An introduction would be great.
One that I make myself is my understanding. I already have an idea about why I'd be here and how to get into the fight, I'll do it tomorrow.
Bless you, a nat 20 is a helluva way to get introduced.
Yeah, I feared I'd miss and shoot Kal or Felix instead

I think Felix did manage to grab Kal to carry him to safety (I had like 18 on a roll), so if you'd hit either of them, it would've been hilarious.

I thought the game was forever delayed but I managed to follow up and post the next turn in Chapter 2. What a surprising turn of events tonight!

I was thinking that since it's been many moons since we last played, some of you might be a little lost on how to post next. I have put together a few ideas, suggestions and reminders that may occur in the next turn. You're not limited by them or you may not even read them. Be as creative as you'd like!

Graveyard group:

[*] Kal can Turn Undead

[*] Felix can loot the church for holy items or bar the door to protect himself.

[*] Milo can continue attacking from a distance, close distance and/or let Cnut fight

[*] Since Father Altanis is now β€œon the field” with holy tools, he may help fight the undead menace.

Reminder that

[*] Without knowing for sure the origins and source of the undead force, you never know what else may appear

Forest group:

[*] Tillomar spotted the magic puppeteer and alerted the group, he can follow up on that.

[*] The party may continue attacking the slugs

[*] They may rush the puppeteer

[*] They can hold defensive circle or other position

[*] Maybe using the environment with fire or other effect, maneuver in the terrain such as taking point in elevations or looking for and going down holes, using the trees

Reminder that

[*] Zollo may ambush from the dark

[*] Slugs may adapt next round to maybe shield the puppeteer

[*] Something unexpected and explosive may occur! Or not...

@Irenaeus my guess is, people would have a hard time returning to this after a long hiatus. So if you're willing to continue at a healthy speed, I suggest making everyone who hadn't replied in a week into NPCs. When people return, they can get their PCs back.

Excellent suggestion! That's already what I was doing. I'm finishing writing the next post that will probably be posted tonight or tomorrow morning. So, whoever still wants to control their PCs, just post an action on the current game thread. Onwards! To adventure, fame and, hopefully, not death... :wizard:

If I whistle for my dog to do something (ie maybe bite the slug from the rear, cause a distraction that might improve my chance to hit, something random, etc), should I roll a d20 or what?

You should be able to order him around without issues within reason, no need to roll. But the things you offered as exemples might be complicated for a simple dog to follow - tactics stuff. It can attack, guard or flee, or something reasonable. Attacking will cause a distraction, but I'll need to read the rules for distraction, I think they are probably linked to flanking.

do not know that it was Felix’s looking for Mad Orla’s talisman and touching the ground that might have set this grisly event in motion. Or was it?

This cold water column, in erupting, engulfs Stein completely, lifting his body and drenching him to the bone, the fall nearly knocking him senseless as he slams into mud and wet leaves.
That was inhumane. Poor sod probably tasted water for the first time in his life.

Things are looking grim for Stein Von Steiner.

@Irenaeus Unless the Wisdom check effects the blast, I think the combination of the slug hit and the unexpected ice attack may have reduced his health to zeroImage

In the Adventurer Conqueror King System (ACKS), when a PC's HP drops to 0, the character is not instantly dead, but is instead incapacitated (unconscious).

The the speed and quality of the immediate medical attention you receive (healing magic, the skill of the helper, and the time elapsed), which modifies your chance of survival when the critical diagnosis (the Mortal Wounds roll) is finally made.
β–Ί Show Spoiler
You're lucky that the HP dropped to exactly 0, so you roll the 1d20 with +5. The speed treatment will depend on your companions (+2 if treated next round, -3 if treated after combat is finished). No Constitution bonus or penalty.

Good luck on the roll when you're finally treated!

Also, if you want to investigate graves, do it under witness and record. This town answers to the bailiff, I will not be party to sacrilege or an illegal desecration.”
Felix can witness for himself. He can bring a mirror for a second pair of eyes.
@Irenaeus or do we need some paper stamped?

Altanis said that we should investigate graves "under witness and record". Does he expect us to get some specific kind of witness (say, somebody from the guard), get some permission or was it just a figure of speech ("don't rob graves just because, or else!")?

I alteady posted what he said. Now is the time for the party to decide the next action. You should discuss among yourselves If you are unsure. That's the fun of the game imo

What I meant to say (sorry, I was out on the phone all day in family events) was that interpreting the reactions of the NPCs is part of the games' difficulty. What is Altanis trying to say? What was the whole point of the interaction? Those were clues as to how you could act in your next post.
@DemoGraph I get that you like to act with a lot of information, maybe perfect information, but I'm designing the game to be mysterious and the accounts of the NPCs to be unreliable. Hope you're still having fun anyway. Good luck out there!

I think it's unclear for him if it was a mysterious phrase meant to be up to interpretation or if it's just a normal old-timey way of speaking that his character would have no problem understanding
