Next month is spooky month, and since half of you voted for shite slop to suffer through, I guess you masochists want pain. I nominate Pathologic 2 for October. If we're going to suffer, at least we'll suffer from a good game this time.
Pathologicpill me. I heard 2 is like a remake of the first game or something? Would it be appropriate for them to share a badge?

2 is a remake/remaster of the first game. It only has the Haruspex route, and is missing the Bachelor (being remade in the third game) and the Changeling.

The first is a very clunky, broken, buggy game yet still a great experience, but despite this you have to play all three routes to get the full picture and it's a 150 hour game. The 2nd gives you a full experience for less than half the time, is barely buggy (in my playthroughs at least) and more modern (at a benefit despite a few detrimental changes). I dinnae think that 150 hours for a single month was appropriate, and the 2nd makes you suffer MUCH more than the first so it worked out.

I cannae recommend the first game at all to most people when the second exists and the third is coming out soon. Even with the "cut" content, it's so much more than the first could ever hope to be. Ice Pick Lodge naming it Patholgic 2 was a mistake (should have been name Pathologic Redux), so you could have it share a badge but if you play ONLY the first game you are very much missing out, as opposed to the inverse.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the game has nudity in it. It can be turned off if you're an english prude.

Pathologic 1 has 3 routes and it will be not very convenient for JAG because we have a problem of determining which route to count as the end of the game. Pathologic 2 is more straightforward with it as there's only 1 route and a definite ending. If you're worried about plot continuity, Pathologic 2 is is not a plot continuation of the first game. I personally wouldn't call Pathologic an RPG though.

I'd say it's not a very correct definition. It's more of a re-imagining. The location, characters, plot details and gameplay elements, while having similarities to the first game, are revisioned in Pathologic 2.

It may be clunky but I don't remember that many bugs.

I'd enjoyed it more if it weren't crashing all the time and sometimes even freezing my PC.
Atmosphere was good. Soundtrack was solid. Christopher as a Protagonist was cool and refreshing to see a guy go through with his revenge and feel good about it.

CornCake - Pathologic 2

My stance is that bad combat doesn't make something an RPG. Darksiders has at least as many RPG elements as other games that have been selected.

I don't think the developers have ever marketed it as an RPG

@rusty_shackleford will decide if Darksiders is an RPG because it's his website and his prestige rides on whether or not it gets a publicly displayed badge :dice2:

What I'm most surprised by is how it wasn't marketed as anything. All the game boxes, there's nothing indicative of what it even is.
https://www.mobygames.com/game/45562/darksiders/covers/
The front/back could be interpreted as near any genre with combat and exploration.
David Adams: I think Darksiders is fairly unique, in that you can’t find the same style of gameplay from any other game. It may bear similarities to other games, but the experience itself is quite different – a combination of combat, puzzles, exploration, character advancement, light RPG elements, seamless world, etc.

The reason I became more involved with the AG (creating pins, vote trading, etc) was because I thought the tie last October was deeply shameful. I also hoped stirring some nominations drama would increase the number of people participating (more votes = less likely to be a tie) but that was easier when voting required a post in the thread first.

I nominated Darksiders because it's a great game that has a lot of elements people have been voting for recently but with better combat. If it doesn't win, that's fine. My objective was complete when the AG applied a tie-breaking mechanism.

Darksiders 2 was similar to Darksiders 1.

Did well:
-New character with slightly different combat style that was at least as cool as the first protagonist.
-Additional traversal abilities inspired by the Prince of Persia games of that time.

Failures:
-Story is a prequel. They went through with a plan to make 4 games introducing each of the protagonists and expected people to be interested long enough to wait for game 5 to be the conclusion of the first game's cliffhanger. Somehow this plan survived the studio closure and IP sale after Darksiders 2. (The upcoming Darksiders 4 is actually the 5th game since they introduced one of the characters in Darksiders Genesis, which was a different genre.)
-Showered in marginally different equipment, interrupting game flow.

Can we publicly flog the "people" who voted for raven's cry and dinnae play it? I feel like voting for shite and then laughing as others suffer through it deserves a flogging. @Finarfin the exception of course as he stands by his shite.
