Yes, and if he didn't have magic glowies, you wouldn't have the slightest idea what class he was supposed to be.

I will note that I prefer the pointy hat to be used more sparingly. It becomes rather on the nose when a setting has an abundance of magic users and they all wear the same style of hat. In any serious setting it should be an unofficial "badge of office" because of its historical associations and not just a fashion choice.

I've wanted to see depictions of high medieval battlemages for a while, as in the classic tabard, mail, and greathelm integrated with a robe and a conical hat/hood. I think the design has good potential, although I'm not an artist.

Sometimes that can be the point. The wizard doesn't always want to reveal himself.

Hoods are for hooting in da hood.
Here, in HQ, we're all for Christmas hats.

If being incognito is the goal, wearing the Hood of Edgelordism is right up there with the Trenchcoat and Fedora of Inconspicuousness.

The hat will keep you cooler in the sun and drier in the rain because of its wide brim.
Not to mention that even if they have the Moon People on their side, if you have a lovely hat, it will shield you from their fearsome gaze.

Can a woman wear a wizard hat? Or does it transmute into a witch's hat?

Women are magic users by nature, since they are crafty liars and wear all kinds of makeup and win a lot by trickery.

I think Eskarina Smith did.
