Would spiderman miles morales count? Hes wearing a mask though
Watch dog 2 might qualify as well, the cover has two other people and the protagonist has his back turned
Can't think of more tbh
These are pretty interesting candidates.
Miles Morales being masked means that parents wouldn't know it's a black necessarily when buying their kids' game so I hesitate to count it. The Hispanic last name is definitely a curve ball too but not a deal breaker. The sales were also significantly less than the other two games in the series IIRC, but that doesn't necessarily disqualify it. Will have to think about it. I'm inclined towards not counting it since the laymen would have no indication that it's a black, so it seems like cheating.
Watchdogs 2 performed significantly worse than its predecessor (According to Ubisoft it sold 10 million copies after 4 years while the first one sold 8 million copies in it's first year alone).
But it did sell pretty well, so I guess it could qualify based on sales. But are we sure that's even a black guy? That could easily be any number of ethnicities, can barely even see him. I guess the frizzy hair is black coded. Will have to think on it. Open to opinions.
Maybe the key to selling a game with a black on the cover is to make it really hard to tell that it's a black?
