Ties should result in double-feature month where you play two games.

Mission accomplished! This was the most active AG poll since last October. Well-played to @Tweed and others, who scraped up a huge number of votes on short notice. I'll be stepping away from vote trading and other shenanigans once I pay back @logincrash next month, but I hope others will continue to make things interesting one way or another.

I think people should get a number of votes equal to their post counts. They can't be divided up.

This sounds good, what's the downside?

So, for those who've actually played Underrail before, any tips? Any skills/stats/feats not worth investing in?

I see there are a few themes in the character portraits reminiscent of faction colors and looks, any clues or info on those?

UnderRail

Description
Underrail is an old school isometric turn-based RPG set in a distant future, when the life on the Earth’s surface has long since been made impossible and the remnants of humanity now dwell in the Underrail, a vast system of metro station-states that, it seems, are the last bastions of a fading race.

The player takes control of one of the denizens of such a station-state whose life is about to become all that much more interesting and dangerous, as our protagonist is caught midst the conflicting factions of Underrail as they violently struggle to survive in the harsh underground environment.

Normally I'd say this is cheating, but you can easily create a build that doesn't work on normal difficulty and requires a restart, so yes you probably should look up a build in advance.

Play on normal difficulty - hard and dominating require you to metagame and create powerful builds using prior knowledge of game's mechanics, while on normal the game can be finished without looking anything up.

Underrail punishes you for spreading stats, so before you start you should come up with some kind of simple plan on what type of character you want to make (i.e. a tanky guy wearing armor, a sneaky guy with a crossbow, psyker who blasts enemies with telekinesis, rogueish sniper who can hack computers, etc). If you try to cover too many fields at the same time, you're going to end up with an unfocused and unoptimized build.

Tanky characters are the easiest, but less fun to play. Sneaky characters are more interesting, but require some prior knowledge of game's mechanics.

Regardless of what type of character you want to play as, here's a couple of advices:
1) always max out your main offensive skill (guns, crossbows, melee). Throwing cannot be your main offensive skill, but you can invest like 30 skillpoints into it to get access to a very good feat 'Grenadier');
2) don't bother with dodge or evasion if you plan to wear armor. And you should be wearing armor, since glass cannon/dodge & evasion is an unreliable way of playing;
3) don't bother with persuasion, the game is heavily combat-focused and you cannot avoid most of the fights. Dialogue skills exist mostly to get some extra lore and to get better items at stores;
4) on your first playthrough you may stumble upon the various difficulty roadblocks due to not being able to tackle certain encounters. You can still bruteforce them using caltrops, beartraps, grenades, stimpaks, and other supplemental items;
5) buy Adrenaline recipe, it's one of the most useful consumables in the game. Once you get the recipe, pump the skills needed to craft it;
6) crafting in this game is really fun (one of the most fun crafting systems in RPGs in my opinion, on par with Arcanum), but also requires a hefty stat investment. Check the in-game recipes while playing to see if there's anything worth your while.
7) in addition to the difficulty modes, there are also two XP modes in the game - classic (killing monsters yields experience) and oddity (you can only level up by acquiring experience from doing quests and finding secrets). Oddity mode is very limiting (it prevents farming) and sort-of metagamey (you can level up faster if you know how to beeline to the hidden oddities). Classic feels more natural, and it's also a lot more freeform as it lets you farm a bit of xp. Regardless of which mode you pick, you will likely have the same level of power during the same stages of the game (i finished the game using both, and didn't notice any big differences in power progression).

not on normal, no. My first playthrough was on Normal, I struggled a lot due to having a very unoptimized build (i did not look anything up before starting), but still managed to finish the game. On hard and dominating difficulties - yeah, you can totally get yourself softlocked.

The game has one build check, it's called Depot A. Depot A is the final tutorial mission - if you manage to beat it, then you are equipped to beat the rest of game. If not, well, time for a restart.

Depot A is the acid test for all builds, if you can't get past or struggle heavily with Depot A, then you probably can't finish the game.
