Game podcasts

Post by Griffin »

Do you guys listen to any gayming podcasts? Only one I have stomached so far is Dos Game Club, the two hosts grew up with DOS games and are at least somewhat familiar with games, but they usually have guests who knows the game they cover very well. They recently covered Ultima Underworld and they had CRPGAddict on as one of the guests, who I have to say sounded kinda normal and didn't have that ******* annoying droning autist voice.

Hmm, the only somewhat gaming related podcasts I listen to are a couple of DnD/tabletop podcasts. As for actual video game stuff, I treat Oneyplays as a podcast. I don't watch the videos but just listen to them shoot the **** while I do something else.
I used to listen to an EFAP rip-off that was mostly about gaming but then the main guy spiritually trooned out and became a V-Tuber. Consequently, there hasn't been an episode of the actual podcast in quite a while.
"Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."

I tend to listen to the eXplorminate podcast sometimes due to my unreasonable addiction to strategy/4X games.

The only two that talk about gaming that I regularly listen to in the car is Resonant Arc, and David V. Stewart.

Resonant Arc (formerly known as Dark Pixel Gaming): two millennials who do comprehensive reviews of RPGs (mainly JRPGs but they've been branching out into doing some Western RPGs like Planescape and Mass Effect). They go into the dev history and talk about behind the scenes information they can get their hands on, and are sometimes even able to interview the devs. Unfortunately they hyperfixate on the writing and don't often critique the other aspects of the games like the encounter design, aesthetics, music, UI, etc. Sadly they used to be Christians but Mike seems to have fallen away, not sure about Cassen.

David V. Stewart. Is a gen Y Christian who covers a variety of topics. World of Warcraft, discusses RPGs and JRPGs, does some movie reviews (he got big for his criticism of The Force Awakens back when everyone was raving about TFA before the TLJ backlash), sometimes metal album record reviews, book reviews, etc. He critics the whole holistic thing of a game/book/movie like the aesthetics, the sound effects, UI, etc, rather than focusing exclusive on the writing like most reviewers do nowadays. Sadly I haven't found anyone else like David. He got shadowbanned from Youtube a few years ago. Also has a blog but he posts more on substack nowadays. Is friends with Brian Niemeier who I have seen some posters here on RPGhq also following, though Brian doesn't really do Youtube and is more of a blog guy (or shows up on a guest of podcasts).

I liked the Games for Windows (magazine? Live?) podcast but that was decades ago at this point.
