RPGs featuring other adventuring parties
I'm aware of Wizardry 7 which did this to some extent(yet to play), have any other RPGs done it?

Baldurs Gate 1, some of the best encounters in the game.
ToME although theyre mostly trash fights on the overworld.

BG II did it, as well. In the Underdark. Both as your OG party, *and* disguised as Drow.
Just like Yves, I chase tales

This somewhat reminds me of that part in Shaun of the Dead where they run into the doppelgangers.

Trails in the Sky FC, and to the detriment of its sequel, SC. You play as a junior member of the Bracer guild and eventually build a full party of Bracers (Joshua/Estelle/Scherazard/Agate/Zin, plus some civilians), and every now and then you run into another party of Bracers who are also doing stuff (Kurt/Anelace/Grant/Carna). It made the world feel larger, like there were other heroes out there doing stuff offscreen. Unfortunately in SC, you spend the first five chapters of the game accomplishing nothing while the B-team are off finding the bad guys' secret base. That made the first 40 hours of the game feel like a waste of time, and on repeated playthroughs you're just twiddling your thumbs waiting for Grant to come back and tell you where the bad guys are. Other Trails games also have a parties of Bracers or heroes in the background, but they didn't make as much of a contribution to the plot as Kurt's crew did in Sky. Kurt's party in the tournament was also one of the hardest fights on the franchise as they were just as capable as your party.
I suppose the other mercenary corps from Mechwarrior 4 counts. IIRC you help one out in one mission and then later on they come to help you.
In Shadowrun Dragonfall and Hong Kong, you ocassionally run into other parties of Shadowrunners, but IIRC none of them were recurring or really important.

Dungeon Dreams 1/2, the premise of these games is all about there being other adventurer parties doing their thing in the background.
Basic story of these games is you play a pc living out his/her life in a town that has a dungeon in it which attracts adventurers, and you occasionally bump into other parties during events or at the rest floors in between dungeon floor.
You also have a rival adventuring party for drama's sake, complete with smug rival leader.

Nope 0 porn or anything explicit (at most you get high quality cg pics of companions in their swimming gear but by modern rpg standards this is prude af) despite what one might fear. Hell even though they say prominently Dating Sim in the marketing material romance isn't any more of a focus in this game then it is in literally any other rpg: you can romance companions and have a few dating scenes with them but that's about it, hardly enough to advertise it as a unique selling point.rusty_shackleford wrote: β October 6th, 2023, 12:06BlueMemphis wrote: β October 6th, 2023, 11:15Dungeon Dreams 1/2, the premise of these games is all about there being other adventurer parties doing their thing in the background.

It really is just a solid jrpg with adventuring parties and dungeon diving as the central theme.
In Elminage Gothic, you fight dopplegangers of the player's party.
