Nothing says gaming is dead like playing five year old remakes of twenty year old games.Breathe wrote: ↑ April 15th, 2025, 17:58If I ever play games again it'll be old ones in my backlog. If I play a game made in 2025 it'll be 2030.
Games you are looking forward to in 2025

CyberTaxi: Lunatic Nights.
Not usually my type of game but it caught my eye regardless. Came out the other week but have not tried it yet.

Here's a list of stuff I am genuinely interested in, though I could see why it would appear sarcastic.
Very curious just how much of a train wreck this will be:
Have been looking very hard for a sports game where you play a full season that is both a real game (not necessarily a real sport) and where the objective isn't to accumulate money that is converted into winning:
It's pretty obvious my enjoyment of this will be ruined by ideology of the writers, but it has such a cozy vibe I'm hoping I can ignore that:
For something a bit more traditional, the environmental destruction in this looks great:

I tried the demo for this several months ago, because I thought the concept of managing a superhero team sounded interesting. There was the typical progressivism that's just to be expected (the primary thing that I remember is that all the women are girlbosses), but really it had two main problem:
1) I agree it shows up with a cozy vibe, but the language was definitely over-the-top R-rated. It really created dissonance for me that was hard to get over.
2) The main gameplay is firmly in "mobile-game management sim" territory. I thought it might be relaxing, but instead you are constantly on alert for what the next problem popping up will be. In addition, there's a lot of dialogue that happens while you are doing this management and cognitively you just aren't able to pay attention to it and manage the squad's responses.
Monolith aka Star of Providence is one of the best.Cedric wrote: ↑ September 25th, 2025, 07:00I'm too old to look forward to games. I just learn about them whenever I do. Most games I end up having fun with I never heard of before, like Minishoot' Adventures or The King Is Watching or Animal Well or Star of Providence.
I am looking forward to that one and Chronicles Medieval:GhostShiroyama wrote: ↑ October 9th, 2025, 02:15I was looking forward to Crimson Desert until they pushed it to 2026 :[

On the other hand, though I'll give you that the publisher, Ubisoft, somehow made the Prince of Persia and the elite warriors of Persia black, and some of them women. One has dreadlocks and red hair.
Here's a friendly reminder that the word Iran (Persia) comes from "Airyanem Vaejah" - "expanse of the Aryans."
It's hard to look forward to games when Marxists have made a sport out of skin-suiting everything and so many games just don't pan out. Like normally I'd look forward to a new Need for Speed game, but how can I after NFS: Unbound when I know I already have NFS games better than any future one that will come out? Basically, almost every franchise you liked over the years is probably garbage now. Or they just stop making the games (Wipeout, Ridge Racer, Panzer Dragoon, etc). I know the (unannounced) Ace Combat 8 will probably deliver, but just about everything else is on a wait and see basis. I'd be all-in on all of the Sega franchise reboots but I'm not sure the quality will be there. Golden Axe was looking pretty questionable.
I've had my eye on this for a while but who knows if these devs can deliver or not:

ehh
Probably other stuff I've forgotten.
Swordhaven was the only non-disappointment and it's still in early access. Don't know if Mystic Land will make it out in 2025.

Obligatory statistical outlier.
As for the rest, we shall refer to this phenomenon as the "rusty touch" going forward.

Was pretty fun to play. Good game to recommend.
Woke but still played it, had to buy it because the bugs were too severe and no one uploaded the updates.
Looked interesting but might buy it later
Fun game. Also Alma is a cute.
Very fun game. Recommend it
Hard as ****. Korean soulslops are bordering on unfair.
**** localization, I will wait for a fan translation.
Is a great game apparently, will get it some day
Still looking forward to it.
Still looking forward to it.
Still looking forward to it.
Meh, passing on this.
Still looking forward to it.
Metroid Prime 4 > Still looking forward to it.
Toxic Commando > Still looking forward to it.
Those are only some of the more well-known games.
KCD2 is still woke but now the performance shits the bed too, as well as being buggy as **** AFTER release.
Monster Hunter Wilds was fun but the performance and graphics are so ****, it is a pain.
Suikoden is great
Khazan great
Hundred Line still woke
Tempest Rising is great
looking forward to Crimson Desert
Cronos is a polack woke **** game.
DOOM was fine, nothing to write home about.
Nightreign was ok, but it got stale fast
Of Ash and Steel is a game I still look forward to.
MP4 looks great
Toxic Commando is woke and full of ugly girlbosses

What is woke about it?
I was a tad interested when I saw it played a bit like RE4.

The developer justified their choice of a female protagonist by saying that "having a male character is so boring"gerey wrote: ↑ October 9th, 2025, 10:46What is woke about it?

Atmosphere is great, I like the weighty feel to the character walking through the environment. Thought it might be Dead Space but different setting but combat felt very lackluster and designed to annoy you. You need 5-6 shots to kill a standard enemy when you do not have a lot of ammo and melee is basically ignored by enemies, and shooting at limbs does not do anything nor do they really react to shots. Plus sometimes the game flat out pretends that you did not hit the enemy even though you see that it hit.

Edit: oh, I just saw gerey's post. Grim...
The real tragedy is that 1800 is probably the best Anno game in terms of gameplay.
Tbh at this point not looking forward to anything. It's all gay slop until proven otherwise. I guess the closest would be somewhat looking forward to a full fidelity F-15C module in DCS. That's about it.
Octopath Traveler 0
Yakuza 3 Kiwami
Kai no Kiseki 2
Trails SC remake
**** I can't read, most of these aren't 2025

Kai no Kiseki/Trails Beyond the Horizon: I already know that nothing meaningfully happens in it, but at least this time it will feature more characters that I like (Rean, Rufus, Bergard), and have more Marchen Garten levels to progress through on the hardest difficulty.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter (SC Remake): it's more Trails. Playable Mueller (for final dungeon only).
Shiro e no Michishirube: the sequel to Monochrome Mobius and possibly the Utawarerumono sequel duology. I was initially excited to finally explore the fantasy India that was only briefly glimpsed in MM, but now with the announcement of characters from the sequel duology, I don't know what Aquaplus is doing anymore. Hope they improve the visual quality and the battle design from MM. Would also be neat if they stepped up their soundtrack game. There were over 100 tracks but I only remembered 4 of them.
Octopath Traveler 0: This is a box purchase version of the current CotC gacha game. I like the 2D illustrations of the gacha game, and I like the humongous character rosters of gacha games, and I like that this one will let you form an 8 man party of your favorite characters, but I won't have to put up with the gacha game progression or enemy tuning that often makes these games not satisfying to progress through like traditional box purchase RPGs.
World of Warcraft - Midnight: two of the zones look like cool high fantasy places (the underground rootlands zone, and then the zany space fantasy void wasteland). The main attraction here is the housing, which will hopefully add more longevity to the game.
The next Final Fantasy XIV 7.0 expansion, but with the time between patches having grown from 3 months to 4 months to now 5 months, it looks like 7.0 might not come out until 2027 and will be the first expansion to take three years to come out after the last.
Honkai Nexus Anima, but I have been hearing weird things about it from the beta testers. Apparently despite presenting itself as a saacharine game about having fun with your Pokemon, it is yet another ultra plot heavy super serious storyline about how the player character in his past life was actually a dark lord who betrayed everyone and sundered the universe and now there are death squads after him and stuff.
1404 was the most enjoyable for me. Roman was a good time period to pick. Would be cool to plan aqueducts and such.gerey wrote: ↑ October 9th, 2025, 11:18The real tragedy is that 1800 is probably the best Anno game in terms of gameplay.
