Game does have some solid writing and animation but it feels more like some interactive show netflix has tried to do. Story and feels wise it's like a mix between Invincible-Archer-Brooklyn99. The millennial humour of mid 00s comedy shows is quite heavy but I dig it.
There's also a gay character in your team but being gay isn't his personality luckily, his personality is being a gaped ******* which adds more flavor, you only find out his background and image through some voice lines you might not even get depending on what you pick. Steam discussions are full of furries and gays sperging out because romance options are only from a straight white male MC perspective which is based af, noone aside from two characters are love interests.
Game costs quite a bit though for a story game with I guess 10h content total once everything is out.
Acrux wrote: ↑ November 9th, 2025, 13:14I've never heard of it!WhiteShark wrote: ↑ November 9th, 2025, 12:36I'm playing this:
It's a tactics RPG + deckbuilder. Each character has a customizable deck of actions from which a new hand is drawn every turn. Characters can equip cards native to another character, but there's a limit on how many that increases with level.
Strong points:Weak points:
- The game is very challenging on nightmare difficulty
- The art is cute (in-game dialogue sprites are much better than the store art)
- Customization feels deep; options arise from all the equipment and cards you find; many pieces of equipment are rules-changers and not just stat-sticks
- Merchants buy your items for full price and you can always buy them back, so you're free to experiment with equipment setups
- No random encounters; every fight is handcrafted
- EXP is evenly shared across all PCs (even uncollected ones), no micromanaging necessary
@Acrux, have you looked at this game? I'm really enjoying it.
- Exploration is just opening all the chests and breaking all the breakables in each area
- There are areas with traps that require some timing, but there are no puzzles nor special interactions with the environment (so far)
- Plot doesn't feel very serious
- The whole world scales to the party's level
- There's lots of mechanical enemy variety, but, visually, I have yet to fight anything that wasn't a pillow (antagonist race)
I just finished the game on nightmare w/out permadeath after ~40 hours. In retrospect, permadeath was probably doable, but this game is clearly not meant for it; it doesn't shower you with extra characters the way a Fire Emblem would.
I criticized the level scaling, but I think it actually works decently in this game. Some builds work much better at certain stat thresholds, so the enemy scaling means you frequently have to switch up your builds to stay ahead of the curve. There's also a hard limit on the number of stat-stick items, so past a certain level you really have to start making use of the variety of effects-items to keep up.
The final boss was very good. Challenging, long, and involved. My first attempt made it to the final stage, but my mage ran out of MP and I couldn't keep up. Normally each character resets to 5 MP at the beginning of each round, but I had been using an item that sets starting MP to 50 but with no recovery. It had worked pretty well in previous fights because it allowed her to do about 2.5 huge bursts, which was enough for regular battles, but it wasn't suited for the marathon of a final boss. I managed to win on my second serious attempt, but there were a number of aborted trial runs between those two in which I tested various builds and mechanics.
The game does have slightly more of a plot than it seems at first, emphasis on slightly. I did end up enjoying what little there was, but the gameplay did the heavy lifting.
If any of that sounds fun to you, I highly recommend it. @J1M, maybe this is your sort of game? The tactics and character-building are fun.
I'm waiting on the last episodes to be released before deciding if I'm buying it or not in case they pull a bait-and-switch and shove in some last-minute woke in it, but from everything I've seen and heard about it, I'm pleasantly surprised at how little of "tHe MeSsAgE" there seems to be in this game. In itself though, it's still a sad statement that it's such a low bar for a piece of media to have to clear in the first place.Rumbles wrote: ↑ November 10th, 2025, 04:22Played through Dispatch up until waiting for next week's release (it's an episodic telltale game, last two episodes come next week). I'm surprised that it isn't pozzed to hell considering the people involved, actually quite tongue-in-cheek about all the oversaturation of pander games on the market. One of the side characters you meet in ep2 will try to find words to be politically and socially correct about a trivial comparison (I don't wanna spoil it too much but might make a review about the game in the forum actually). My problem with it is one of the "strong independent" female leads who has almost no content and is a love interest, but there is like nothing about her character at all, and the fact the game has fake choices that mostly lead to different things your MC say rather than having different gameplay branches.

Although, I'm almost certain that with all of the attention it's gotten online since its release, any "season 2" that they make (which AdHoc has stated they were interested in doing, given the sales they've had of the game) will most likely be shock-full of it. So, enjoy it while it lasts.
Endings have been actually leaked, and if they're real it's mostly one good one bad per love interest and then I guess whatever you decide to do with the big bad guy. I do fear that they will expand the studio with the money they will get from this (even though allegedly the production of this one cost 19mil already which is insane), and that leads to the hiring of diversity experts and female "developers". Aaron Paul probably won't agree to give his voice to a gay love route though so fingers crossed, he gives the main character so much charisma.AliSFakenamington wrote: ↑ November 11th, 2025, 14:04I'm waiting on the last episodes to be released before deciding if I'm buying it or not in case they pull a bait-and-switch and shove in some last-minute woke in it, but from everything I've seen and heard about it, I'm pleasantly surprised at how little of "tHe MeSsAgE" there seems to be in this game. The character design is repulsive, the dialogue is the cringiest millennial humor garbage, there's a reference to big chungus in the game, ****** youtuber internet celebrity voice actors are in the game and finally you can't even change the story in any meaningful fashion. You get a slightly different ending and slight scene alterations, a Telltale classic I'd say, even has the ****** X will remember this popup.

No, just the original GOG version. Are there only engine improvements in Arx Libertatis or is there something else?

Yeah I can't do this, the animations look worse than ME Andromeda on release. A game that is basically one giant cutscene needs better animation than this, the faces creep me out.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ November 14th, 2025, 17:23

Idk why some people are saying this game isn't "pozzed" when the game is all about diversity. I recall there is a scene when Robert is given a brief tour of the SDN office, Blonde Blazer literally says the SDN is all about "Documentation, dispatching and diversity" as shortly after this she points at an alien who is from another galaxy, and then a **** (apparently from Florida). You also often see people from other ethnicities quite frequently in the office. Also the engineer/technician who promises to fix your suit is this buff Hawaiian dude who has this stupidly thick accent (Hawaiian pidgin, I think?) and is overly chummy/friendly.TND wrote: ↑ November 14th, 2025, 17:21I played Dispatch, probably the worst thing I've ever 'played' in my entire life. The Z-team as well is super diverse (literally). You got discount-Karlach (your "dommy mommy" variant, as all the dickless **** call them), there is Fagbae (born in Afghanistan and who's also got a thick accent)... whose a *** but the game doesn't wave this around in your face. Then you have Invisigal, who also appears to be of mixed ethnicity (not disclosed). Coupé and Prism (both *******), the former talks normally, the other talks like your usual ****** pop star (Robert also jokingly calls her 'Nicki Mirage' and 'Cardi C') and Punch Up (whose Irish). The only other 'white' hero in the team is Waterboy who is portrayed as a skinny pathetic wimp who no one respects (whose whole arc is being more confident and getting the chance to be a hero).
The humour is also pretty bad. "Reddit" is indeed the best description for it. Sex jokes, penis jokes, hurling strings of insults like a teenager would, emasculating Robert from time to time (though this does dial down as the episodes progress and the Z-team actually starts functioning properly) etc. There is an ******* "nice **** bro" joke in episode 1 which made me want to vomit. And for a game that prides itself on having dialogue that flows like movie (because it is pretty much that outside of the dispatch segments), there are egregious lines when Robert meets his old friend 'Chase', they joke, and Chase says "we joke, we laugh, we suppress our trauma". There is another "haha penis funny" scene in the final episode where if you have invisigal, you knock out this goon pissing on a plant and then she tells you tuck his penis and testicles into his pants for his dignity. So if that's your brand of humour, which is most gamers today, I can see people enjoying it.
If you can overlook the 'LA-flavour', the story is simple and effective, but as you said, despite the "choices" the game offers, you often feel like you are being rail-roaded into the narrative the developers want you to experience. If the game actually let you do some based **** I may have been more lenient towards it. Despite all I've said, there is still work and effort put into the game so I'll give the devs that at least, and I can see why people are fawning over it. The best moments in the game are, as expected, the ones that actually carry some sincerity and just let the moment play out. At the very least, Robert is not a pushover and portrayed as a competent leader/dispatcher but not enough in my opinion. Still way too many self-deprecating jokes or "humorous" moments where people talk down to Robert and he just shrugs it off. I won't get into the plot and writing which I also think is quite flawed and the game is carried by its "unique" visual style and dialogue delivery.
As mentioned, the game doesn't "shove" this stuff down your throat but it is clearly there for you to see. It's games like these which are the ones that pave the way for leftist garbage to seep into the roots of any industry. But by now most "gamers" have shown they don't care about politics/diversity as long as it isn't "in your face", so expect this game to sell well and for a Season 2.
It was supposed to be a TV show at the beginning of the project and I treated it as that. Not the worst dating sim ever (cause that was most of the story for some reason)TND wrote: ↑ November 14th, 2025, 17:21I played Dispatch, probably the worst thing I've ever 'played' in my entire life.
