechanics are that of a Mirage, so neither your shield nor dagger get the benefits
But you cannot use shortbows, longbows, hammers etc, cause those weapons are neither Mesmer's core weapons, nor elite spec's for Mesmer
So there are some limitations there
They are expanding the weapon options. Only from official announcement I know Mesmer gets rifle - but since they have strong anti-leak policy, there is nothing more to be seen for now
