Does Bannerlord has a campaign that is not perfunctory and actually finishable? I just get bored playing these kind of sandbox games "making my own adventure", feel like wasting my time.

You ever stop and actually look at textures in a sci-fi video game?
Just a buncha nothing
Can anyone actually tell what the textures on the walls are supposed to be?

My guess is just some kind of abstract paneling, but why?
Really makes you think!
They could also just be byproducts of modular production—similar to linkin logs or legos. Snap them together to taste, voila! spaceship!
Yes, but why would wall panels look like that?
We have those irl, they just snap in place

I haven't found any mentions of Fly Knight.

I've enjoyed the game. The final boss was meh, but everything else was grand. Worth its small price!

It reminded me of a banger from my childhood: Sherwood Dungeon

It has a fishing I actually enjoyed for once

Faggy reason not to play a good game.

Also, in the game you're born without wings. You don't even understand the pain of the loss of your wings of those who were born with them. So you're not even a fly-fly. You're flyless.

Because they're tainted by British idea that lions are cool.
And Brits got tainted because of Geoffrey Plantagenet.
And he got tainted because
the Tribe of Judah was symbolized by a Lion, representing power, royalty, and leadership, a tradition originating from Jacob's blessing in Genesis, ultimately identifying Jesus as the prophesied "Lion of the Tribe of Judah," the conquering King from the lineage of David

a lighting mod that attempts to replicate the 2014 concept showcase
black armour for geralt
high definition reworked project
blood sword trails
more intense sign fx mod
and some other stuff

theres also a mod which makes city lights appear from across the map.

think i actually have like 60+ mods in total.
running on linux, just using steam proton.
ran script merger via steam proton too it worked fine

Nice thing about MMOs you won't really find elsewhere is a massive open-world with a bunch of different cultures etc., Usually requires years of constant content addition, no singleplayer games do that.

I think a huge reason is that MMOs commonly have multiple different starting nations which are far apart from each other, and each nation gets a lot of unique stuff built around it. In WoW, if you start as a human in Elwynn Forst, then there are troggs and gnolls and Defias Brotherhood nearby. But if you start in Mulgore then there are goblin miners, evil centaur clans, quillboar, etc. If you start in Limsa Lominsa then there are rogue pirate crews, Sahagin broods, Kobold legions, and ancient cursed Tomberries nearby. But if you start in Gridania then there are catgirl bandits, mischievous sylphs, and evil Ixali nearby. Etc. As opposed to singleplayer RPGs where often there might be several different racial options but you always start in the place, with the same stuff nearby.

As you head into expansions, there are fewer to no new starting nations, and thus less new stuff. TBC only introduced two new starting nations, so you see stuff around Silvermoon and the Exodar. But it's still less stuff compared to Vanilla which had 4 starting nations. But then you get into the later expacs that don't even introduce new races or starter nations, and there is just far less new stuff introduced.

In singleplayer games sold for a one time $60 purchase, it doesn't make that much sense to invest all of this stuff building all of these other nations or enemy factions that most people only making one playthrough starting in one nation will never see. But with MMOs where you are trying to retain people, then it becomes more worthwhile because it might get them more deeply invested and stay for longer, paying $210+ per year for years on end.

WoW, other than the base game, tended to be really bad at it. Crazy how much of their development time was spent on high-end content only seen by a small % of the playerbase.
When I wrote that I was actually thinking of EQ2. But there's a handful of long-running games like that now which have a ton of content to explore. Nothing else really matches the feeling of a fleshed out world, I don't think an offline game could, it's just the result of circumstances.

Maybe gacha games will do what offline games couldn't by being able to fund continuous development while disregarding the 'bad' parts of the MMO model

Tried a game demo called final sentence. It's a battle royale game made in ue5 where you have to type stuff without making mistakes or you get shot. If you type fastest you win and everyone else gets shot. Kind of fun but got bored after 5 minutes. What was the crazy part was that it ran at 30 FPS on max settings. If you watch gameplay it is so dumb. a game like this should be getting 200fps easy. Only ue5 could make a word typing game run at 30fps

Gachas are the closest we have gotten to more MMO-esque worlds but even then the immersive feel is not as palpable.
  • Unlike MMOs where you could choose to start in a different nation or be a part of a different faction, in gachas you are almost always starting in one nation you can't pick, and you usually have no say in which faction you get to work for (except for Where Winds Meet but that's a little hard to categorize being a fusion Mihoyo styled gacha and MMO).
  • The Mihoyo-style big 3D gachas have one "city" (a glorified town) per nation per year and then a small handful of tiny satellite hamlets. Stormwind was too small (it's a kingdom, but the Wrynn family is the only one with any land. There are no baronies or counties or other fiefs ruled by other lords, etc) but at least it had a few other towns like Westfall, Goldshire, Darkshire, and Lakeshire. I think maybe the environment design of the new expansion country's land is an issue here since it is usually shaped as a valley where you can usually see the central city from almost anywhere in the nation, so you don't feel like you are journeying through a big country. Imagine if instead of having to hike through several forests and mountains to reach Lakeshire, Lakeshire was instead just on the edge of a valley and you could see Stormwind at the center.
  • A lot of the immersive feel of MMO worlds is that there are other players in it representing other adventurers, other respected leaders, merchants, and warriors of the enemy faction on the prowl invading your territory and you have to be vigilant for them. In oldschool MMOs where you cannot easily get a bazillion pieces of drop gear or you can shoot unlimited arrows, you have to go to town and trade with other people or engage with the player economy at the auction house to buy gear, buy arrows to shoot, etc. So it feels like you are in a simulation of a fantasy world. In gachas there are no other players (excepting WWM) to make the world feel more alive or to make the enemies feel more real than just dumb mobs patrolling in a small radius, and there is no economy to engage with.
However, a neat thing about the worlds of Genshin and WuWa is that they went the LotRO route of having one open world that they are continuously expanding and stitching new nations and zones onto. As opposed to other MMOs where their expansion lands were added as disconnected instances. If you boot up WoW now, you can't see any new cities or landmasses added from Stormwind. The Eastern Kingdoms remains almost exactly the same as it was twenty years ago. But if you start Genshin, you can climb up the hill next to beach where you begin the game and you can see the 4th expansion land of Fontaine from right across the sea, and then the cliffs of the fifth land Natlan behind that in the far distance, and a placeholder of the looming enemy empire and final originally planned land of Sneznhaya that will be added later this year. Imagine if you could have seen Northrend and maybe ICC from Stormwind or the EK in vanilla.
