The best game ever will have ....

Post by NotAI »

.... WHAT?

What is the ONE FEATURE that will save gaming?

What is gaming really missing?

Note 1. Donkey Kong apparently caught up with Red Faction? Turns out even breaking walls can be boring?

Note 2: BG3 arguably fully achieved Choice & Consequence. So that's it. It's been done. What's next: what is the path forward?

Note 3. Something completely different is needed to save gaming? True? False?

Having no woke content would be a good first step to save modern gaming.

Animation speed setting dialing up to lightspeed (openXCOM, Homm3 and Dominions are good in this regard).

Lots of different things to do that are enjoyable instead of a "gameplay loop"
Good games are made with chains, not loops.

Chains are made up of interconnected loops

Just need to steal from the best what works. World design/music from AION, Characters/dialogue/setting from Gothic, unique loot/spells/spellcrafting like Morrowind, coop/music like souls games, skill checks like fallout NV.

I do not like "skill checks"

The only games it's done properly in are in the Ultima Underworld/Ultima VII tradition, where you're actually using character skills(verbs) to interact with the world.

Excellence is not any one thing in particular. It's just executing many things right, and that adds up to excellence. I cannot think of anything super major off of the top of my head.

One neat touch I'd like to see stepped up would be JRPG/Asian level ability animations/cutscenes/presentation but with more reactivity depending upon the context. Kuro no Kiseki 2 when you used your S-craft on the final boss, it was slightly different. Imagine if all possible ultimate attacks could have a slightly different finisher for critical story moments or superbosses like that. Persona 5 animations can be slightly different if the enemy is airborne or knocked down. In Fire Emblem, when you send a unit to duel an enemy officer or general, there can be unique dialogue depending upon the matchup preceding the duel. Etc.

actually I meant invasions but I guess coop cant hurt either more to kill then. Got like 500 hours extra playtime out of dark souls 3 invasions, especially the catacombs were fun with lots of traps. But the pvp system could surely use a better progression system. As long as pvp isnt boring duels and more like hunting its quite fun.

Proper space rpg with a good stories, exploration elements, working economy, meticulously written world, your own ship to traverse space and mod support will make it. Space Rangers 3d basically.
Microsoft/Bethesda/Obsidian got the memo but failed miserably. Three times at that ffs.
