We have a couple threads for games Todd murdered, but I wanted another one. Share your thoughts on this tradmarked franchise. About the only thing I liked in 2 was Vault City and the VaultTec plan to repopulate earth. 1 is goat. NV is only saved by House and Elijah.

There's a tv show, called Fallout by Todd Howard of Bethesda Games, that is setting up Fallout 5. This game will allegedly take place in San Francisco, because Fallout needs more old world ********. It needs to be the most boring 2-bit wasteland forever.

Fallout Sonora is, much like Archolos to the Gothic games, a fanmade game that surpasses the originals in many ways. Enjoyed it a lot.

Unity ending is the canonical ending of this series. Everything after is a mod.

It has a good hook, I just got distracted after Garage City. I liked starting as a ****** more than a tribal. I quite hate all of the tribal stuff.

Bethesda surely didn't and still don't understand Fallout. Why the hell people live in garbage towns instead of rebuilding them like 1 and 2. The only ones i remember that had some sort of reconstruction are Megaton, main hub of New Vegas and Diamond city, but there is still garbage around, why would they live like that.
And to not have a car or something similar like 2 is outrageous even if it was easier to implement it in a Crpg.

Could be ********, but I got the impression that Beforetimes America was practicing Roman religion, and Christianity was a minor religion. I don't remember Caesar's backstory, how all the romaboo started, but Poseidon Oil, Helios, the colossal architecture of cities, etc left me the impression that the US was heavily neo-classical in spirit.

Yes, I know those are Greek names, but anyway. My point's more that the old world had colossal, neo classical design.

It's Art Deco mostly. It's supposed to, as far as I understand, be a juxtaposition.

The glamour, prowess and hope of (our) 20's that never ended, contrasted by nuclear devastation. It's a sort of irony.

As for Caesar, I think he found some books on Rome and decided it sounded cool (as all red blooded men do).

Something that always bothered me about Caesar's Legion is its completely nonsensical policies or traditions that do not align with its goals whatsoever.

They treat women like animals during a period where women are key to maintaining populations for the legions continued war campaigns. At the very least, enslaved women wouldn't be so poorly mishandled, but instead given to lower rank soldiers as rewards for continued conquest. I'm also not aware of any exclusive citizenship model that Caesar promotes within the Legion, which is what elevated Romans from the barbarians and also offered substantial benefits. People don't just fight for no reason, if there isn't a stable and desirable society to fall back onto, people will simply find another to fight for or seize power and create it themselves. You can't have Pax Romana when there's no ******* Rome.

He apparently found enough to understand the core idea of Pax Romana and other niche parts but not the most obvious fundamentals of a historical empire? Obsidian knew what they were doing.

I'm fairly sure Legion territory isn't even that bad for women or civilians.

The Legion in FONV is the bleeding edge. You see a band of tribals carrying out Caesar's will. They're not worrying about civilisation.

As for women generally? History shows they are subservient to power. There are no men to object because just like Assyria, Caesar carries out deportation to stop tribal complaints.

They treat subjects like animals - war captures, slaves, etc. Legion territory itself has free citizens, law, and order. They're more restrictive to women's rights than men but not every non-Legionary is a battered slave.

The Legion in New Vegas isn't the whole of them, it's the frontline. Their capital is in Flagstaff with all their territory covering a lot of the Four Corner states. Legion territory is said to be remarkably safe despite the more authoritarian governance. No raiders on the trade routes, no drugs or alcohol in cities leading to places like New Reno, and no Brahmin Barons to manipulate power from the government. Flagstaff is their Rome, but they're not in a Pax Romana as of New Vegas, that's their whole goal. Vegas is their desired Rome with the conquest of California leading to their Pax Romana.

Its slapped together by wokies. Needed more time in the oven. Vault City was a better example of Rome. I think VaultTek needed more love, there's a couple good ideas what to do with them, that should have been developed, so that the wasteland wouldn't be so boring. Needs more Gamma World, less Mad Max with zanny hijinks.

"But the earth has not yet healed and the scars are not yet forgotten" tell me Bethesdout is a spiritual sequel to this. I take issue with almost everything in New Vegas, but they ADVANCED the plot in that game with House, while closing a few stories. ******* 3 and 4 did what exactly?

Eat a bag of dicks.

One of the "themes" in Fallout 2 was exploring how various groups of mutants had evolved.
There were the mole rats just evolving full sapience, but still struggling with their instincts.
There were the cave dwellers living near the farming community.
The town with the super mutants trying to live normally.
There were the Wanamingos, who were genocided due to their violence.

Yes, I know the Wanamingos were also found on the freighter in San Francisco.
I discount ALL of San Francisco, because it's all stupid and aometimes silly.
The Shi with their perfect society and the shop selling every high-tech item in the game. The Hubologists which are just a silly diversion. The ship with the Wanamingos.
ALL if it could and should be cut from the game and replaced with something else.

While we're at it, I was not fond of New Reno either. Not that it wasn't well done enough. I just don't see how a crime city could function in the wasteland.
And it's like that silly original Star Trek episode where they're imitating 1920's American gansters... ugh. I would make them slavers instead of a "sin city".

But a lot of Fallout 2 isn't thought out. Why would you mine anything? There's all the junk you want laying around in big heaps. you just have to smelt and refine it.

Actually, the more I think about it, the less I like about the things in Fallout 2.
For example, I don't like the tribal village as the starting place.
I also don't like how Vault City was handled. It's both too isolated and too open at the same time. They should have committed to xenophobia or empire-building.

There are things I didn't like about Fallout. Like The Master being a biological swarm AND a technological merger as well, for example. The bio-merging was enough and they should have played more on that.
But, in general, they're minor nitpicks. It's the only game in the whole series I really respect.

True. It's just a horde and their servant towns and their slaves.
It's not really Roman.

There was going to be a race of cute widdle racoon people escaped from the labs in The Glow, but they got dummied out.

There were going to be gator men in Florida because of the mutant GECK. I have no idea what Bethesderp is going to do about any of that information. All I know is the ******* who made Fallout Florida are completely ignoring the information in the bible because you can't expect ******* who like Fallout 3 and 4 to know anything about TRUE and HONEST Fallout.

I liked the gameplay of Fallout 4, but not the story.
I enjoyed the gameplay of Fallout 76 (I've joined after many updates, idk how it played on release), but the story was girlboss, but not really there ebough to bother anyone.

I admittedly dislike the Fallout visuals. I have no nostalgia for the USA of old, as I'm a Europeon.

The Americana suited the story, but without the Enclave, its overstayed. Speaking of evolution, the evolution of that 50s-60s nostalgia is space travel. It had to be done, to complete the story correctly, and open a new chapter. I'm not saying future fallouts needed to be space games, but that decade culminated in the moon landings, so a civilization rediscovering space flight had to close the Fallout story. Setting aside the tech vs magic theme, Arcanum is otherwise closer to what a Fallout 4 should have been.
