RPG-7 was designed around permadeath. You cannot, in fact, play it any other way, as there is no savescumming in RPG-7.Lich wrote: ↑ December 16th, 2025, 05:49Which RPG games were designed around permadeath? Not games with permadeatth added as an afterthought.
Wrong, here's a double mounted RPG-7 which gives you one possible save load to scum your way through.Norfleet wrote: ↑ December 16th, 2025, 13:05RPG-7 was designed around permadeath. About this topic, I don't think many games are designed for that, it's a very niche thing these days. The games mentioned so far aren't even RPGs for the most part (except Planescape, and that doesn't count either)
If you count Xcom, which I don't, you can add to the list most of the JRPG strategy games that have permadeath (some fire emblems, some FF tactics, etc).
But I don't count any of these games as RPGs.
Also, but characters need to be resurrected in Wizardry, otherwise they stay dead, in some games even you can lose them forever (which ******* sucks, but hey that's what you get for ******* around).
Play this is you're interested:

It's overally the best one besides the 8, and if you feel brave, try that one too. It won't get as good as that.

btw a bit off topic, sorry, let me know if there's a better place to post this one @rusty_shackleford
But is there a way to resize images once posted? It looks pretty bad when they get on full size and I wouldn't like to clutter the threat with big oversized pics.

That's just a player multiboxing. But if you die in RPG-7, you die in real life, so it's still permadeath.jdcp wrote: ↑ December 16th, 2025, 13:54Wrong, here's a double mounted RPG-7 which gives you one possible save load to scum your way through.

Svarog's Dream
You are a spirit sent to inhabit the body of a living person in the world by God of the underworld and get a choice of character who you can build around. When you die, your spirit is sent back to the underworld and you have to take over another body (and keeps going). If you die a lot, there are some good acknowledgements of that and each death also affects the world. It's a no save scumming game and designed around the permadeath (despite there being a difficulty option to take that off, which isn't worth it). Have a review of it on the codex if that sounds interesting to you.
