9/9 - Dying Light: The Beast

Post by Shillitron »

Every user is required to make one thread today. Ideally about an RPG or RPG related topic you're interested in, but it's up to you. @Turtle Adventurer

I was gonna make this in the RPG Section but they aren't even pretending anymore.

I generally used to like Dying Light, especially the first one and I was excited for the second one (although was pretty disappointed).. but this game looks like a steaming pile of **** so far.. Anyone know anything about this? I generally avoid all the Multiplayer Skins / DLC / Money grab slop from this company so I dunno if this is the third in the series or some Fortnite rip off.

Watching a Let's play right now - will report back my findings.

When is this coming out again? I can report back on how it is since I had the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2 and they scrapped the second story addon and gave everyone who bought the edition, The Beast instead

Drops in a week or two I think.

I don't care about their fake RPG mechanics, Just curious if the game is even good as a parkour zombie game with some vague concept of a story. The gameplay videos look washed out and really bad.

EDIT

I literally heard NOTHING about this game. I only know it exists from browsing the steam store. :scratch-pipe:

This is what the second game should have been, but... the second game we did get was really, REALLY bad and this was originally going to be DLC for it. I don't have high hopes.

When played DL2 I had a feeling that devs almost made a good game with a strong backbone but then got replaced by incompetent morons who ruined it. Will see how this one turns out in a year or two after an influx of patches.

Alright, played the first few minutes of it on xbox.
Crane is pretty cool, wasn't pussified, in combat he is very brutal and he grunts and screams a lot. Characters seem to look good. Olivia looks like an actual woman. Runs perfect. Combat is somewhat more challenging until you go rage mode. Will say more later

I enjoyed the first game. Very smooth in play and while the console design was "apparent", it was tolerable enough where the game still felt ok on the play and UI side.

Second one I just couldn't get past the intro, and all the crap I read about the woke garbage being amped up in it bugged me, so I skipped it. Is there any modding community for this where crap can be changed?

I didn't know about the 3rd one... honestly though... I have "zero" expectation that it will be anything other than complete garbage on all fronts.

Though... it has been quite a while since I played the first one and I haven't tried it out on my triple screen setup, so I may toy with that in the future.

It is actually a pretty intense game at times, especially when it becomes dark and and those super fast zombies come out chasing you to which have this uncanny habit of staying right on your tail no matter how flipping fast your run and jump from buildings. First time I ran into one I actually had that tingly feeling of my hairs standing up, it was pretty cool.

Game is pretty fun multiplayer as well. Some of the event dungeons are designed around it.

Very first mission in the game
CHARNAME: I'm looking for the sheriff. Where is he?

Dying Light 2 had a duo of annoying muff divers with a *** flag in their room, I had no hopes for this and my despair proved right yet again.

I'm convinced they have no idea what made Dying Light a success and they have no inspiration to create anything new to replicate the first game hype.

The story felt like it was gutted heavily during development. Most quests and characters are boring too. But the city itself is very well made. Regarding mods I used one to swap main heroine with different model.

The graphics don't look as good as the trailer made them out to be. They look dated and cartoony as well from what I can tell.

Not like I paid for the game. I got the ultimate edition of dying light 2 back then for 50 bucks or so and they gave the beast to all owners of that edition

Did the food poisoning make you go ****** or something? They promised two story dlcs but scrapped the second one and made it a standalone game.

And this story DLC is like:

" Remember guys when by some miracles we did a game that did not suck? Yeah me too, Crane is back, GRE bad, it's Dying Light 1 again. PLZZZZ BUY OUR GAME *wink* *wink*"

Absolutely creatively bankrupt.

I think his point was:

> I didn't pay for the game
> I bought the uber-zombie-super-giga-platinum edition and got this game "for free"

I care more about this though:

You mentioned combat is alright and crane isn't a *****. How are the graphics / lighting and the story? Is it similar at all to the first / second game or is it more "kill zombo and find random ****" style gameplay?

From the little bit I've played, the story is all about the mechanic of putting points into your (incredibly uninspired and boring) skill tree. It's all they talk about.

Well, loaded up DL 1 again, Triple Screen setup and FoV is well done, no real issues, no need to tweak.

I forgot how fun this game is to play in terms of mechanics and feel. I think I am going to try going through them all slowly... though I might discard it if I run into too much ******** woke in DL2-3.

Most likely due to the fact that the expansion is contractually obligated to have a PS4/Xbox One port so they have to downscale.
