Bromance 1.11 — Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Post by campersinc »

The relationship between Henry of Skalitz and Hans Capon is one of the narrative pillars to KCD2's story. Both their individual character progression, and their master-servant-friend dynamic are central to the main plot. Unfortunately, a great deal of this character progression and dynamic is easy to miss, since it's soft-locked behind their romance.

This mod removes romance dialogue icons in order for players to organically select dialogue based upon how they perceive Henry's choice to be. Thus, this mod allows role-playing Henry and Hans' relationship as close brothers-in-arms, deepening their relationship (without any physical intimacy), and promotes context-free player interpretation of their dialogue. In other words, it makes possible a Bromance.

Key Changes Summary:
- No icons that telegraph dialogue choice.
- Back in the Saddle quest ui dialogue adjusted to match Henry's actual response.
- Henry and Hans are never shown to be physically intimate.
- This mod is best used on a new save, or save prior to quest For Whom The Bell Tolls.

Compatibility:
- Not PTF
- Not compatible with mods editing Quest files governing Hans and Henry dialogue.

Installation: Unzip and place mod folder in C:\ ... \KingdomComeDeliverance2\Mods.

Hello! I'm gonna be starting a KCD2 playthrough with this mod but I wanted to ask....

You mention taking away the romance dialogue icons in the mod description but does that remove actually triggering a romance from being logged in the save file even with the removed intimacy scene with Hans? I only ask because I would like to get the ending with
► Show Spoiler
in order to get that ending.

I hope that made sense. Thanks in advance for any clarification you can provide. Can't wait to try this mod out! :D

Unless you actually have sex with Hans, or Rosa, or Katherine, the game doesn't flag them as your romance option in the epilogue (as far as I'm aware). And the secret ending is for Theresa, not Bianca, cause Bianca died during the prior game's prologue.

Just use this mod, and you don't have to worry about NOT getting Theresa ending.

There's also an older mod, "Still Faithful", I think it's called, and it does the same thing but finding it is difficult. I think it's on DEG Mods, but that site is difficult to navigate or search so, good luck.

As a follow-up, since in case you're wondering why I even made the mod the way I did - as opposed to what Hetero Henry did, just removing the dialogue altogether. In my opinion, the dialogue between Henry and Hans can be read as romantic - or - as between two close friends - and it's very well-written.

For instance, behind the first romance dialogue Hans sheepishly apologizes for his behavior and Henry responds "You can rely on me, always." And later in the dialogue, Hans admits "At first I thought they assigned you to me as a punishment, but now you're my closest friend." These sort of lines (and there are many) should have never been exclusive to romance, they should have been part of the story. So, that's what I did, and that's why I made the mod.

Which is why I so excited to find your mod! KCD2 is far from the first RPG that hides perfectly friendly dialogue behind a romance wall. And I find it irritating each and every time I see it done. I just finished a Mass Effect trilogy playthrough and it always bothered me that in ME1 especially you couldn't get to know some of your companions better without triggering their romance paths. And the dialogue you had with them wasn't even romantic!! And back then, games weren't putting hearts next to "romantic" dialogue. So years later, people today are still playing Mass Effect 1 and asking how NOT to trigger a romance. Sorry, everyone, you can't ask about Asari culture, or Liara's mother, or Asari breeding habits without her taking it completely the wrong way. Yes, you can chalk it up to her naivety, but STILL. That's a lot of really great dialogue you won't be getting simply because you don't wanna risk romancing her! Ridiculous...

ANYWAY rant over lol! I loved Henry and Hans' bromance that was established in the first game and I was really looking forward to seeing that FRIENDSHIP grow in KCD2. So thank you for giving us that option!
