Personally, I quite like playing Uno and Jenga. With Uno, it is very easy to easy grab people who have never played Uno before and put them in. With Poker or Mahjong, there is the barrier of entry where they have to have already extensively studied and memorized the winning suites/combinations beforehand, or you have to be constantly stopping the game to read through the rulesbook... just not good for something that is supposed to be light and casual.

With Jenga, you have the visual and tangible element of there being an actual tower and blocks right in front of you. The anxiety of seeing it lean over. It is however frustrating if you are playing in a small room or a tight space and people are bumping into tables and influencing the tower.

I love playing Monopoly. I buy up all the properties I can and then never trade them. For some reason it makes people really angry and they never want to play with me again.

Done

EDIT: looks like updating the poll has once again reset the votes. :(

I don't play any of the games on that list because I find most of them boring; in the case of chess, I find it interesting, but I don't want to put in the effort to git gud, so I don't play. Theme (violence) is important to me and themeless abstract games are almost as boring to me as economics eurogames with victory points. If I were invited to play one of those on a social occasion, I wouldn't say no, but I would never pick them myself.

My favorite board game is BattleCON. It models a 2d fighting game on a linear grid using a WEGO turn system in which each player must secretly choose a maneuver + style pair from his available pool each turn and then the turn is played out according to their choices. The chosen pair is removed from play for a couple rounds afterward, so there's pressure not to waste a strong combination. There are dozens of characters with their own move pools, so it stays fresh. It's not exactly a game for casual play, but I don't care about casual play, so I just resign myself to suffering whatever everyone else wants to play at non-enthusiast gatherings and break it out for gamer friends when I have the chance.

I don't like board games. I have to manually do all the boring things video games do for me.

Chess is great. I'm not very good at it, but I love playing it with my niece.
Mafia (and any of its kind, like Werewolf) is a fun social game. You hone both your reasoning and persuasion skills.
Uno is amazing because it's easy and very competitive and can go on for hours.

I tried to download the YouTube video to avoid the gay ******* age restriction but it's been too fiddly and now I'm just frustrated. Just click the ******* Watch on YouTube link.

I like Citadels - it's not too easy and not too hard and has a good variability. Some games with a classical card deck are also good for a casual evening.
With a more advanced company something like Scythe is better though :axe:

Other than the two I voted for, my third pick is beer pong. Initially I thought very little of the game, but after being invited to some parties where I knew absolutely no one and as you guys can guess from my posts, I'm not a small talk kind of guy. So anytime beer pong went underway I was there for most of the night. It's a good excuse to ignore everyone and hang out with all the lads who share your autistic obsession at nailing half filled plastic cups with ping pong balls.

As mentioned already, UNO is a certified classic. Used to play it a lot when I was a kid on the long hauls between custody exchanges and other travels. Not so much these days, but I wouldn't turn down a game if offered. Honestly, I'll play anything usually, preferably with alcohol.

With the lads, stuff like poker or uno are always a staple, can't go wrong, otherwise various other drunken party games with a deck of cards

Often liked playing deception/social games as well. Cards against humanity was a meme for a while, but some of the more crude or dated humour gets a bit stale after a while. There was a niche deception one we played called 'Secret Hitler' where people gotta try to figure out who's Hitler and people vote each other out and ****.

Board game wise there was this one called 'Betrayal at House on the Hill', it's pretty neat but a big time commitment so we never really played it much. **** was basically a mini DnD campaign in a haunted house, you go around discovering rooms which are laid out randomly, and there would be a monster reveal at a certain point with all sorts of unique mechanics tied to it. Usually someone ends up becoming the monster so it turns into a PvP game of sorts, where everyone's trying to do some ritual or escape from it or what have you

I play a lot of Uno and Domino with my kid — among other board and card games — despite them not being my favorites.
I loved playing Poker with my friends in high school and college and work buddies up until the mid 2000s, but havent really played it for money (not much) since.
Chess is a game I learned the basics as a kid with my dad but was always the Nerd game (hello Todd) that nobody wanted to play, and I only got into it in the C00fdemics after following Agadmator and other youtube chess channels. I kinda suck (around 1000+ on chess.com) but that's ok because I don't have the time for really learning, practicing puzzles and memorizing openings, but I'm really good in blitz/bullet. I played a lot of the Age of Empires games and Starcraft 2 (and some MOBAs) so even in middle age I have reflexes most online chess players don't have — there was a moment something like 30% of my wins were timeouts.
Voted battleship last, I used to play with cousins as a kid so I have fond nostalgia.
Too many good games in the list, thank you for putting it up so it sparked my memory and led me to reminiscence and think about my current routine (playing decent games with my kid/playing chess as passtime). Again, many good games there, particularly with you have brothers, cousins, cool friends to play with irl.

Chess, Poker and DnD 3.5e.
Chess - I may not be the best player, but I enjoy exercising my brain and strategic thinking. Nice and chill.
Poker - classic, partially game of numbers, partially game of deception and reading other players.
DnD 3.5e - it's tabletop, so it qualifies? Love me some crunchy ttrpg.
Bonus: Blackjack - simple and fun for when you don't really want to think too hard.
I like sugar, and I like tea.

Cthulhu Realms. Also Glory to Rome, Race for the Galaxy (original + maybe 1st expansion) and Chudyk's Innovation (it's pretty hard).
All small and combo-heavy.

Brother and I, with cousins and family friends always have a game of Monopoly going every other weekend or so when we can. 'Other' would be Boss Monster and the odd time UNO. Some MTG when they feel like playing OG 60 card decks. I only play 60, none of that 'commander 100 card bs'. The 'deals' and intensity of the monopoly games that go on is hilarious.

Coop card games like Lord of the Rings The Card Game and deck-building card games (like the
Legendary games) are my favorites. Big plus that you can play them solo if I want to game and none available.
As for non-coop games (when I want to beat someone) backgammon and Star Realms are my favorites. Big plus both are easy to setup and to pack it up when done.

Poker or fast paced card games. Dunno what are they called in English. The most prominent one is "Durak" ("The Fool").

I voted Mafia in lieu of the Werewolves of Millers Hollow, I really love that game but it's rare to get enough people to play it properly (even more at my age). I guess it's one of the reasons I appreciate every second when I have the occasion to play it.
Then Uno is always a solid choice. And Poker is also simple and fun.

I love mental/social games where you have to bluff and manipulate others while trying to get through their own lies. I played the Imposteur recently which was like that (the Impostor in English I guess?)

I have been playing with a forum mafia group for 10 years if you want to check it out. We used to have 25 to 30 players per game with 72 pages or 1,000+ posts in a game thread over a two week game period, but now we are down to about half that. Crazy powers like people coming back from the dead, zombie cults that infect and convert other players into the zombie team, psychics that can ask the dead thread questions, etc.

Sounds fun but I try to stick to as few forum games as possible or else I drop them all, and right know the only one I play is Iren's PbP

We have recently tried Codenames. They practically require playing 2*2, but are pretty decent.

I don't play any, because that'd require having actual friends, and I have no such friends as everyone I knew is gone and there is only ice cream.
