Well if at least the dialogue stays intact it might find some new fans which didnt bother yet to get the original working on a modern OS. But I guess it will get the deadspace treatment when it comes to remasters just that the graphics barely improved.
Hard to imagine anyone not interested enough to play the original looking at... this... and thinking, "Yeah, this looks worth trying."

Deus Ex runs fine and has QoL improvement mods all over the place. No need to fret about an "official" remaster. I just ignore the 40 GB slop and pretend it doesn't exist.

Edit : also, at this point, "official" isn't worth ****. It's just whatever asset mill owns the "rights" at the time. Modders like the lads here at RPGHQ are worth over 20,000x the value of any "big name publisher".

Always chimp out about remasters like this, we can prove this has long-term negative downstream effects.

e.g., we're still recovering from beamshit's infinity engine game 'remasters', it crushed interest in GemRB and set it back years. Major reason it still has a lot of interest is they couldn't remaster IWD2

The only good remake that I have heard of recently is System Shock.
I played the remake and it felt like the original except without all the jank.

Can't speak to System Shock 2. Wasn't a fan of the original and have no desire to play the remake.

I have hope for the Gothic remake. We'll see.

The only other remakes I'm looking forward to are Skywind and Skyblivion.
The second of which is gonna mog the official remake HARD.

Only problem I had with the remake was the **** shite they added into a few of the audio logs. The original game is very much a product of its time and hard to play if you never did in the 90's, compared to other games like turned based RPGs. I'm glad they barely touched the second one's gameplay though, it's a more fleshed out experience.

Skyblivion looks great aside from some unfortunate choices for the class art. I came into contact with a guy involved with the project a while back and he's been extremely reassuring regarding misgivings about the timeline. Everything he's mentioned has panned out the way he suggested it would and the only thing I'm mildly trepidatious about is some of the changes to dungeons but that could be an improvement as Oblivion dungeons are Oblivion dungeons.

I don't have quite as high expectations for Skywind. Every one of their showcases features a ****** or is otherwise dragging its feet. OpenMW gives me my fix. I think the game is timeless but that's just me.

I think they also race swapped some of the portraits in the audio logs. Otherwise a fantastic remake.

It looks so amateur, this is something that you'd see in a quality HD mod pack people would praise because it was being made by modders and distributed for free.

Also, the lighting feels very 'harsh', overly so due to a seemingly very sharp light falloff. It completely changes the tone of many of the screenshots.

One of the problems in Oblivion was the samey-sameness of the dungeons.
It turns out that, for most of the development period, the ******* at Bethesda had ONE GUY doing them all.
And he said that he was constantly waiting for art assets he asked for like new area tiles, and that he was constantly fighting the more limited scripting language than Morrowind's through most of the dev cycle.
It seems that Todd Howard poured 10x the development into the quest system, for which the dungeon guy was tasked to make them their dungeons as a priority and on demand.

Most of the major guys either started at Skyblivion or moved over to it because of some ******* in Skywind.
It is likely that they will move to Skywind once Skyblivion is out and working, though I expect many will remain for a time working on Shivering Isles.

You are right to be concerned of a small ****** infestation. There are a number of female VA roles for which some ****** has been cast.
With the new AI voice tech, it will be relatively easy to remove the degenerate freaks.

I can't imagine a reason to play skywind, why would someone want to play morrowind in the skyrim engine?

Give me MorrowRim.

Still haven't played the original, it's been in my backlog for years now.

I'm not touching any remakes/remasters because you just know they'll censor stuff from the original.
