Atre: Dominance Wars

Post by The_Mask »

Foreword

I have been accused that I do not introduce the games that I paste here, but English is not my first language and I'm not very bright, and so I thought that I was doing everybody a favor by not subjecting you to my thoughts. As such what you're going to get is a pros and cons blurb that is highly subjective and hopefully you're fine with that.

Also... I have taken liberties in editing this Kickstarter's page, because it didn't make sense to me the way it was presented on its web page. Hopefully you will appreciate my efforts.

That being said, introducing:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ir ... nance-wars

Pros:

  • What seems to be a fun 4X title with monsters, sparkles and magic
  • White people making things
  • Team is 99% men and the only woman in the team is not allowed to code, she's just in charge of spending money, which is a thing women are good at
  • Team has made 1 other title that wasn't a horrendous flop
  • Team seems to have worked on this project for a while and they just want to push over the finish line
  • 1 guy sporting glorious mutton chops

Cons:

  • RPG elements seem to be just a gimmick to get our crowd baited in
  • Too many sparkles for my taste when it comes to the humans
  • Project seems to have originally been geared as an MMO, which is usually not a good sign

Enjoy heavily edited preview of their Kickstarter page below!

Mediocre or bad games can still have parts that are good.

It has a steam page with a demo.

Someone in a Kohan group I'm in (which it's been compared to) tried it and said it's not in a good state right now.

Can you elaborate as to why? Did your friend give you any specific reasons?

It's very underbaked apparently and way too soon to show off. The prologue is available to play amd there's just not very much you can do. Too bare boned.

Was the demo before or after the kickstarter finished?

This post has received the Kalarion Seal of Approval TM. Remember, if the seal isn't present, it's probably malware! Don't read unapproved posts, boys and girls!

At first I panicked thinking they have a ****** dev but then I realized he just got his photo taken in shade or something

What was/were their previous games? This seems kinda interesting, I gave up on Kickstarter stuff a long time ago but I've been jonesing for a new 4X to play that's decent.

New update below.

What have we been working on in the meantime?
  • We've been polishing the UI a lot, and started working on some new units, as well as replaced Menar Um starting unit with more appropriate one.
  • new units that will be added (Dor Wudar, Heg Haadar, Eroler)
  • battlefield is active for Prologue only for now
Image

Image

More battlefields!
  • we have also made 3 different battlefield (1 for each corresponding magical plane)
Image

New tier 2 units that are coming
  • Dor(Organized) Wudar - For centuries the Gymnasiums of Dor Helen have produced only the most disciplined and obedient soldiers.
A unit that specializes in fighting burrowers.
  • Eroler is a melee mounted unit, we are still not 100% sure which path we will take with this one but Eroleks definitely need some kind of melee defense in order for them to keep up with other races.
  • We've also started working on Heg'Haadar, a melee unit that charges to the frontline after throwing fireballs to the unfortunate enemy units on the other side.

Heg(Despised) Haadar - The Heg Harab of Shak-Sileth first used ritual practices of self-mutilation and self-cannibalism found disgusting by today's standards.
Image

Subtle but important
  • We managed to optimize trees in the game so that it uses 90% less resources, our artists did some dark magic, and by doing that we also removed most of the flickeding on FXAA antialisting
  • Bright is bad, and the new tree is the middle one, basically the brighter the colors are the more expensive it is
  • On multiple fronts we are working on making this game accessible to as much people as possible (specially since RAM prices are going up now)
Image

Artifacts
  • Artifacts can now be found on the map and their level will be similiar to your avatar level, strategize when you want to pick them up!
  • You can also destroy artifacts for mana
Image

Campaign
  • campaign is actively being developed
  • we've shortened Prologue and improved overall pace as well as introduced manual battles ins it, if you haven't played it I definitely recommend you to try it, update for backers who have already have the key will be deployed tomorrow at 8 CEST time.

So is this just an off-brand Total War Warhammer?

Hello everyone!

The Game
After extensive testing and our players feedback, we have decided that we want to grow this game through our community feedback. We are announcing that we are transitioning from full launch to EARLY ACCESS.

Moving the release to Early Access does not mean we're putting less effort in this game. On the contrary, it means that we feel this game has a lot more potential that can only be achieved by working with our community. We have already released one early access game before, The Red Solstice, and by listening to player feedback, it became a huge success for us. We want to do the same with Atre: Dominance Wars.

We believe we have a solid game, but we also believe that with constant player feedback and additional features that we plan to develop, it will transition into a much better game.

Here's what you can expect in EARLY ACCESS:

Content
Three levels of Story Campaign
Skirmish solo play / saving and loading is enabled
Play with up to 32 players online / hotjoin or leave game as you please
Map editor
All of this is sure to enable minimal of 20 hours of content, and if you really want to dig into Skirmish and get all the achievements, it will be much much more.

Game modes
Campaign - You play as a Sorcerer who needs to find his throne. These 3 levels introduce you to the lore, and teach basic game mechanics. First 2 levels are focused on your hero, third level is focused on battling 1 on 1 vs first rival elder, with additional tool tips, hints and tutorials. All of this should give you at least 8h of gameplay, and prepare you nicely to dig into the complexity of Skirmish battles.
Skirmish - Can be played up to 32 elders/players. Customise your Elder, choose your avatars. Research and cast over 80 spells across 4 factions, including 7 god spells. Play with over 22 different units on procedurally generated maps!

Game length for Skirmish can vary between 1 to 5 hours (or more, depending on your play style, map size and game speed).

For new players or players who like to have time for their actions or like to play it more "chill", we recommend setting day speed to "5 seconds". For players who like more faster RTS experience, you can go for "4 seconds" days.

There are manual battles, and you can play them in both campaign and skirmish. Due to nature of Multiplayer and battles being TURN-BASED, manual battles are disabled for Multiplayer sessions.
We truly hope that you will be satisfied with our game and support us into developing, our plan to stay in Early Access is no longer than 1 year, in which we plan to polish it, react to feedback, add features so that the game will launch with full story campaign.

Few days after the release we will post a roadmap so you know what to expect and when. Our general plan is to patch any hotfixes on our release if needed, and then to patch the game once every week, with bigger update coming at the start of each next month.

Thank you for your support so far and see you on the release! It would be nice to get some 32 multiplayer games going.
