RPGs with the best troves

Post by maidenhaver IV »

Multi-tiered dungeons like The Glow that are hyped to be difficult, but also imply a windfall of resources for clearing. I don't include all dungeons as troves, because many are supposed to be bases or jails. Abandoned locations, like Black Mountain Clan and Bunker 317, are examples of troves. Ideally, troves require multiple trips to sell of loot or to unlock deeper levels.

I seem to remember finding a very high quantity of good and useful loot in Firkraag's dungeon in BG2. Defeating a dragon by casting Chromatic Orb remains a favorite memory.

I did that as a test. It's actually a bad tactic in the base game unmodded.
It will randomly disintegrate items as well as the target, including the two uniques like the dragonhide and the holy sword.
I lost them both. Then I re-fought it fairly and it dropped all three of the definite treasures (the third is a cloak that you can get at one other location, at least.
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.
Reject your retarded-wing political programming and learn to think.
If you can.

One that left me disappointed was IWD's Severed Hand. It was pretty, but the best loot was in the vendor, instead of spread about the ruins. It should have been a labyrinth, not a stronghold.

The Glow is Fallout's take on the Dragon Lair, ZAX playing the part of dragon. I like dragon lairs.

The Glow was kind of pointless. Waltz in, loot it completely, leave.

Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen's Bitter Black Isle was quite a good 'trove' by your definition, in my opinion.

Its been abandonned and irradiated, you go for a simple errand and might choose not to go any further. A good trove is going to be quieter than a stronghold, but could have environmental hazards or traps/security for your rogue to play with.

Dead State had apartment buildings with ridiculous amounts of loot. You could easily spend over an hour repeatedly heading out to one and hauling back items after clearing it. It was actually pretty annoying.

That's a fair point.

I guess this is why you need to differentiate trash, with actual items of value. A lot of games have basic, and uninspired money systems that either make everything worth taking to convert into Gold, or things that are just garbage with no purpose.

Pretty much every item in DS contributes to your ever-depleting survival resources required to keep playing. It's definitely optimal to make these trips.
